Guljeet was very polite & professional with my 8 year old granddaughter. Although it was a math session, she was inspired by the session & read 2 books before leaving the library. I hope this is a trend, that will continue after every session. I would recommend Guljeet tutoring services.

Our son Connor had taken the Feb 2018 ACT after attending a 4 week (one day per week) general ACT prep course. He scored a 24 composite on the first attempt. I knew with the proper care and guidance that he was capable of performing at a higher level so I did some online research and found Professor Z of Westside Tutoring & Testing Services based on proximity to our location and search results. I decided to read through some of the sites testimonials and lo and behold there is a photo of Professor Z with his most recent ACT tutoring class including one of the students who is a long time family friend. Interestingly enough her parents and I had several conversations about this amazing person that their daughter was getting ACT testing help from. At the time I never really looked into it as Connor graduates the year after. Anyway, there she was in the photo proudly displayed on WTTS Outstanding students of 2016-17. I immediately texted our friends to hear more about Prof Z and their experience. After hearing all of the great things they had to say coupled with the very positive testimonials on the website, it was a no brainer to schedule a visit with Jack (Prof Z). We had our first visit and discussion with Jack in early April, 2018 as we wanted Connor to take the June ACT and then also the test in July depending on the June results. The visit was at Jacks home in his office - where all the ACT prep magic happens Prof Z was very pleasant and covered the entire process with us. He answered all of our questions and we walked away from the meeting feeling very sure that Connor was in good hands with his ACT prep. Jack took over from there and I have to say that he has found his true niche in life. Jack kept this process very organized considering the numerous students he has and their constantly changing and demanding schedules. The communication and organization requirements alone are a full time job. Jack handled it seamlessly. He always made Connor (and us) feel like he was his top priority and made every effort to schedule Connor around his other activities (2 sports, work, school etc..) while juggling the same for 10-12 other students! Amazing ! OK so onto the good stuff!...Connor tested on the ACT 3 times with results as follows: Test # English Math Reading Science Composite Feb-18 24 24 22 24 24 Jun-18 23 23 26 29 25 Jul-18 32 24 30 27 28 Superscore 32 24 30 29 29 The Feb test was prior to Prof Z instruction. June test prep focused on Reading and Science, knowing we were also taking the July test. We cant say enough praise about Prof Z – we are extremely pleased with our sons results. We are thankful for Jacks hard work and commitment to helping Connor and all the other kids that he supports. Jack executes well and his results are far above expectations. Connor is extremely excited and we are very proud and happy for him. Connor says he may make one last attempt at the ACT to see if he can raise the Math score and possibly go above a 30, but we’ll see. Jack tells Connor he can do it and tells him he is capable of great things! Just one of Jacks great qualities! Encouragement=great results WOW ..Reading and english 8 pts increase each, science 3-5 pts increase. Thank you Jack! - Maya and Jeff Walsh, Avon, Ohio Note: The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree..Jacks Daughter Kayleigh helps her Dad with the business side and is extremely helpful, pleasant and professional, just like her father. What a great team they make and a pleasure to work with!

Matt is wonderful. He is tutoring both of my elementary school children and they really like him a lot. He takes his time with the children and gives them both his full attention. As a working single mother, my schedule can be hectic. Matt is very flexible with his schedule and very accommodating with changes in my plans week to week and I truly appreciate that! I am excited to see how the kids will do this next grading period with Matt helping them, because I already see a little more confidence in their approach to schoolwork. I highly recommend Matt as a tutor, he's professional and a pleasure to work with.

The College Review did a great job adapting to my learning style. I'm pretty visual and learn by practicing problems, so the instructor modified my private lessons to cater to how I learn. It was also cool that I was able to pick any time of day for any amount of times per week to have a tutor lesson. Overall this was definitely worthwhile because my score boosted from a 22-29. I would for sure hire them again if I had to choose.

My daughter has always struggled in math and science. She has been in school based tutoring programs, and basic math and science classes, her teaches have worked with her, but nothing seemed to help. Her math and science grade's ranged between D's and F's. She started working with Lindi second semester of her sophomore year her fist grading period report she had a C+ in both classes, the teachers started asking her what was going on, she said Ms. Lindi. Lindi would follow what the teacher was teaching in class and put it in terms that was easy to understand, and gave great memory tips. In her junior year she averaged B's and A-, by the end of the school year for the first time she made the merit roll with a B+ in both classes and A- on both final exams. She took her ACT test this past summer and some of her best scores where in math and science. She is now in her senior year and she is now in college prep math and science and doing well, and she continues to work with this wonderful lady. I can not thank Lindi enough, her prices are very affordable, and she will do her best to work with any schedule.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is ACT test prep?

