I have taken Spanish classes with Nidia for about 2 years, and it has been a great experience. My level has definitely improved thanks to her. Nidia is very patient, flexible and helps with anything that you have trouble with in Spanish. I would really recommend her. She is very experienced teacher that will get you where you want your level to be. Although I have not had a chance to take classes from Daniel, but he was very nice and always there to answer my questions or concerns via emails.

Don't hesitate! Schedule Cheryl today! My daughter has been struggling with Spanish this year and her anxiety surrounding the subject is off the charts. Cheryl is patient and not only knows her subject, but knows students. She read my daughter's needs and had a range of resources/tools at her disposal. She read that my daughter was anxious and not only was a calming presence, but switched tools until she was comfortable. After one lesson my daughter feels like there is hope for her in Spanish! Cheryl also took me out of the middle and is contacting the Spanish teacher to collaborate and find what is necessary for my daughter to be successful in her class. Her grade went from and F to a B+ last quarter, she has an A this quarter with and her teacher constantly compliments her diction! No need to look further, schedule Cheryl today!

Mrs. Fulton was my instructor for 2 years of my Spanish education and was one of the most influential instructors that I have had the pleasure of learning from. It seemed easy for Mrs. Fulton to make her lessons both fun and exciting, and she also made sure that she created an environment that was conducive to learning Spanish. If I didn't understand something or if I wanted to learn something outside of the curriculum, then Mrs. Fulton took the time, both in class and after school, to provide me with the materials that would help me succeed. Being under Mrs. Fulton's instruction not only helped me as a high school student, but has also continued to help me in my college studies. I am very lucky to have been her student.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
