Marissa C. says, "VMR Customs was on a long list of contractors that I had reached out to for our bathroom renovation. A few of the contractors never even got back to me with bids even after we took the time to schedule and meet with them to come look at the space. We originally wanted to just hire one contractor to do it all, but after so many poor experiences with other contractors we started booking each job separately. We finished plumbing, electrical, and a new subfloor before we finally found VMR Customs. The same day bid and fast communication was a huge shift from what we had experienced from others and ultimately why we chose to go with them. We hired VMR to finish our remodel including tub install, shower and floor tiling, vanity install, adding a recessed medicine cabinet, and finally floor and door trim to finish off the space. Our tiling specifically is what deterred some of the other contractors and tile businesses we reached out to because we were cutting 12x24 pieces to square and working with smaller, 5x5 squares for our shower area. VMR sent their tile guy out and he is arguably the best tiler in the PNW. The amount of cuts and intricacy involved didn’t even phase him. Our shower tiles varied in color tone and has a raw edge that he took great care to place strategically on the wall for a cohesive look. At a little over $100 a box this was a splurge area for us and we appreciated that they took the time to make it look perfect and talked over exactly what we envisioned before starting to lay anything. We’ve already recommended VMR to friends and will be hiring them for our future home jobs we have planned as well. Highly recommend!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does countertop installation cost?

The national average for countertop installation is $2,147, but this cost can fluctuate depending on the type of countertop you want. Countertops made out of granite, marble, quartz, laminate, soapstone and even recycled glass will all have different costs.

The color and patterns may also have an impact, particularly you choose a natural stone with rarer colors or patterns available. The size and type of finish all play a role, too. Keep in mind more customized edges, complex shapes and cutouts will add to the cost.

To understand how much your new counters will cost, talk to contractors and countertop installers near you. Request free estimates so you can properly budget for this project.

How long does countertop installation take?

Countertop installation generally takes a couple of days, though some companies say it could take less than one day and closer to a week. It all depends on the demand the pro is dealing with.

If it's a remodel job, then it will take time to remove the existing countertop. The pro will then need to make cutouts for things like sinks and electrical outlets. After shaping the countertop in their shop, they will bring it in — typically in several sections — and place it and seal it. After fitting sinks, outlets and appliances into the countertop, they will seal the seams.

When you're requesting price quotes from countertop specialists, ask them how long it will take to install your new counters.

What's the most durable countertop?

Countertops made out of natural stones — such as granite and quartz — are the most durable. These materials are nearly impervious to heat, knife cuts, scratching and staining.
