Sarah is so friendly and easy to work with. She spends time listening to what you want and makes sure the pictures are in the style you want. She got some great pictures at both our wedding and later of our son (who wasn't in a very good mood, but she captured the essence of him perfectly). Apart from great photos, an added bonus is that Sarah gives you a CD with all the pictures (whereas some photographers will make you buy prints from them and do not give you all the originals). Sarah kept in touch with me about when the photos would be ready and got them to me in good time. I highly recommend her.

Snappy George was among a group of about 6 real estate photographers that responded to my request for quotes. His story was compelling and his price was competitive but not the lowest. We selected him mostly based on the quality of his response and the information provided on his website. He was able to make an appointment quickly. He arrived on time with all the necessary equipment. Talk about attention to detail! George spent a significant amount of time photographing every room from various perspectives, exposures and lighting. The outcome was nothing short of amazing. He provided the MLS quality pics, a set of high def pics and a video walk through of the property - completed and delivered to me in only two days. To top it off, George is one of the nicest folks I've met in years. You'll be very happy to have him in your home. And at the end of the day, you'll say, "I just met one of the nicest guys I've met in years". Yes, he's that goo!

Mike Cotton did an outstanding job of photographing our 25th wedding anniversary party. We are truly grateful for the beautiful photographs he took, which give us lasting memories to return to again and again. The evening was a joyous one for us, and the happiness of all of our guests comes through clearly in Mike's images. We especially appreciate the gorgeous depths of color he achieved, the way he graciously invited our guests to pose for portrait shots, and how he captured all of the important moments during the evening. We do not recall him moving about, taking hundreds of photos (he was very discreet), but the proof of his excellent work arrived in the mail less than one week later. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mike! We heartily recommend your service to others who are planning to hire a photographer for an event.

Connie is not only a very fine portrait photographer, but she is also very pleasant to work with. I have used her services for my client Christ Church Cathedral when I needed official portraits of board members and staff. She always did the job within the budget and on time, even when I had her working on a tight deadline. I recommend her highly.

Words can't explain how happy I am Brandi and Mark were our videographers for our June 2013 wedding .They did an ABSOLUTE fantastic job to get any all shots and were so easy to work with. They helped recommend great places for first look and photographs, it was perfect they both really have an eye and talent for what they do. I didn't even know they were there half the time but when I got the video back it was MORE THAN clear they didn't miss a single shot or event throughout the day! I honestly couldn't be more impressed and in awe with our wedding video and products, it's more than we could imagine! I always thought of wedding videos of being like the VHS tapes of my parents wedding, slow and boring, but WOW was I proven wrong and more than happy with Brandi's work and how the video was made and UNBORING it was. There are so many shots throughout the day that, as the bride, you don't get to see. Brandi captured that all and let my husband and I relive our wedding day and we couldn't be more pleased! I highly recommend.

We met Ashley through our venue and she was a dream! We had terrible experiences with local photographers not just in price but in how controlling they were on the event (one even suggested we through ceremony to the side and meet for a photo shoot before we were married on the day of!). She was very open and made our pre shoot all about us. We can't wait to get married and work with Ashley to capture the event! Definitely give her a call!

We love Firefly Productions??. We view over 100 videographers and kept coming back to their previews. They were so professional and worked so well with the bride even though they were long distance. Carrie and Maurice were so discreet that my husband asked if they even showed up! This was so important to our daughter that whoever we chose would be quietly in the background and not a distraction. They were way above and beyond what we wanted. Our video preview is so touching and out of this world. We didn't want a video that was like a big Hollywood production. It was done with grace and sophistication! There was a reason why we kept going back to their previews. They are amazing and I cannot sing their praises enough! They delivered way beyond what we ever expected. They were so kind to Kami and Ethan and worked so well with the photographer. Matt Vickers Photographer said they were the best he has ever worked with. If any potential shoppers would like to speak to someone who used their services, feel free to give them my email and I will talk to them personally. I also can't thank you enough for sending them our direction. We will be forever grateful!! They captured the most beautiful day of our family's lives and I will never be able to thank Firefly Productions enough. We will have them for all of our kids weddings so that's one less detail we will have to worry about. Carrie and Maurice (Firefly Productions) are the best in the business and we are so fortunate to have them in our area! They are awesome!!!!

I hired Chris in May 2018 because I needed professional author photos that looked great and set a particular mood. Her package was not only a great value, but she was the first photographer to get back to me with answers to my questions. I quickly booked a photoshoot with her. The photoshoot was a lot of fun, and Chris moved me around the studio to get different poses under the perfect lighting. She was extremely friendly and professional. Within a few days, she sent me the gallery of photos. They were all so great that I ended up buying more than I'd originally bargained for. I plan on using multiple on various storefronts or even switching them out from time to time to let them all shine! I'm attaching photos that Chris took so you can see the various set-ups we used. If you are looking for a photographer to take professional photos of you, Chris is a fantastic choice. She's easy to work with and gets the job done in a short time. This was my first time hiring on Thumbtack and Chris made sure it was a wonderful experience. Thank you!

We got married on 9/8/18 and used the Combs Photography and it was one of the best decisions for our big day. Jessica and Cody were great from the beginning. Jessica was very professional every time I communicated to her and her responses were always on time. They traveled and were at the venue a day before to go over possible photo shots and they even did RESEARCH on our venue BEFOREHAND to check out possible photo ideas!! Both Jessica and Cody were easy to talk to and we felt very comfortable with them, which is so important when it comes to the vendors you use for such an important day. The day of, they were EVERYWHERE! I mean, every time I turned around or every time my wedding party turned around, Jessica and Cody were snapping pics of something or someone! Even after I told them they were good to go, they wanted to stay to take pictures of candid moments :) And then there’s the actual photos! Great quality and edits and I only have my sneak peeks! I can’t wait to see the rest of the photos because I know they will be amazing. It was awesome to have two photographers vs just one and it just brought an ease of mind. Thanks Cody and Jessica!!

Cara was a pleasure to work with and had fun with my silly request to have pictures taken in the spray park. From what I've seen of the "sneak peek" of our photos they are going to be gorgeous! I would highly recommend her since she is one of the few photographers that still does prints.

I had a very positive experience with the photographer. He was very professional yet also personable. It was my first nude shoot and I thought I would feel intimidated, or perhaps shy is a better word, but I was immediately at ease in the studio and it showed in the finished product. I look forward to working with this photographer again in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
