Charlotte is a miracle-worker! I've always struggled with math (and by struggle, I mean I have some seriously bad math anxiety). I had to take a statistics class for my coursework and I found her halfway through the semester after almost failing my latest exam (again), feeling hopeless and discouraged, and wanted to drop my class altogether. From day 1 she was professional and easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable instantly. She is wonderful in how she approaches tutoring. She's awesome at adapting her teaching style to however you learn best, is super funny and has an awesome personality that makes learning math feel more like you're learning from a friend than from a stranger. After working with Charlotte, my 3rd exam grade was a B-, I scored a 90% on my final exam, and I just got my final grades for the semester today and found out that I PASSED statistics! Honestly, she was the saving grace that got me through stats, and if she can help ME pass stats, she can definitely help anyone that needs it!

Ms Kelly is amazing, she connects with the person she is tutoring in a friendly level. She loves what she does and my son loves her too. He feels comfortable with her. She explores the likes of her students and the tutoring lessons revolve around the needs and the likes. I absolutely love her and will recommend her to everyone!

Matt tutored our 7th grader in math through a challenging period of Saxon Math algebra. His consistent good nature and excellent tutoring helped our son get through the tough stuff. Math used to be scary for our son, but not anymore. Thanks so much for the great work!

My daughter has always struggled in math and science. She has been in school based tutoring programs, and basic math and science classes, her teaches have worked with her, but nothing seemed to help. Her math and science grade's ranged between D's and F's. She started working with Lindi second semester of her sophomore year her fist grading period report she had a C+ in both classes, the teachers started asking her what was going on, she said Ms. Lindi. Lindi would follow what the teacher was teaching in class and put it in terms that was easy to understand, and gave great memory tips. In her junior year she averaged B's and A-, by the end of the school year for the first time she made the merit roll with a B+ in both classes and A- on both final exams. She took her ACT test this past summer and some of her best scores where in math and science. She is now in her senior year and she is now in college prep math and science and doing well, and she continues to work with this wonderful lady. I can not thank Lindi enough, her prices are very affordable, and she will do her best to work with any schedule.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:
