AJ and his coworker did a really nice job on installing this range hood with an exhaust vent. He had some issue to get the 6’’ hole saw from an online retailer for this specific task and it turned out not work as expected. But anyway, AJ managed to make it work. And the result is satisfying. Would recommend to anyone who needs range hood installed.

We had a good experience having our entire basement painted. (Concrete floors and open ceiling included) Tim paid attention to the many details involved, such as the great variety of surfaces he was painting, and he was very responsive to any questions or concerns I had. I would highly recommend any work with this group.

They were great and flexible with my schedule. We actually started communicating almost a month in advance and they were ready to jump in the job once the floors arrived. Also were flexible once we ran out of materials mid project and I had to wait for more floors to be ordered and arrive.

I am extremely satisifed with Reynoso Cleaning Services. The house was lacking a deep clean and after seven hours, the house was sparkling! Items were organized and cleaned very well. Trinkets and such were picked up and cleaned and shelves and flat surfaces were thoroughly cleaned. The walls were cleaned and the floors looked phenomenal after the cleaning was finished. Please be sure to have your preferred cleaning supplies available.

Reflections Hard Surface Restoration (Chris and Josh) did an excellent job installing our new hardwood floors. This was a large install and they took the time up front to develop a plan that would provide the best result, showed up when they said they would and stayed with it until the job was complete. Very satisfied with the company and the results.

To sum it all up into one word.... GREAT! I had my living room and hallway hardwood floors refinished. They came when they said they would, they worked around my schedule, they were professional and did a fantastic job. They even took the time to spot try different finishes to assure my complete satisfaction and went over the best way to care for my floors. I love my newly refinished floors and am anxious to have them come back and do my bedrooms. Highly recommend this company FYI the floors have held up wonderfully even with a teenager, 2 dogs and 1 cat..

I hired Jerry to do all of the plumbing for my new kitchen (install dishwasher, sink and fridge) as well as my new vessel sink in my bathroom. His bid was quite a bit higher than other plumbers, however his work was top notch. He went over everything before hand and I didn't need to stay there with him to make sure it was all done right. He even reworked some old plumbing to bring it up to code. It took the entire day, and cost a bit more but in the end the work was good and I know I won't have any issues going forward.

Gary installed a beautiful subway tile floor, new vanity, and toilet. He had to customize a drawer in the vanity to make it fit our old plumbing which we appreciated as we liked the vanity. His work was meticulous and efficient. I appreciated how he paid close attention to detail. I would higher him again and I also highly recommend his work to others.

Dan recently replaced all interior doors and exterior. A lot of issues came up with the walls and was able to accomplish all tasks in no time. He placed custom trim and crown molding which turned out amazing. We had a very complex and difficult transionital strip from tile to hardwood which he was able to blend very nicely. We were so pleased with his work we allowed him to place a 12' x 24' composite deck with exterior lighting in the posts. Outstanding work and very knowledgable and professional. Highly recommend for any type of project not only for the pricing but the type of work you get out of it all!! If you would like to see pictures I am willing to provide!

We recently purchased our first home and decided to refinish the hardwood floors after we removed carpet from previous owners. Fossil Construction brought these floors back to life! Scott was very professional, courteous, and insightful on our flooring project. His workers completed everything with great craftsmanship and were always punctual. Their pricing is competitive compared to other estimates we received and they were able to get us on their schedule for the time frame we were hoping the project could be completed by. Whatever project you may be getting estimates for, I would highly recommend Fossil! A big thank you to Scott and his team!

Chris and his crew did a great job on cleaning the tile and grout on our kitchen floor. They did the grout color as well and it turn out great. They were very though and really cared about doing the job rite. After finished with the job Chris was still looking over the job and said he wanted to make sure it was perfect cause he didn't want to put his name on it unless it was. His pricing was about the same with the competition but is a local business and did a great job I always recommend hiring a local company over a franchise if there credible. They are credible and I recommend them for another job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
