I highly recommend Cynthia and assure you will be extremely happy with her services. I left my 7 month old German Shepherd,Kobe, with her for 3 weeks. It was difficult to be away from him for so long but worth it. Kobe walks great on a leash now. He follows commands sit, stay, off, come, place, and down. He even sits and waits at the door nicely before being released to go through the doorway. Cynthia treats your dog as her own. While Kobe was in her care, she identified some stomach issues and changed his food, with my permission. As a result, Kobe's stomach issues improved. It was evident upon picking Kobe up, at the end of his 3 weeks of training, that Kobe had bonded with Cynthia. On pickup day, she spends the time needed for you to feel comfortable learning all the commands your dog has learned and teaches you how to walk with your dog correctly. Please choose Cynthia for your dog's training needs. You will be very satisfied with your pup's progress.

Judy from Pet Professionals has walked every dog I have ever owned (Rudy & Zoey (kennel mates), Sadie and now Cody). I trust Judy with the most important part of my life, my dogs. Not only has she walked them, but she has also given me training advice. Consistency with new pups is very important and her advice is priceless. She has been so flexible, if my schedule changes she adapts for me. My dogs have all loved her beyond belief. I am so fortunate to have found Pet Professionals, buy mostly I am lucky to have found Judy. She is not only the caretaker/walker of my dogs, she has also become a very close friend.

Brenda has been a life saver for us. After rescuing Chopper, we were pretty much "lost" on how to make him feel happy again. Brenda came to our lives with great insights, tools and advice. She is available 24/7 for any questions or concerns we might have - she listened to us and listened our dog. After three weeks of training and counseling, Chopper is a new dog, he is happy, self confident and not afraid anymore. Thank you Brenda for everything!

I feel I need to chime in on Kendra's innate ability with boarding animals. To say Kendra is good with pets is an understatement. Kendra goes the extra mile with each creature she comes in contact with; she has an animal rescue kit in her van just in case she comes across an animal in need! A few summers ago, I had a temporary job take me out of state for a month and couldn't take my cat with me. Frantically, I tried to think of a caregiver who would put up with my temperamental feline friend. My cat is not really a "people cat" and prefers not to be touched by anyone other than me; I was truly panicked about finding a place for her. Somehow my kitty was relaxed and at ease while purring and sitting on Kendra's lap only within a few short minutes of reaching the house (not something I have ever seen). Needless to say, all of my worries were put at ease immediately. If your loved one needs a place to stay, look no further! Kendra's compassion, openness and knowledge of dogs, cats, and other furry or feathered friends will amaze you.

Fabulous dog sitter! We have a 13 year old dog with anxiety issues. Our dog had never had anyone watch her except one sitter her whole life. Richard made her feel comfortable in our home for hours. We will definitely be using Richard again.

From the very start--namely, speed of her reply to Thumbtack search-- Allison has been prompt, efficient, reliable (as in answering of phone calls & texts or in appearance for appointments that were made): all in all, she is very professional in how she conducts her business! She is also affable & personable (without being too chatty) so that it is a pleasure to deal with her. Her ease at handling our very big dog (94 lbs) shows her competence & extensive experience with animals. She has shown herself to be both trustworthy & capable; and our dog loves her!!

Marilee did a great job taking care of Frankie and keeping us updated on how she was doing while we were away on our first trip without her. The pictures and notes that Marilee sent gave us peace of mind that allowed us to enjoy our vacation! When we returned home we found a dog that was more relaxed that before we left - nice work! We would definitely use Sit & Stay again and will refer friends that need the same service.

I broke my leg a while back and have been unable to get my very active dog out for exercise. I found out about Linda on this website and have been extremely happy with her abilities. Linda is one of the friendliest people I have ever met and absolutely loves dogs. She has been walking my dog for almost 2 months now and my dog worships her. He anxiously awaits her arrival on those special days and they always have great walks. She is also quick to note when he wants to play and gladly accommodates him. I would highly recommend Linda for anyone who is interested in this type of service.

Kristin has been my dog walker on two separate occasions each for a period of 2-3 months, she has very special way with dogs having them obey her with a gentle hand. My dog goes absolutely ballistic joy when Kristin arrives, Kristin is on time and often stays longer to help with a specific behavior we are trying to teach. She carries water and all sorts of things she made me during the walk. You could have a better person to trust with your pet.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

      • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
      • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
      • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
      • What are your different walk routes?
      • When will you pick up and drop off?
      • How will we communicate?
      • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
      • What’s your cancellation policy?
      • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
      • How and how often do I pay you?
      • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