The ACT is a college entrance exam taken by students (typically in their junior year of high school) to determine admission eligibility and merit-based scholarship eligibility. The test may be taken as many times as desired and is not limited to high school juniors. Originally the acronym stood for American College Testing, but now ACT is the stand-alone name. ACT prep is a way for students to strategically prepare for test-taking. ACT prep helps students improve scores, practice taking the test, learn test-taking strategies, and improve material comprehension. Students can get help with ACT prep tutors in one-on-one sessions, via group tutoring lessons, in online self-study programs, or online with a tutor in video calls. The ACT test covers:

      • English
      • Science understanding and reasoning
      • Math
      • Reading
      • Writing essay (optional)

How do you prepare for the ACT?

The ACT is a universally accepted college readiness exam. There are multiple ways to prepare for the exam. One-on-one ACT prep tutoring is one of the most effective ways for students to ready themselves for the test. A tutor who specializes in ACT prep will coach the student on the type of material they can expect while also working specifically with topics that are more challenging for that particular student. Group tutoring sessions are a more cost-effective way to reap the benefits of an ACT prep instructor; a suggestion is to gather a group of four friends or classmates to share the cost. Professional tutors often recommend that test prep begin approximately three months prior to the exam. Cramming — unfortunately — doesn’t provide the same score results as consistent study, test-related homework, and practice exams do. Weekly two-hour learning sessions are what many pro tutors suggest for their college exam prep students. For top test-taking performance, tutors usually provide work throughout the week and the weekly session is used to cement knowledge and address weak areas. Math is a hard topic for most students, so plan accordingly.

How long does the ACT take?

Total time for the ACT is 2 hours and 55 minutes. If students elect to do the optional writing section, the ACT will be 3 hours and 35 minutes. The ACT college entrance exam has multiple sections. The students receive a set amount of time for each section, within which they complete as much of that category as possible before they must stop. For each timed section, there is a five-minute warning before time is up. There is a 10-minute break between the math and reading sections. When tutors coach students in ACT prep, they can provide timed runs to simulate the experience of taking the different subject matter tests. As part of ACT prep, it’s important to take the entire exam at least once as a practice run. Here is a breakdown of timing and number of questions for each section.

      • ACT English test: 45 minutes for 75 questions that test students’ understanding of standard English rules, production of writing, and vocabulary.
      • ACT mathematics test: 60 minutes for 60 questions that test students’ understanding of math skills up to the start of senior year of high school.
      • Ten-minute break.
      • ACT reading test: 35 minutes for 40 questions that measure students’ reading comprehension.
      • ACT science test: 35 minutes for 40 questions that measure students’ understanding and problem-solving skills in the realm of natural sciences.
      • ACT writing test: 40-minute written essay that will measure students' writing skills.

How many questions are on the ACT test?

There are 215 total questions on the ACT test. The ACT covers four academic areas and students have 175 minutes total to complete the test. For students who opt to take the ACT writing test, there will be a written essay (in addition to the standard ACT topics), which students will have 40 minutes to complete. For ACT prep, it’s wise to study the material that will be covered within each academic category and take practice tests to become comfortable with the format.

The English test has 75 questions that must be completed within 45 minutes. The math test has 60 questions with a 60-minute time limit. The reading test has 40 questions and 35 minutes total. The science test has 40 questions that must be completed in 35 minutes. Tutors may recommend taking the test more than once as part of the ACT prep training, with the goal of improving your overall score each time. Official ACT recommendations urge students to answer each question on test day, even if it is a guess, as there is no penalty for guessing.

What are the subjects on the ACT?

English, mathematics, reading, and science are the four main subjects on the ACT. Writing is an optional subject students can select when they register to take the test. The subjects were determined as a way to test the sum total of knowledge and comprehension that the students have accumulated up until the start of their senior year of high school. ACT prep breaks down each subject of the ACT test so the student understands what type of questions they will encounter and to provide them with strategies for answering questions. Doing well on the ACT is not only about academic smarts. Learning the nuances of taking a standardized test can greatly improve a student’s test scores. On the ACT, each of the four subjects is broken into subsections to test the students’ understanding in that area. The official ACT website provides free online ACT prep tools for each section, including English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing.
