Sarah and Therese (sp?) did an amazing job helping me reach my organizational goals yesterday! They exceeded my expectations and offered some great suggestions for furniture placement, as well as "homework" to do, until our next project upstairs (the master closet--aka: The Bane of My Existence). I highly recommend Revivify Interiors PCX to anyone who wants down to earth help and results!! :)

My fiancé and I are very satisfied with the interior design help we received from 13 Design Lane Interiors. Laura Sabo was a pleasure to work with. She listened and was very prompt in responding to everything. Our living room and dining room were drab and extremely outdated spaces that we were not proud of. As a couple, we just couldn't seem to put our heads together to re-do the living room on our own, so we sought outside help from a professional. After researching online for a professional and interviewing several for the job, we hired Laura Sabo with 13 Design Lane Interiors. Laura helped us with visioning, color scheme, a layout, and the purchasing of all the furniture. She did a ton of research to help us find what we were wanting to see in our living room and dining room. The challenge here for us (on our own/without help)was that this was a big rectangular room which was too challenging for us to blend and balance within the framework of a tradition design theme. With Laura's aid, we were able to accomplish that by creating a well balanced space with coordinating colors, shapes, a focal points. With her help, we purchased an antique red entertainment center, an off-white 3 person sofa, over stuffed chair with ottoman, two swivel chairs, and a coffee table and adorable round side pedestal table. One of our main objectives was to keep our expensive area rug, so Laura helped us to build from it. Now the living room is gorgeous! We also purchased a new area rug for the dining room and chandelier for over the dining room table. The entire rectangular room comprising the living room and dining room is now in harmony. We are looking forward to hosting our second guest event, Thanksgiving, in our home that we are proud of. Laura really helped us stay motivated and on track. My fiancé and I were just not equipped to do that on our own. I highly recommend the services of Laura Sabo with 13 Design Lane Interiors. She is affordable and is careful with her customer's budget constraints. If you want somebody that will pay attention to what you want, hire Laura! Sincerely, Laura

When I hired Sharon Hocking to come in and do a complete Interior Design of our Living and Dinning Rooms I had no idea just how wonderful this experience would be. Sharon was excellent to work with and listened to all of my concerns, ideas and suggestions. She was very communicative and prompt when we would set up meetings. Her attention to detail is beyond anything else I could have done on my own. Because I still work full time Sharon was able to do all of the leg work and then some. The next time I get ready to do some more decorating in my home Sharon will be the first and only Interior Designer that I will hire.

As soon as he saw it, John had ideas for replacing our carport with a better engineered and more attractive design. It was weighing on the house roof and there was leaking over the entry. He was prompt, direct and informative, and supplied a schedule. His workers were pleasant and left things neat, removing old nails from the driveway every day. Any delays came with an explanation. The end result is a vast improvement, with fewer posts and a higher ceiling

First and foremost she is wonderful! I found Ashley through her Etsy page where I bought one of her fabulous pieces. I'm one of those people that knows what they like but can't quite figure out how to put it all together. I saw on her page that she also does interior design and because of what she offers in her store I thought she would be really helpful in helping me discover my style. And she did! She worked within the furniture/decorative pieces I already had and also helped me find new features for my room. It all came together great and is exactly what I wanted. She was very collaborative in that she worked with me on what I liked/didn't like, taking inspiration from what I already owned and finding new, unique pieces that she thought would work well in the space. I couldn't be happier! And I'll definitely be recruiting her again soon and keeping an eye on her Etsy page for new finds!

Before contacting Design Allure my family had lived in our home for 9 years, during initial construction all of the rooms were revamped with cabinets/counters/trim but the home theater room and bathroom were to be the main entertaining part of our home. As an engineer with a young family such big plans for the space were never completed. The space has so much opportunity but I found it difficult to put a vision of the space into motion. Design Allure came in and photographed/ measured the space, met with me on what important key parts of the room I wanted to stay the same and quickly picked up on the style I was looking for (it turned out to be called transitional). Without changing thestructural floorplan, Irene was able to open up the space and make it more inviting then I could have ever imagined. Thanks Design Allure! I now have the inspiration and a cohesive virtual model that I can work with to begin building my dream theater.

Wanted to get my studio designed without breaking that bank. Misty helped narrow down the requirement and the budget. She was helpful in picking up the furniture and design layout. The only concern is the time taken in getting all the pieces of furniture. I was hoping that it could be done in one shot but since there were a few custom pieces, delay was unavoidable. Highly recommend Misty.

Estelaz Interior Designed redecorated my kitchen, living and dining room. I consider myself skeptical and hard to please as I’m myself a perfectionist however, after sitting with her for the first 15 minutes I recognized she knew what she was doing to the point that I trusted her enough to pick the curtains for the dining room! It seemed she understood exactly what we liked! Gentle, not pushy at all and moreover, very patient and calm to deal with my wife and I who are very hard to arrive to a middle point without fussing when it’s about moving things around the house. Ivonne did not give up on us, but rather knew how to use and combine our different approaches, rapidly grasping on our family style and functionality needs to create the perfect climate for our home. One of her first questions was, “how do you want to feel when you step in to the kitchen”, I never thought feelings would have such an important account in decoration. Very professional, great touch and impeccable finish. I only have good things to say about Estelaz Interior Design work.

Working with Jay was an excellent experience, from start to finish. Jay called us to discuss what we liked and didn't like in terms of design before we even moved to Portland, so he was able to get right on the project as soon as we arrived. Once he knew our likes and dislikes, he came to view and measure the space he had to work with. Then he toured and helped us shop at many stores that were within our budget, and helped design and put together a wonderful apartment! His eye for design, detail, texture, and color is amazing! Using our feedback and input, he was able to integrate furniture or decorative items, while maintaining a high level of taste as well as function. The entire space is thoughtfully put together, comfortable, and custom. Our favorite piece was one he worked on himself- a 1950s wooden desk he transformed into a gorgeous mid-century modern entertainment center. We now have a one-of-a-kind piece that was made with our budget in mind. Jay's enthusiasm for his work was evident in his commitment to the project. His communication was always thorough and reliable. We really appreciated that he respected our budget and never pushed for items that didn't make sense in our apartment. We weren't sure what to expect from working with an interior designer, but Jay made the experience interesting and fun! We could not have been happier with the entire process, thanks to Jetset Designs.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
