Andrea S. says, "When i first found Pedro UDY Construction on Thumbtack, id just come through a hard experiance I have worked with many different contractors, over the last 2 decades, from some who where a bit more expensive to friends dads who just did work on the side to help me out- Id never had a problem! But JUST before finding Pedro id had a major problem- A huge maintenance job (full siding replacement) that another contractor Id hired, did not install the product correctly So i had water pouring into my house in certain places- & id just had an inspection done that said id need to have the entire job redone! It was at this point, that i found Pedro on Thumbtack- I was desperate to begin putting my home back together again, as many rooms had to be ripped down to the studs, because of mold- to remediate the areas. And worse, the back wall of my dining room & my french door area, was leaking now, so badly, that the interior wall was quickly disintegrating, right before my eyes! I was scared to have had such a terrible experiance after never having experienced something like this before, in all my business dealings. So initially i was really carrying some trust issues. I recall that first night looking at contracters on Thumbtack, feeling so unsure, & then i came across Pedros company & began reading his previous customers reviews. Consistently, i noticed people saying several of the same things about Pedro & his work. 1. They commonly spoke of how quickly he responded & came to the jobsite to get them a bid 2. How afforadable he was, but at the same time they were expressing being very happy with his work. In some cases, theyd even gone on to have more work done than initially expected- just because they were so pleased with the work he was doing. & 3 They commonly mentioned how kind he was & that you could see he really cared about making his customers happy- He had a good amount of reviews! And i read through them all! I dont recall finding anything less than happy satisfied customers! One even saying he was now referring Pedro onto his sister! I remember thinking well, i definatley want to contact him, but should probably reach out to at least 2-3 contractors, just to do my due diligence- I think i might have halfheartedly reached out to one other contracter besides Pedro? But i just couldn't get my mind off all his positive reviews! After what id just been through, Pedro, if he truly was the way customers reported, sounded like the breath of fresh air, that could possibly get me through this very difficult situation id found myself in. I reached out to Pedro, explaining my house was literally in pieces & i wasn't even able to live there Exsctly as people had said, Pedro responded almost immediately! This was during the big ice/winter storm we had, but still Pedro showed up the next day! Only the ice had prevented my arrival, so he returned the next day again. Upon meeting Pedro & telling him what id just experienced - i was met with such empathy & kind understanding (of my trust issues!) that he took extra time to see how id feel most comfortable proceeding on the job. I decided id like to start with one room at a time, & just start knocking them out- Pedro had an employee there the next day. Pedro always went out of his way, to check in with me personally, every day. To make sure i was comfortable, happy & had no concerns- I honestly think he's the nicest contractor ive ever worked with. Eventually that back wall door area, met a point of no return It was so bad black mold was growing quickly & it was wet inside, despite my running an industrial dehumidifier day & night So wet now, that i could barely keep the plastic up on the walls to contain the new mold contamination. Pedro & his guys went out of their way- to do whatever was needed- At this point we just decided to tarp the entire backside of the house while we awaited the new french doors arrival. When home depot let me know the doors id orderd before even meeting Pedro, had arrived, he immediatly let me know hed pick them up & bring them over- I was just consistently so impressed with the time care & effort he put into this job He felt like he was taking care of my situation, like i was a family member or sister. Thats the level of attention & care, i felt from Pedro- Within another week i had my official siding report in hand & Pedro had his employees ready that would be needed to install the new French doors & fix/replace the siding on that wall. And the job was started- They worked through the weekend until it was done to perfection- (We found the cause of the leak during this phase! Under my new siding near the bottom of the wall on the right side of the french doors we found a gap about a foot high, where under the siding there was no moisture barrier, & no sheeting! Shocking! But totally explained the amounts of water that had been coming through! In addition it was found, the siding contractor had used the wrong kind of moisture barrier for the product siding, & that alone voids product warranty) After Pedros team was done with my new french doors & had installed the new moisture barrier & siding, i could finally say i had one wall of my home sided correctly & safe from future damage! I felt so grateful to Pedro & his team for this outstanding work! It was immediatley put to the test, as we had a massive downpour the day after it was finished- And its been perfect! But Pedro still went out of his way to make sure i understood he personally warrantied all of his work & if ever an issue- call him & he would be there! I have no doubts if/when i need to call Pedro he will respond swiftly & professionally- It turned out all of his positive reviews, were absolutely accurate! And i learned from my own experiance, they were well earned! I can honestly say, im not sure how i would have made it through that very scary time, without having had Pedros help! I will never forget it & will always be so grateful! In me, Pedro will always have a lifelong customer & supporter of his business. I plan on calling him with any jobs that arise, big or small & can confidently recommend Pedro to others, because of how wonderful he always was! Thank you Pedro! You are such a kind caring soul! And above all, a really hard worker who CARES about the quality of the work you do. Thats not always easy to find anymore! So you have earned all of my respect & gratitude! I wish you & the future of your business all the very best, as you truly do work so hard! Take care my friend & blessings to you & your beautiful family! 🙏🏻 Photos show 1. the previous contractors serious siding defect- that was rapidly damaging my home- a large gap that water was pouring in through, before Pedros team fixed it. 2. All new sheetrock up in my dining room! Progress! Yay! 3. The new French Doors, just installed 4. & 5. Beautiful Herringbone LVP flooring installed in my upstairs bedroom, Love these!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

What does a finish carpenter charge per hour?

On average, finish carpenters charge $60 per hour. However, this hourly rate will vary depending on where you live, the scope of the project and other factors. For a more accurate estimate, ask for price quotes from at least three finish carpenters in your area.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.
