- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
PRIVATE LESSONS: After a new adult student or a child student's parent contacts me and we agree upon a lesson day and time, we send them an email with complete instructions, including 1. What happens next 2. Registration instructions for student (and parent/guardian, where applicable) 3. Payment instructions 3. As applicable, either directions to my home-studio or requirements/instructions for logging in for internet lessons 4. Required forms, which must be completed and returned to me before the first lesson.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My training has come from a variety of world-class music instructors and choral conductors (Norma Lowder, Earle Lowder, Gary Bradberry, Morris Beachy, and others); private music lessons with instructors specializing in classical (bel canto) (Margaret Riddleberger, Bonnie Bradley); Broadway-performance technique, general music theater and performance (David Troupe); contemporary method (Jeannie Deva, Per Bristow, Brett Manning) By continually studying and training with the self-paced publications and tools of Seth Riggs (Speech Level Singing Method), Jeannie Deva (Deva Vocal Method/The Contemporary Vocalist), Per Bristow (Sing with Freedom/Bristow Vocal Method), and Ken Tamplin (Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy), I've continually developed in vocal freedom, power, agility, and performance skill. Since 1979, I’ve been involved in a broad variety of musical endeavors: musicals (two seasons in The Washington Savoyards); dinner theaters in the D.C. area; vocal entertainment on a dinner cruise ship; wedding and event singing; church soloist; church worship bands; church choirs and licensed major musicals as a child, youth, and adult; The University of Texas Longhorn Singers. I'm trained in early childhood music education (both "Music Together" and "Kindermusik") and owned and ran a Kindermusik studio for several years. Also, I've taught music, especially singing lessons and general musicality, in public and private schools, libraries, churches and childcare centers. In addition to teaching independently, I am also currently part-time teaching faculty for the Cadek Conservatory of Music at the Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga. Essentially, I've been involved in all manner of singing and music-making, whether in the context of professional, personally-meaningful, and/or fun, from childhood up to now. I believe music is a gift and love to see people of ALL ages singing with expression, power, agility, confidence, and joy - for life!
