Tim did a great job with the time constraints I had as I needed interior painting done quickly to get our home on the market. The paint job turned out being larger than we thought but he was able to get everything done in a timely manner. He was very easy to work with.

I hired Acey to do some interior painting after reading the positive Thumbtack reviews. I agree with his previous clients that he is a conscientious and professional painter with a great personality. Acey is incredibly easy to work, which is one of the most important things to consider when hiring someone that will be coming into your home. His prices were reasonable and competitive. Acey made me feel that I was his top priority and showed me that he was dedicated to ensuring 100% satisfaction with his work. My husband is in the customer service business and remarked at the end of the job that "there aren't many people with the same work ethic as Acey these days". I am thrilled with the paint job and have already scheduled Acey to come back this summer to do some exterior painting.

Bob Thomas did an excellent job painting the interior of my home and I definitely would recommend using him if you’re looking for a professional painter who does a quality job quickly! Bob and Jeremiah were very responsive to any questions I had and they got my 1500 square foot interior painted in about 2 days from start to finish. My project was complete just 1 week from first contact, to meeting in person a couple days later for a quote, to painting. The bid was right in line with other bids, however the customer service was great and speaking to Bob was like talking to someone I’ve been friends with for years. Thanks Bob and Jeremiah!

Painted interior of garage. They were prompt and finished in a few hours. Our measurements were off so needed to buy additional paint (maybe an onsite estimate would have been a good idea) but price didn't change for bigger job. Looks like it could be a room in the house. Job well done.

ProvenPro crew was fantastic. I’ve had paint work done in the past by other companies, I just assumed minor mistakes was just how it goes... I couldn’t find one mistake. I’ve never given a company a perfect review, until now. I got 7 quotes before choosing ProvenPro, they were not the cheapest and they weren’t the most expensive, frankly, I just liked the guy they sent out here to do our quote. He was polite and well spoken, followed up with us and didn’t pressure us. I can see from other reviews I’m not the only one that thinks Tom is great at what he does. I would HIGHLY recommend ProvenPro to anyone wanting a high quality paint job on their house at a good price.

Purcahsed a 20 year old home that desparately needed updating. The kitchen, bathrooms, study, closets & pantry, wood & carpeted floors were all renovated and refinished. Interior house painting was also completed. Matt and team are very easy to work with and addressed everyone of my needs when changes invariably occur. I had my fair share of those too. He always said no problem, I'll take care of that at a reasonable price. He also stands by his work, Ive had some issues with plumbing (manufacturer defects 2 years later) which he took care of no questions asked and at no charge. I highly recommend Matt for your home building and/or renovation needs. Dan Drew

My relationship started with a door installation then immediately moved to a full interior re-paint (incl celing), new hardwood, walk-in, resurfacing a leaky basement, electrical re-wiring, ac/heater installation, and brand new kitchen cabinets. After the front door installation, I was amazed how detailed he was in customizing for a perfect fit. His attention to detail of philosophy of doing the job right the first time is why it lead to more work. I simply provided examples of mt concepts and he turned them into reality. Our relationship was so strong I had him working unsupervised and he had a key to my house during my work trips. At the end of the day, there are people who say they can do it, but Ryan does it with perfection and these type are difficult to find.

I had challenging exterior trim painting project. Spartan painters were able to reach areas that no one else could. They also power washed house siding, concrete driveway and paver brick patio. Looks like new again! Highly recommended. Will use their services again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
