Meghan and Bill both trained Max for part of the 15 days and then Meghan took over and she did what I would consider amazing. I have been needing to use a walker with a fold down chair so I can walk and then sit if need be, I have been working on regaining my strength over the past 2 years. Max stays right next to me, he actually does a "heel" better with the walker. He also does an awesome "heel" next to a handicap scooter for when I go to the store. He stays right by it and really does not pay attention to anyone around. I just can't say how glad I received an excellent recommendation from Ranger's grandmother. Her son had him training at the Ohio facility. Max was trained at the San Antonio facility. Thank you, Bullet Proof Dog Training!

Cheryl did an amazing job training my dog. He was only about 12 weeks when she started with him and he has progressed tremendously! She made sure he met all the goals we talked about. I highly recommend her!

Melissa is amazing! She has transformed our 3 year old lab into a well-behaved, lead-friendly, walking, fun-family dog. Our 80 lb lab was challenged with many physical issues in her first year of life. She had two major surgeries before she turned one year old, which kept her bed ridden in her crate for the next year. Melissa trained her for two weeks in her own home and Jolene came back a new dog. Melissa then gave us written directions on how to continue Joey's training by correcting our own behavior with regards to Jo's training needs. Jolene is now off to college with our daughter and is well-behaved and loved by all. We highly recommend Melissa's Mutts and Mongrel's for all your dog's (and your) training needs! Brandon from NKY pet sit took care of our dog and cat while we were on vacation. We were anxious about leaving our animals home but he calmed our nerves. We knew that they were all in good hands with Brandon. Our animals loved him and they were well cared for. Brandon also brought in our mail and took out our garbage. We will definitely use him again!!

In 5 days time it was like I had a new dog, both of my dogs now obey commands to sit, lay down, and we can take leisure walks with very little barking! Fantastic training.

100% recommended!!! We searched for a dog trainer on thumbtack not knowing anyone in the area, and we felt that Robert was the most personable and wanting to know what we were looking to achieve..... so we drove the extra distance to have him board and train our rescue dog. The outcome was remarkable and more than we expected with only 10 days with her. He kept in touch with us and even sent photos. She came home happy and listening to commands! Some friends of ours are already booking their dogs with him and I am looking forward to seeing their progress as well. Thanks for your amazing work Robert!!!

Randy was EXTREMELY responsive to my initial request for information. He invited me out and my dog out to his facility just to check it out. I was sold the moment i walked through the door! He and his staff are absolutely wonderful. They truly love dogs and treated our dog like a cherished member of the family (which is what she is to us). They are very adept at taking a dog from unruly and undisciplined to calm and compliant. We did the 5 day program and were very happy with the results. What i like the most though is they stand behind their training 100%. Anytime we need to take our dog back for a tune-up or just want additional tips it is at no charge! While the service did seem a little pricey initially i can honestly say we got our money's worth and then some!

This gal is the best! Our dogs don’t get stressed nearly as much as with other groomers! We won’t go anywhere else! She uses all-natural products, which are much better on their fur & skin, files the nails, as well as trimming them, so no sharp edges. Our dogs even get a treat to take home!

About

I started dog training since 1996 in Japan. Our family moved to US since 2008 and we always have two to four dogs in our house. I love that our paws friends to help us live happily with their family.

About

I can provide training and exercise that will help your dog become a great family member! I use completely force free methods. ZERO prong, choke, chain, or shock collars. Buckle or martingale collars are acceptable along with front clasp harnesses! (I don't mind giving recommendations) We work WITH our dogs and help them figure out what we DO want from them and not what we DON'T want from them. I will help you make training into a fun game with your dog instead of a 'chore'. Training doesn't only make your pup tolerable to the family unit but strengthens your bond to your pup and makes your dog WANT to work for you! I love seeing the faces of dog parents when they see their dogs reach their goals! The 'AH-HA' moment! Creating working, dynamic relationships between owner and dog! Exposing FORCE FREE training!!! Working with people from all around the city and building successful relationships!

About

Does your dog hate car rides? Does he/she have anxiety about going to the groomers? Are you too busy to take your precious pooch to the beauty salon? Then, look no further! I am a certified groomer of seven years, a stay-at-home mother, and animal behavior specialist. I will come to your house and groom your puppy right before your eyes! I provide full-service grooming, from a simple bathing to breeding and doing specific hair cuts. All grooming comes complete with nail grinding (no painful nail cutting), ear cleaning, anal glands expressed (yes gross but extremely necessary for a healthy pet), and complimentary de-shed treatment. Aside from grooming, I can also provide one-on-one training techniques (our puppy is fully potty trained at only 10 weeks old!) Note that I will groom cats if they are okay with strangers, and you agree to a small dose of children's Benadryl. This will keep your kitty from becoming too anxious and is safer for their well being and mine. Most grooming companies refuse cats and/or will give them anesthesia! My pricing is extremely reasonable and cheaper than PetsMart. It's guaranteed! You can call today to schedule an appointment and have your pet pretty for the holidays!

We focus more exclusively on the relationship between pet and owner, creating an unbreakable bond that ties them together, so that they work better together. We will initially work with the dog, showing them the command and what is expected, then we hand the control to the owner and help them master the command. I love working with the pets and owners and the satisfaction I feel when I see pet and owner working hand in paw

About

I worked at a K-9 training, where only "positive" behavior was rewarded. Negative behavior was to be put into a "time out", where the dog was removed from the other dogs until they calmed down, then released back. We never raised our voice, were taught how to approach a "new" dog and worked training dogs at every opportunity: sitting before they were fed or sitting before taking out for walks or potty break. Everything was always a learning experience. I was learning to work with a "positive reinforcement" approach until my position was "eliminated." I worked there for 10 months. I cleaned the kennels, fed and walked the dogs and have some experience "grooming" from past schooling. I'm a great multitasker and work well with other team members.

About

I do what my customers want that they can't or don't want to do. I take care of animals, houses, yards or whatever is needed. My pet care is like my children, I love and respect them and listen to them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

  • What type of training methods do you use?
  • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
  • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
