FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
After being a guitar/music major at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA I went on the road to play full time in pop/jazz bands traveling all over the country, playing (and rehearsing) six nights per week. Did that for eight yrs. After that I wanted to continue with a music oriented career so I went back to school, Eastern Mich Univ, to get my music therapy degree. During that time and beyond I continued to play in a duo. I've been a full time music therapist now since 1992, getting to share live music with clients and families every day. - Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Working with a music therapy client, with very fragile health, his life long dream was to have his original lyrics has has written over the years be put to music. After a year or so we completed his first album and are on project #2. He said to me and our staff "this work with David is keeping me alive..." And because I play all styles of music, when he gives me a lyric to put music to he'll say "I'd like this to sound like a James Taylor song, or a Jimmy Buffet song, Pink Floyd, etc..."
