We found Miss Alyssa on Thumbrack and are so glad we did! Our daughter began violin lessons at 5 years old and in a few short months, is reading music, playing familiar tunes and performed in public with confidence. We are very happy with our weekly lessons with Alyssa.

Amber is a fantastic teacher for so many reasons. Here are a few: (1) She personalizes her lessons to your musical background, ability, and goals: I have about 20-years of piano experience that she took into account. She specifically selected repertoire and etudes to help fill in the gaps in my violin-playing ability. However, I also saw her successfully teach (several) (very cute) three-year-olds, who clearly were taught differently than I. (2) She keeps teaching, even after the lesson is over: She often sent me emails with extra tips/thoughts in the few days between my weekly lessons. When I had trouble learning a particular bowing, she did extra research online and asked her colleagues, looking for additional pedagogical techniques to help me. (3) She also keeps her studio well-stocked with many useful tools, including various tuners, chin rests, shoulder rests, and metronomes. She kindly loaned many of these to me so that I could try different things before I committed to buying them. Furthermore, when I was looking to buy a new bow, she graciously agreed to come with me to the violin shop to help me pick (free of charge!). Amber clearly cares deeply about her students, going above and beyond to nurture their musicianship. I would not hesitate to recommend her as a teacher.

My daughter and I are new to the world of making musical sound. John has a great way of explaining the violin in a way that both an adult and a 7 year old girl can both get nderstand.

Yalira was my daughters first ever violin teacher. Considering my daughter hadn’t touched a violin before, Yalira made it an enjoyable experience for her to learn the violin. Yalira has been doing a wonderful job on motivating my daughter who used to dread of having her violin lessons in the beginning. In addition to being patient and encouraging, Yalira’s musical expertise is also incredible.

About

Personalized instruction geared toward performance is at the heart of what we do. Private, one-on-one instruction and group lessons are offered in our convenient location in downtown Hudson. Our teachers believe that it is important to tailor lessons to the needs and goals of the students. All lessons will encourage and prepare students to perform. The Hudson School of Music opened in the summer of 2012. Previously, the school was known as Jam Session Music School and located in Kent. The school was founded by local musicians who are looking to offer a personalized and unique option for music instruction in the area. The founders met while studying at the University of Akron.

Before working with Julian my child was not really engaged in the violin, but for the past two years the excitement has been there. Julian gets into the music and makes the lessons entertaining as well as educational and productive. It is nice that we can have our lesson at home, it makes it much easier for our busy schedules.

Doreen started teaching my oldest son, Darin, 8 years ago when I was pregnant with my fourth son, Gavin, who has been taking lessons from Doreen for the past year as well. The first time we met Doreen we heard one of her students play and were amazed. Happily I can say that thanks to Doreen my oldest son plays just as well now and fills our home with never ending music. Thanks so much Doreen!
