I took lessons with Diana several years ago starting at age 11 and up until I went to college. I stayed with her as my only piano teacher for about 7 years. Diana helped me develop a love for classical music and for playing with sensitivity. She chose music for me from a great variety of classical composers which provided me a well-rounded exposure to different musical sensibilities, while also considering my own preferences and strengths. Diana has a serious yet gentle demeanor. She respectfully and insightfully guided me through technical aspects of playing as well as how to adjust my physical movement to avoid strain and help with fluidity. She helped me understand how to interpret and execute pieces with an expressive quality of sound. Sometimes we would practice duets together and I remember the dynamic feeling of the music flowing through our hands like electricity. By the time I left for college, I was working on several Chopin pieces. Though I never intended to pursue music professionally, learning piano with Diana is something that instilled my world with depth and meaning, and has contributed in subtle ways to my other pursuits - visual art and writing. For me, playing piano helps me express something that no other art can do in quite the same way (as all arts are different), and it has remained important to me even through the many years when I seldom had access to a piano. I'm happy to say that I am finally in the position to own my own piano and it will be arriving in my home today. I am so excited to delve into a renewed personal practice and into the world of music again!

I took piano lessons from Diana Loberant for about ten years (ages 8-18), and I can unequivocally recommend her services. Ms. Loberant is not only an effective piano teacher on the basis of skill and technique but also a warm and encouraging mentor to students. She relates with children better than most school teachers I encountered, and I found in her a patient and uplifting instructor even when the musical pieces were difficult or at times frustrating. She consistently struck the balance of challenging me with pieces at times slightly at the end my reach while never overburdening me with pieces that were simply too difficult. Together we prepared for, and I performed in, yearly recitals that taught me the benefit of hard work and perseverance; the ability to withstand nervousness and hold my own; and pride in myself when I succeeded. I could not have done any of that without such a fantastic piano teacher. Anyone looking to enroll oneself or one’s child in piano lessons should not hesitate to call up Ms. Loberant.

I studied with Diana for 12 years--much of what I know about learning music I owe to her patient teaching: good posture and hand position, working through the tricky parts, the pleasure of translating a score into music. She has a deep musical foundation and many years developing her students' skills and appreciation for music.
