What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Everyone at Ultimate U has been fantastic. Troy really took the time to listen to my past experiences and what my current goals are and match me up with the professional best suited for my needs, and I couldn't be happier with my trainer. Christian is incredibly knowledgeable and takes the time to explain the workouts and teach me. He's the best trainer I've worked with at any gym. But you won't find any of the trainers at UU just counting reps and playing with their phone, they are all engaged with their clients and really care about helping them to achieve their goals. I wish I had discovered UU sooner and not wasted time and money at big corporate gyms.

I’m an avid gym goer but I felt like I was stuck. Workouts weren’t as fun and rewarding. I found Josh on here and met with him. We talked for an hour and let me say, he knows his stuff. I felt confident that he could help me get to where I needed to be. And let me say, he has exceeded expectations. This man pushed me to my breaking point and then some. And it’s only been 3 training sessions...but I look forward to the next one. If you are looking for an intense challenge to push yourself in the gym to get to your goals, go see this man.

Gentry is amazing! She listens to what you really need out of the training and your time with her is more than just counting reps in the gym. She has a whole community of people we talk every Wednesday in zoom and it is so motivating to hear everyone else’s experiences because you never feel alone or defeated! She is always quick to respond and makes the appropriate adjustments to you diet/workout depending on how you’re feeling or your results. Before training with Cory I was decently athletic, worked out for fun, and knew my way around the gym. I met with Cory to dial in my form and take my diet and training to the next level. I reached out to Pursuit Fitness through Thumbtack back in September and man was that a great decision on my part! I wanted to find a personal trainer that understood that I was in this to form a habit with the expectation that I could take over on my own once I felt comfortable. Russ was the perfect fit. He responded to my quote that same day and we set up a time to discuss his options for personal training and go over a free consultation. I was very impressed by his professionalism, knowledge, and facility! I ended up purchasing a three-month package for 30 minute sessions and we worked together to establish goals and track my progress. Every time I showed up he was ready to go with a new routine, and throughout the session he would explain which muscles we were targeting, why it's beneficial, and how it all connects. We would discuss diet and the types of exercises I should be doing when not at the sessions, as well as variations to those exercises. The facility was very nice, a little crowded at times but that just goes to show how more and more people are drawn to Russ's expertise as well as the rest of the team there! I purchased a gym membership as well and really appreciated the 24 hour access. Overall I had a fantastic experience, learned a lot, and will take the knowledge that Russ has given me to develop my own routines to keep active and healthy in the future! Working with Matt has changed my life. I have been working with him for two and a half months and in that time I've lost around 20 lbs and 16 inches throughout my body. I have been dedicated on my end and run, walk, bike or swim on days I am not working with Matt. But the difference is that Matt holds me accountable and helps me grow the confidence to go to the gym and to workout. Every time I have a session with Matt I feel like a stronger woman.
