    The Piano Tutor

    (21 reviews)

For over 20 years I have been a private teacher in piano, voice and music theory to students of all ages and levels. I am a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in piano performance and the Royal Academy of Music in London in piano teaching. As a choral and orchestral conductor in Toronto and Montreal, I have conducted over 100 works with professional orchestras including 23 performances of Handel's MESSIAH. In Toronto, Barry Snyder of the Artist Faculty at the Eastman School of Music, performed three concertos under my direction. Working with a high school and college choir in Toronto, we did many performances of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. My vocal students in the Rochester area have had solo parts at Geva Theatre, McQuaid High School, and Pittsford Musicals. In October 2016, one of my former vocal students was the lead in the production of SWEENEY TODD at Brighton High School. My teaching style aims to develop the students talent into the best talent he or she can be. Working with the student and or parent, we can reschedule lessons if there is a school event or personal conflict. Success is to enjoy the lessons, and see improvements while receiving constant encouragement and support from the tutor. My commitment is to give ..... the student receives. The development of the talent is my enjoyment!

    Karen Bloch Piano Studio

    (9 reviews)

Hello aspiring pianist! Thank you for stopping here. How do you know I am the teacher for you? I have two degrees in music- Oberlin Conservatory of Music- bachelor of music in piano performance, and Eastman School of Music, master of music in music education. This is your guarantee that my training has been of the highest caliber. My lessons are taught in a very individualized way. There are as many different kinds of students as there are people. 30+ years of experience have taught me to listen not only to your music but also to listen to your needs and goals. Growth is inevitable when you are the focus. My home studio is large and bright and you will have your lessons on my 6'6" grand piano. There are loads of references available. I currently have a class of approximately 50 students ranging in age from 5-72. I have a special place in my heart for the adult student. Some of you always wanted to play but never had the chance, some played as a child and took a long break while taking care of life's necessities, some of you have played for a long time and just feel the need for a coach. One thing you all have in common- you know the tremendous value of playing an instrument and learning the musical language. Your time spent with music enriches your soul and sharpens your mind. I love music, I love the piano, and I love my students. I get to know each individual and seek to uncover where the most joy for them in music will be.

    Carmen Spada

    (8 reviews)

My experience performing and composing for a wide range of musical styles has informed me in ways that many musicians are not, due to their limited abilities and stylistic preferences. My foundation in jazz studies has proved to be the source which has facilitated my ease at assimilating other musical styles as well as sustained my career as a professional musician. I am also desired due to my extensive background in composition, harmony and songwriting and many students find that they can study multiple topics with me instead of seeking out new teachers for each additional topic they choose to study. Well, I love music!!! and everything about music....so that makes talking and teaching about it even better! I also love seeing students reactions to materials and topics that they've never heard of, or used before. Usually, there is the "light bulb effect", when they realize that these items or tools are the exact things they need to achieve a certain sound, or that they've heard something for a long time and have never been able to identify it, etc....Once that happens, then they take that information and make it their own and return with their approach to the music. Their approach informs me in a way that I may not have thought of, and so, having students is a reciprocal learning experience.

    Piano Studio Heather O'Donnell

    (6 reviews)

I've been playing the piano for over 35 years, teaching it for over 20 years, and working with rehabilitation for the past 6 years. I approach each teaching situation with a strong commitment, high professionalism, and deep care for each student. I also understand that any given teaching situation is not a one-way street. I expect students to bring their commitment to learning, dedication to the music, intelligence, emotional depth, and humor to lessons as well.

    Piano Music with Gena

    (3 reviews)

I teach jazz and classical. I try to be the teacher that I would have wanted as a student the one who listened to me to let me learn what I wanted, not what she wanted! I do make sure the students have a solid foundation to build on while learning these fun things. I love sharing music with others. I love working in a field where I make a difference. I love helping people reach their dreams.

  • Wheatley Music Studio

    (16 reviews)

Maestro Michael Wheatley teaches private lessons on piano, violin and orchestral conducting. Michael teaches from two professional studios, offers classes dedicated to understanding the competition and audition process, and is developing a youth orchestra for the DC area. He specializes in working with young adults and accepts students ages 8 and up. Michael brings humor and great professionalism to his students; lessons follow a lively "work hard, play hard" ethic. While his focus is on teaching piano and violin lessons specifically, he takes a more holistic approach to music than is commonly found in many studios. Of course, all study begins with an emphasis on healthy posture and physical technique, allowing for the possibility of a lifetime of enjoyment in the performance of music of all styles. However, you will find that he is also very focused on music as a communicative art. Music is meant to express and evoke emotions in both the performer and the listener. Thus, his students are taught by musicians who are not only skilled teachers, but also very active and experienced concert performers.

  • Maxfield Music

    (15 reviews)

Maxfield Music, founded in 2015 by Kristen Maxfield, is an integrative music school in Fairport, NY, located just outside the city of Rochester and is adjacent to the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. Maxfield Music offers individual and group lessons in Voice, Piano, Basic Musicianship (Theory), Sight Singing, Ear Training, and Songwriting and in a variety of genres including, but not limited to, Jazz, R&B, Classical, Broadway, Country and Pop. We also offer Networking Opportunities, Master Classes, Workshops and other events with world-renowned producers, songwriters and musicians within all genres of the music business. Many people aren't provided the opportunity to really #raisethelevel within themselves musically. I feel it is my calling as a teacher to help each student achieve that goal. I am blessed to have receivd so many students of all ages and levels of ability, and to see the enthusiasm and confidence grow in a student. It is the best reward to all the hard work I do as a teacher. The relationships formed and fostered between the students, their families and myself, and the student and I, is such a blessing and teaches me so much more about who I am as a teacher and artist, as well as what my full potential is. I love each and every one of them!!!!
