First, Fernando was very quick to respond. I ended texting him pictures and short video clips of our yard for an estimate. He reviewed those and gave me an extremely fair estimate. He then said he could come by the very next day, at first I thought this was to just look at our yard in person because the people who previously lived in our house did nothing to clean up the yard from the fall before they moved out, so there was a lot of clean up (lost of leaves) needed, bushes and shrubs trimmed etc. When he got to my houe he walked through the yard with me and he went over with me all the different types of bushes/ plants/shrubs/ trees that were in our yard and how to care for them (he didn't need to do that). He then said ok I am gonna get started, here I thought he was just doing a walk thru but he was ready to get the job done. To say he did an OUTSTANDING job is an understatement. He made what looked like a completly trashy yard to a beautiflly manicured yard. I HIGHLY recommend hiring him for any of your landsaping/yard clean up needs. Also, I think it is really important to mention that he did not try and sell me on coming every week or anything like that. He was very honest and said to contact him mid-summer to come and do a small clean up meaning just trimming the bushes that need it and some other small things. If you are looking for someone who is goign to be honest and fair with pricing then you need to hire Fernando! Excellent customer sercvice and work!!

Juan and his brother did an excellent job of trimming my pinion oak tree. They listened carefully to what I wanted them to do, carried it out efficiently and cleaned up the mess afterwards. I'm very pleased and am asking them to come back to take care of my willow tree after I kill the yellow jackets that live in the ground under that tree.

Lidiya was great! She did a wonderful job cleaning our 2800 sq ft house top to bottom in one day. She was very patient when our movers hadn't finished when I thought they would and she had to work around them and even wait for the washer/dryer to be removed. Excellent work!

Couldn't of asked for a more efficient and professional crew. They showed up on time, ready to go. Within just over an hour had the tree on the ground and cut into rounds to stack. I specified to just have the tree dropped and i would do the clean up but they still helped with clearing and loading of the branches which was awesome. Highly recommend McKenzie Tree Care to anyone who asks. Thank you for the great work guys!

AllSeasons Trimming did an excellent job pruning the tree in my front yard. They have a flexible schedule to accommodate their customers’ time lines, and they are very reasonably priced. The top of the tree was rotted because of standing water. Tim examined it, took a picture of it for me, trimmed it, and applied tree seal. He also cut the tree trimmings for firewood (so they would fit in my wood stove) and stacked it for me in my back yard. I would definitely recommend them.

Unfortunately we did not get to follow through with Justin of J&J but our experience was still positive. Justin was prompt and on time for the quoting process and worked with our needs and concerns in mind. After assessing the tree work two quotes were made, one to bring down the the trees with full clean up or a lesser quote if we wanted to do the clean up. Justin then made a follow up call to adjust the quotes based on a concern for my family and homes safety. After accepting the quote there was a bit of confusion on the start date but Justin ultimately adjusted that schedule to meet our initial expectations. The trees proved to be too dangerous to climb which is one of J&J's expert services. Justin is currently helping me find alternate services that utilize boom trucks to work on trees in this condition. Again a tribute to his desire to provide good customer service. I am sure to call Justin for our future pruning needs.

They moved two heavy fireproof filing cabinets for us, one of which had to go up a staircase to the 2nd floor, and got the job done fast, just as we asked! Very friendly and professional and gave us a good price! While here, they even gave us great bid on some future tree work they could do for us! I'd definitely give them a call again!

I hired Rafeal to do a 40ft fence in my backyard. His bid came in at half the nearest competitor. I must admit I was nervous I know how to build it myself but am injured. I watched him build it in a day and a half it was done professionally. At this point I asked Mr. Amoroso if he would work on my roof and all the trees. I will say this, before you pay double give this young man a chance you will be impressed with how hard he works for a fair price. He also went the extra mile by cleaning around his work areas and paying attention to detail.

Simonson Tree Service did an excellent job in removing the trees that were damaged from the ice storm. He was timely, his crew worked hard, and he completed the job within the quoted price which was reasonable. They also did a great job of cleaning up afterward. I would use Simonson Tree Service again in the future.

We have been so pleased with Brian's work ethic and responsiveness to our needs. He did a fantastic job and showed up with a smile on his face. He truly loves what he does and it shows in his work. He took down four trees for us. He even split the wood and stacked it! He left the place clean and we will be using him again for our trimming needs as well. It was nice to work with professional. On time to work, hard worker and great value. Who could ask for more?

Godoy's tree trimming did a fairly dangerous and unusual tree removal for my wife and I in a very professional and timely manner. Their price was fair and they did more than expected. They worked for us on short notice and (I found out later) while they were on vacation! Great work and friendly people. I'd hire them again in a minute.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

    • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
    • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
