Roy came to finish some molding and trim and install some shelving. He was very professional and completed the work in top notch fashion, the trim looks beautiful. He was finishing work that was started by another contractor and even though the other contractor had not taken care to do the job well, Roy was able to somehow make it look fabulous when he was done. Would definitely hire him again.

Chris did a great job on our project. He re-grouted our foyer, hallway, closet and bathroom. Additionally, he helped us spruce up our half bathroom by removing an old tile vanity & backsplash and replacing with a new quartz counter top, mirror, light and towel fixtures. He was punctual and worked around our busy schedule. Chris has a great attitude and was patient with my nit-picky requests. I would hire Chris again in the future.

11/5/2016 Charles Schenck- Auburn Home Improvements- came early today and finished the job this early evening. Great job and a very hard worker. Our back three season porch roof had failed after 19 years. Mr. Schenck put on a self sealing rolled roofing for low pitch roof. Looks great!

Several years ago Tom remodeled our business to add two new offices. Tom's work was of the best quality, competitive price and done on time. A few years later, as our needs changed, we had to add new office space and remodel some old offices into a new production area for new equipment. The first person that came to mind was Tom. Tom tackled that job the same as he did the first with quality, price and on time completion. This last job was a little harder as at the last moment we found that we needed to open up a doorway to get the equipment in and also add a ventilation system. Tom worked with the equipment installers and got everything done in a timely manner and we were able to get the equipment up and running to meet our production needs. The next time we need a project done, Tom is at the top of our short list. Ralph Liverpool Litho

You can’t ask for any more than that from your Contractor. We were looking at the option of adding a three car garage/2BR apartment to our Cayuga Lake property. I was very hesitant to do so as we had no experience with contractors and our main home is outside NYC. We would be six hours away from monitoring the process and correcting any problems. I was worried about having to track down my builder, demanding promised changes and watching deadlines pass. My neighbor had gone through this and I wasn’t thrilled having seen the process. Another neighbor told me about Mike Poorman, who had done some work for them in the past. I got a chance to meet Mike and see some of his work. My wife and I got a good feeling from that meeting and decided to take the plunge. We worked with Bob Eggleston (designer) and he took our ideas and turned out a solid set of plans that had everything we wanted in the house. Bob and Mike guided us through the process with the Town and we quickly got approvals. The construction contract was simple; I provide some money up front to get started. After that, more money would change hands as specific parts of the project were completed. That let me know that Mike had confidence in his team and I wouldn’t be pre-funding the whole build and at risk. Plans were approved over the winter, the contract was signed and we were ready to go in the spring. No build ever goes exactly as expected, but basically, Mike and his crew executed down the contract in almost perfect sequence. Mike would send me pictures of completed work and we would move to the next line on the list. Occasionally, I would drive up to check things out or one of my neighbors would give me an update. One thing Mike did which really helped was recommending that we choose certain materials ourselves. Things like flooring, kitchen cabinets, countertops etc. were outside the contract. Mike provided an estimate about approximate expense for materials but installation costs were in the contract. My wife and I got to choose exactly the items we wanted while knowing the added costs to our project. In this part of the process, Mike acted as our trusted advisor; steering us away from bad choices and dealing with the vendors once our choice was made. Spring is almost here and we look forward to enjoying the new building. We’ve gotten a lot of compliments on the building’s appearance and the quality of workmanship. I highly recommend Mike and his team and expect to use them again in the future. I even enjoyed playing in his golf tournament!

My wife were in dire need of a new deck and had some trepidation about finding the right folks for such a major job. Could we find contractors with the right experience? Would they respect the aesthetic needs of our old home? Would the cost be withing our financial capabilities? To say we lucked out in finding Victory Service Partner Construction is a vast understatement--their promptness, up-front communications, competitive pricing, stellar work, and personable staff exceeded our wildest expectations! Victory provided us with the most stress-free work we've EVER had done on our house; NO tasks (either large or small) were completed until we'd been fully apprised of our options and both my wife and I felt instantly comfortable with the entire group of workers who spent time completing our job. Our deck is beautiful, FAR more functional than our old one, and perfectly in keeping with the existing architecture. It REALLY doesn't get better than that! Do NOT hesitate to call Victory ANY home repair needs, whether they're large or small. And did I mention they did amazing tile work INSIDE our house? We given them my strongest recommendation and encourage potential patrons to contact me for additional information or a more precise referral...

Everything about my experience with Kevin was positive and satisfactory. He is prompt, thorough, professional, and committed to his work. I had an especially tough installation that Kevin took on in an old house I had purchased. I was immediately impressed with how well he thought things through and figured out what needed to be done. He explained the process, did the work, and his pricing was fair. I've already passed his card out to a number of friends.

Frank is willing to do almost any kind of work. He is conscientious about doing it right and gets to work promptly. If he is going to be delayed or thinks the weather will interfere with working he always calls to let us know. He has done gardening, landscaping, junk removal, rototilling, delivered loads of rocks and mulch. He has helped with installing an awning. Frank has a positive attitude and is in good physical condition so he works fast. His services don't come cheap, but he is worth it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
