Sebastian was very prompt and professional. He was asked to silicone toilets and a backsplash. I thought that the backsplash turned out well. His workmanship on the toilets however was quite crude - not at all what I had expected or seen of other jobs and hard to fix once that silicone was laid down (see photo). I also had to supply painter's tape - not something which was communicated beforehand and something that I hasten to think buyers should need to know else they can expect worse results. I have contacted The Service Guys in the hopes of having at least one toilet re-siliconed (where I have already cut away some of the excess silicone that missed the gap, making it an easy touch up). I will update if that happens.

after moving out all the furniture in preparation for our previously scheduled carpet cleaners, they arrived with broken equipment and an attitude and told us they would come back next tuesday, leaving us in chaos until then i did a fast search and found mike who came over that afternoon to work on our VERY carpets. he was like our savior he was friendly, knowledgeable and thorough. needless to say, we were grateful! best of all, he's a one man band, not a large corporation that pays it's workers lint and pockets the difference. he answers the phone, discusses your needs, comes over and does the job himself. no middleman. you have to get behind that! he does other things as well. we will certainly call him when we are ready to power wash the house

Silvia was great, exceeded my expectations and made what was once a grimey move-in for our new apartment into a much better living situation. She cleaned the grout and tiles for our bathroom and it almost felt like new. She also did a great job with the floors and went above and beyond putting things away and helping setup our new place.

I was 100% satisfied with the work I had done by this company! They were very helpful and accommodating from the receptionist who answered the phone to the man who came to do my work. They came to my house the same day that I called! The gentleman who came to clean my tile and grout in my kitchen was prompt, knowledgeable, nice and thorough. My floors came out amazing!! The price they gave me was more reasonable than any other company around. I will definitely use this company for any other work in my house that I need!

Rosita’s House Cleaning sent 2 women to clean the living room and bathroom after extensive renovation work. For some reason the contractors didn’t use drop cloths and the furniture and floors were covered with plaster dust and paint specks. The contractors eventually swept but the dust was already ground into the wood floors. Rosita’s crew swept, vacuumed and mopped but there was still a trace of plaster that now looks like a white filmy coating making the living room floor look dull. I’ll be talking to the building manager about professional floor cleaners to repair the damage done by the contractors. But as far as the cleaners go, they did a great job.

Marsel was great, he managed to exceed all of my expectations and the apartment was sparkling clean! He also managed to get rid of a funny smell I had in one of my closets and couldn't get rid of (he found out it was caused by one of my window-units' filters that needed cleaning/exchanging). I highly recommend Marsel and Smart Cleaning NYC.

The ladies are consistently doing a great job. I have never had a cleaning company that pays attention to details each and every time they clean. They even emptied the paper shredder. Our other cleaners never did that. This makes my life so much easier. I appreciate that the same people work on the house each time. I look forward to how the couch looks after the cleaning... I like seeing the vacuum marks on the back of the couch. Plus keeping the fridge looking great is something I didn't expect. So thorough. Thanks!

Absolutely wonderful service! These women are very professional and did an excellent job of cleaning my apartment. They were courteous of the law office down stairs and also very understanding of the difficult parking near my place. They had all their own equipment and our place looks gorgeous. I would recommend to anyone looking for a serious cleaning. They did my fridge, oven and bathroom. They removed discoloration in my shower that I have been trying to scrub away for months and months! Thank you, ladies !!!

I was planning the opening for our fitness studio, and Daniel Carter came out right away to see the job to give a quote. Although we went with another vendor, he checked in to make sure we were OK, and when that cleaner was an hour and a half late he said he would get his crew on standby. I definitely will be using Carter Cleaning next time!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
