I have an old Stucco house and a detached garage that both needed painting desperately. Robert was able to power wash the surfaces of both to remove any loose paint and oxidation. What loose paint that would not come off was removed with a hand held scraper. All surfaces were prepped with a base coat of primer as the house and garage had not been painted in 25 years at least. All caulking around the the windows was removed and new put in place. Loose trim wood was secured were it has come loose over time. It took a couple extra gallons of paint then originally estimated but that is to be expected on a house that had not been painted in so long. I gladly paid the extra amount for it. Robert was able to juggle his other jobs with mine around the rainy days and was able to finish the job in a reasonable time. I would highly recommend anyone consider Erisman Custom Solutions for any painting they may need. My neighbors have all commented on how nice the house looks. At least one has asked for a quote based off the work he saw Robert put in on my house.

Brothers Pressure Washing and Jason Oyer did an excellent job of removing white pain that had been on a building for over a year. The job was hard, the paint, at first, would not come off. Jason, was determine to find a solution and did. The paint came off without damaging the brick underneath. All within my budget. I would highly recommend them.

Larry was great. He called us to offer his interior painting services and was over to do an estimate in less than an hour. He primed all the walls the night before and finished in the morning. He was very professional and easy to get along with. He communicated with us very well through the whole process. I would definately recommend Larry and will be calling him in the future with any other projects I have. Highly recommended!!!

Vicki and Ralph were great! They came and painted the exterior of the house and covered everything up and put things back when they were done. They even touched up some places that I had missed when I painted some of it. Already have contacted Vicki for the next job!

Michael and her family painted our newly finished home, and it looks amazing. When I initially reached out to her she came to my home within 48hrs to view the project and gave me a solid quote, right away. Something a couple others were not able to do. They arrived on painting day, and stayed until the job was complete. There were no spills or blotched areas. She's great.

Josh designed, painted & installed wainscotting on the ceiling of two bathrooms. The quality of his miter cuts were spot on considering our home is 50 years old with uneven walls. He also painted the walls in both bathrooms. He was very friendly, timely and cleaned up after his work. We would highly recommend him and will be using him again soon for other projects.

Mid Ohio did several jobs for me. The first project was a shadowbox fence which turned out wonderful the dogs love being able to run around. Our second project was a 30 x 40 pole barn including insulation, electrical, concrete floor, and a driveway. Do to the amazing job Trent and his guys done we went ahead with a couple of smaller projects inside the house. The flooring in the living room, dining room, foyer, back hall, pantry, kitchen, half-bath, and laundry room were changed out to engineered flooring that my dogs have yet to scratch. After the floors both bathrooms were done including tiling the walls, flooring, putting in a shower, lowering a tub that the previous owner had built up so high that I needed a step stool to get into it, both vanities, light fixtures, toilets, mirrors, painting, and both exhaust fans. All the flooring looks absolutely amazing and what we wanted. Last but not least one of the most important things when remodeling is that they cleaned up the mess and I didn't have to clean anything when they left. These guys are great and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a quality job.

Price was fair. It was more difficult than I think it should have been to get scheduled, but the painters did a nice job and were professional (on-time, taped things off well, protected carpet, cleaned & locked up when finished). I would hire them again for future painting needs.

We chose your painted space to repaint our entire house. She and her staff did an outstanding job helping us pick the paint colors that were right for us. They did a great job fixing all the previous homeowners mistakes while painting. Even went so far as to scrub off paint from baseboards and flooring the previous owners had left behind. Couldn't be happier with how the house looks now!

I used Tim to paint my living room and a small bathroom. Tim was very careful around all my trim and the lines were very crisp. Tim also fixed a leak in my bathroom faucet without charging extra. I definitely recommend Tim for any painting or repair work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
