Daisy and The Modern Southern Table worked with me on the catering for a pre-wedding picnic for 85 guests. I needed to have the caterer set up the food into a buffet and then come back to break it down afterwards. Daisy was very responsive to my specific requests (about gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options), and she put together a menu that was varied, interesting, and colorful. Communication throughout the process was very good. She responded very quickly to questions, and was responsive to things that came up. Daisy was also punctual. She was ready with everything when I came to the tasting. On the day of the picnic, she showed up exactly on schedule both for the set-up and break-down. I also had not thought of a few details, such as serving spoons for the chafing dishes. Daisy came prepared with everything we might need to serve the delicious food. had told her I was purchasing my own plates and eating utensils (I wanted palm leaf plates and bamboo utensils in order to compost them); but Daisy came to the picnic with picnic plates and eating utensils just in case I had forgotten. This was a sign that she knows her clients don't throw catered parties often and she is thinking of what they might need or forget. I appreciate this a lot! The best thing is that this was accomplished long-distance (except for the tasting), as I live 2 hours away from the venue. I would not hesitate to hire Daisy and The Modern Southern Table again. Thanks, Daisy!

Wendy did a great job. She was willing to learn our specific Kosher needs and had great suggestions on dealing with an older couple. My father is on a salt-free diet and Wendy was very knowledgable and came up with a variety of menu options. Great job Wendy!

Adam Fleischer provided an excellent meal for my dinner party. He met with me prior to my event and asked me specific questions about my expectations. I was impressed with his knowledge of, and access to good quality food. He also was able to accommodate all my guests' diets, including gluten free. He brought all the food and prepared it efficiently. One thing I especially liked about this chef is that he was generous with sharing his recipes and answered all my questions. Best of all, the food was delicious! (Tender and juicy pork roast and baked cauliflower were favorites!) I will use his services again!

I think the true test of any cooking class is how often you make the dish or use the skills you learned in the class. I'm happy to report that I not only has Tikka become part of my standard rotation (I change up the protein all the time), that I also use a experiment with different garam masalas frequently and use fenugreek regularly (I used garam masalas only rarely and never used fenugreek before). What a great class!

Thank You to My Gourmet Caterer for catering my son's Graduation Party !!! The food was a hit and much talked about. Chef Nathaniel was wonderful to work with. I could tell from my very first conversation with the Chef that he had excellent work ethic. He understood my needs and helped me with the menu. He also gave me great suggestions about every aspect of the party. I am glad I listened to his suggestion about having a pizza station as well. The pizza oven was a hit. His crew worked efficiently on the day of the party. Guests thought that I have used My Gourmet Caterer for years for my everts but actually this was just my first time. I had not even sampled all their food except for one dish. I sought them very late and too close to the party that we didn't have time to sample all the food in my menu. Chef also recommended the Bakery. The cake was a hit as well. It was like having family cook for you on the day of your big event in your house. It was pure peace of mind. I would absolutely hire them for my next party !!!!! Thank You again !

I hired Mary Beth to come into my home and teach me how to prepare different styles of meals for my family. My experience was fantastic. I love that Mary Beth was a food scientist for many years so she was able to teach me other aspects of food preparation and ingredients while also teaching me how to cook! I would highly recommend Mary Beth to anyone looking for assistance or instructions in the kitchen!

Thank you Victoria for a delicious and beautiful wedding cake! Trying to find someone who could make my cake gluten free was no easy task, but Victoria understood the requirements in making such a product without risking my health. This was simply the BEST gluten free cake I have ever had and so beautiful. If she can do this with such a complicated request, she can do anything.

My husband got me two cooking classes as part of my Xmas gift. I took the Italian class with my daughter and the breakfast/brunch class with my son. We had so much fun and Tim and Sharon are such great people! I have since made the Italian pasta sauce and meatballs and the eggs benedict several times for my family and they love it!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
