In 2004 I was referred to Tom from a friend who got tired of helping me with my math homework. If it wasn't for Tom I wouldn't have passed High School Calculus. He helped me gain a solid foundation in Math, and his passion for the Science was one of my main inspirations in pursuing a Mathematics degree while in College. I wouldn't have the career (which is heavily math intensive) I have today if I hadn't spent the time I did learning from him. He is an absolute professional, and I've recommended him to friends and family who can attest to his excellent work as a tutor.

Im 14 years old and I have mrs dickerson as my algebra teacher. I came in at a D and the first test I had after he had helped me for about a month I got a high B. It's really easy to ask him questions and the way he explains a.problem or question is very clear to understand. The enviornment is really relaxed. I didnt want a tutor but im glad that hes the one I got.

Our tutor is awesome and meets us in person. The company is organized, reasonably priced, and flexible. There's no long-term commitment and we were matched with a tutor who could assist with multiple subjects. Student Circle is outstanding.

I’ve known Tyler more than 13 years; we were colleagues at Centennial Park School, and I had the privilege of observing and collaborating with him as he provided outstanding services to students of all ages, abilities and temperaments. When I left to start my own business last year, I invited Tyler to join me, even on a part-time basis, and the response from the mother of a student he tutored in AP Physics says it all. She texted after their first meeting, “Tyler is PERFECT.” The student, who had been failing the class, went on to get a B on the final exam, and attributes his success entirely to the work they did together. Tyler has a particular gift for making math and science accessible, and for allaying the fear that often accompanies these subjects. I recommend him most highly.

Dawnella has done a great job of bringing our son up to speed in Algebra. He has gained confidence in the areas where he was struggling before and enjoys math more now that he has a better understanding of the subject. We highly recommend Dawnella as a tutor!

Scientia est potentia means knowledge is power. Because of my wide range of interests, I am able to tutor in the following subjects: * any math up to Calculus 2 * any K-12 science (almost anything that ends with "ology") * K-12 geography * K-12 history (depending on the subject whether WWII, civil war, and American revolution as I am especially well read) * reading and writing to a college level with emphasis in technical writing * almost any mechanical engineering subject * basic circuits * basic computer programming * computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. I can tutor on those listed and many other subjects. If you are interested, let me know. My rates are extremely affordable for my level of expertise. I'm just trying to do something useful with my time and make a little money with which to spoil my wife and child.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

    • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
