Jon, was great to work with. From the first meet he was professional and knowledgeable on my project. He was hired to install new gutters on my detached garage and repair fascia and gutters on my house w/new downspouts. He completed the job and cleaned up. He even stayed within my budget. I will be hiring him for more projects here in the near future!

Bottom line, Mr. Napier is an old-school repair man. No frills, no overhead, no travel fee. Just a flat rate per hour for what you need fixed, he will repair it. For my repairs I needed items fixed like a leaky shower faucet and leaky toilet shutoff valve, hardwiring a dishwasher into a non-plug-in connection, and laying adhesive tiles in a bathroom. After Mr. Napier arrived and assessed the specific materials needed, he made a list for me of the necessary parts and materials, so he proceeded to work on some of the fixes while I went to Lowe's. As he worked, he even explained how certain parts become non-functioning over time and what to watch out for to save yourself some money in replacing them. If you are not a handy kind of person at all and don’t know much about various home improvement materials and parts, it would be best that Mr. Napier first go with you to the home improvement store together and purchase the necessary materials so all of your repairs can be worked on straight through. I would hire Mr. Napier again.

I had a drywall install and repair job that was on a tight timeline. Danny responded quickly and worked diligently to meet my needs. His work ethic was great and he takes pride in a job well done. He is also personable and has a good sense of humor. His assistant was just as courteous and efficient as he was. Danny also connected me to a great painter who worked to meet my tight deadline. I will definitely hire Danny for the next job I need done.

We originally hired Kelsha Flavigny to help repair some ceiling damage after our roof leaked, but he did such an amazing job that we asked him to complete a few other jobs -ranging from building a custom window seat to an entire bathroom remodel. Kelsha is a fantastic contractor. He shows up on time, cleans up the work area each day, and does excellent work. His pricing is fair and reasonable. In fact, we gave him more than what he asked because we thought he didn't charge enough for the amount and quality of work he performed. You can tell he is detail oriented and truly cares about the quality of his work. It's hard to find a contractor that excels in everything you need - but trust us, he will exceed your expectations. He's great with woodwork, flooring, lighting/electrical, drywall, plumbing and has the eye of an artist when it comes to designing custom spaces. He even helped us pick out paint colors for our walls and built-ins. I highly recommend Kelsha and his work.

John was punctual & professional from start to finish. I couldn’t even get other companies to come give me an estimate until 3 weeks from now! A leak in our bedroom ceiling was not something we were comfortable waiting on. He came out, assessed the damage, explained the process & the price & was able to come back & do the repairs within 24 hrs of our approval. We are very satisfied as this has been the ONLY company that has actually responded in a timely manner & completed the work at a reasonable price since we moved here 9 months ago. For whatever reason - we have not had good experiences with contractors in the last 9 months some relocating. We will be calling Integrity from now on with all future repairs:) thank you!

Darrin was excellent to work with. He was prompt and courteous and clean, and got the job done quickly. We had him repair some ceiling damage which required spackling a patch and the end result matched well. It required several visits to our house and each day he was on time and quick with his work. He ensured that we were satisfied and we could tell he valued our opinions on his work. We would definitely hire Darrin again!

Sam did an excellent job remodeling our basement. Including flooring, lighting, installation of French door, stonework on the bar, bathroom remodel and drywall repair. It's now my favorite room in the house! I spend the majority of my time in my basement. I highly recommend Sam for any of your remodeling needs. I trusted him in my home. He is neat and picked up after himself everyday. I'm a difficult person to please when it comes to remodeling and he exceeded and went past my expectations.

I hired Mike to complete a window installation on my big front picture window. Mike came and provided me with a fair estimate. I hired him on the spot. He set an appointment up that worked with my scheduled and he showed up on time on the day of the appointment. In no time at all the project was complete and Mike cleaned everything up before he left. I would definitely hire him again. He was personable. I would recommend him to anyone. Thank you Mike!

Mr. Pablo just completed a job for me (replacing old and damaged quarter round) in several rooms. He was very professional in all aspects. He came and measured, purchased the quarter round based on my description of what I wanted and within 24 hours he was here working. He arrived on time, worked till he was finished and was very neat. I am very pleased with his work and look forward to hiring him for a tiling project in my bathroom as soon as he is available. He had sample pictures of his previous work and that and the way he handled himself on the first project was enough to make me know I wanted him to do the work. He is a delightful and honorable young man.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
