Chris, my instructor for violin lessons, is great! It is clear he typically works with children, but is personable and, as an adult, has escalated the learning process to save time. I fully intend to continue getting lessons through Chris, and the owner (Brian I believe), was very responsive to emails.

I highly recommend Tim Smith as a teacher in many areas of music. I am so elated to be taking cello lessons with this fine teacher! Tim is multi-talented and able to challenge me through every level of musical growth. I appreciate his individual teaching style which allows each student to progress at their own personal rate. He is flexible and accommodating with lesson times and his rates are right in line with the local teaching market.

I took cello lessons with Elisa for a few years and played in a group of student, stringed musicians led by her for a few more. She is very good at what she does. She is also very kind. Her lessons are affordable (especially important for a broke college student like me), and her schedule flexible for the most part.

Alexis is an amazing mentor. Our 7yr old daughter blossomed around Alexis. Alexis taught our daughter about the core of the violin and reading music. They would spend time doing equations with the music notes. Alexis is very balanced with her teaching. She is firm yet offers a gentle encouraging touch. We miss her sooooo very much! She truly is a gem :)

Bryce has been teaching my son violin for the past year and a half and we've really loved working with him. He does an amazing job of fostering music appreciation in children, and his passion for music really shines through in his teaching and his own performance. He has a gentle, enthusiastic, and effective approach to teaching. My son enjoys coming to see him every week, and frankly, I think he's pretty great too! We hope to continue lessons with Bryce for a long time to come!

I love the way he presented info to my daughter. Made things relatable. He did exactly what i hoped he would. Corrected her form right away and gave her ideas to build on until the next lesson. She's excited to play her instrument again!

Collin taught my son cello from the very start. He was encouraging, patient, and taught with a sense of humor. My son learned how to hone skills and how to truly work at something. He has since switched to a different instrument, but the foundation that Collin provided for him has given him the basis for success. From how to practice to how to read music to how to get through frustration, Collin was absolutely terrific. From a practical standpoint, Collin had a flexible schedule and was completely reliable when it came to lessons, which is not always the case with busy musicians. My son loved his cello lessons, and I loved seeing the growing love for music that blossomed in him.

      About

Are you interested in learning Sonatas? Concertos? Suzuki? I am a Master's Level graduate of the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, Germany, having played in the Boise Philharmonic in Idaho before coming to Oregon. I am now a part-time teacher and play in two Salem Orchestras as well, being principal of the Salem Pops cello section. Private students of mine in the past ten years have gone on to perform with traveling orchestras and/or win scholarship money for college. I often accompany my own students since I was a semi-professional accompanist in college. The first lesson is free and I will explain my rates in a more detailed manner. Please call for location, directions, and schedule availability.

How hard is it to learn to play the cello?

Taking cello lessons can be a rewarding experience for students young and old. The rich sound of the cello is well-loved in classical music and is found in all genres of contemporary music from modern folk to rock. As with any instrument, how hard it is to learn to play cello depends on the practice and dedication you put into it. It’s true that some people are naturally more adept at learning instruments than others, but with lessons and a daily commitment, you too can learn to play the cello.

Cello lessons can be a smart investment, especially for new players.
