I run a small business and it's been great to meet another person who just shows up on time and gets thing's done without bs. I've been working with Charlie for over a year on a huge variety of projects and he's been very helpful and knowledgeable with all of them. He has done plumbing, hvac, painting, glass & ceramic tile back splashes for me and I will 100% be using him again in the near future. Thanks again Mr. Moon.

Mr. Wallace installed track lighting and rebuilt part of the ceiling in my finished basement. He was a marvelous person to work with: efficient, knowledgeable, clean, courteous, reliable, polite, and modestly priced. I could not have had a more satisfying renovation.

Kirk did an excellent job painting my kitchen and living room and caulked my crown molding and touched up the trim. He was professional, courteous and experienced. His price was fair and his timetable for the job was accurate. I definitely will be using his services again and encourage others to hire him as well.

Did a great job painting the exterior trim on my house. Worked quickly and even replaced my address numbers so they would match the freshly painted area they were mounted on.

Fusion Contracting has completed several projects for us including painting a stairwell leading to downstairs. This was an intricate job with many different angles and we were pleased with the finished result. We have also had Fusion clean and repair our gutters. I will use their services again.

I used Five Star Painting for deck staining. They did an outstanding job. Very thorough and professional. The cost was the main reason for using this company. Very reasonable rates for exceptional work.

I highly recommend Christian for your painting projects. Christian is one of those painters with a super steady hand and doesn’t need to tape all the walls but his painting is precise! He is quick, reliable and affordable. If you are thinking of painting on your own - save yourself the time and hassle and hire Christian! I am very happy with the project he just completed for me.

J Méndez painted our basement in our last house and not only stuck to the time frame he gave us, he also stuck to the price he quoted us. His work was flawless and professional. We sold that house and every showing we had they loved the basement. He also put up doors and painted trim for us and that was an added boost to our houses appearance. The people that came through the house all stated how nice the house looked, the new doors included! I highly recommend this contractor!!

I hired Masters Craft to paint a very large hallway and large master bedroom and bath. I was expecting OK service (like I would from any contractor), but I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by their craftsmanship. The paint work was impeccable and the customer service was phenomenal. The attention to detail they put into my project was amazing- they even touched up some areas even I had not noticed. They truly care about their work and made sure that I was happy with everything every step of the way. Their professional eye and experience even saved me some heartache down the road: Once they started painting in my master bedroom- the color I myself had chosen- they stopped after a while and asked me to really look at the color and make absolutely sure it was what I wanted. I almost immediately realized that the color I had picked was sure to be a disaster for me in the long run (it made the master bedroom look like a baby's nursery), so we picked out a much better color together and it looks AMAZING. They really know their stuff and saved me from potentially years of staring at baby pink walls. The color switch did push the project back just a tad, but they were happy to do so if I meant I was happy with the results. The crew was clean, polite, efficient, and knowledgeable. Not only would I highly recommend Masters Craft, but I've already got them lined up for a couple more projects in my home.

We have had extensive experience with Brother's over the last 10 years. We replaced all of our basement windows with glass block first. Since then we have replaced 8 of 12 windows, 4 at a time. Patrick and the whole company are truly good, honest and fair with pricing and very personal service. There is absolutely no doubt that we will be asking them to do the last 4! Don't hesitate to use these great people!

From start to finish, Mike and his co-worker Nick were the ideal handymen. I had two projects: re-hanging some loose siding, and scraping/painting the front of a garage. Mike responded with a good quote for labor right away, and then he and Nick were able to start the very next morning. They showed up when promised and did both jobs efficiently and excellently. I couldn't be more happy, and I'll definitely use them on future projects.

These guys were awesome. Everything that they said they would be. Showed up on time, gave a free estimate, and painted my entire garage all in one day! Jermaine was really friendly and professional and made the decision an easy one to make. I'm going to have them come back and stain my deck in the spring. Highly recommended!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
