After receiving four quotes to repair our furnace via Thumbtack. I called Precision Air LLC and spoke with Paul and he offered a $95 rate if he could fix it without parts. He diagnosed what was wrong and fixed the furnace for the $95 amount. Paul was respectful, knowledgeable, and very honest. I highly recommend this company. You will get a fair and transparent quote and expert service. Our family is grateful during this current cold period. I am very satisfied and will be a returning customer.

Jacob was a pleasure to work with. He and his assistant spent three days replacing all of our ductwork for our furnace in our 1800 square foot house. We decided to move our furnace and relocate the ducts as part of our basement remodel, to give us more space and better headroom. Jacob worked with us around our plans, came up with creative solutions to give us the layout we wanted, cleaned up and hauled away the old ducting and scrap, and even some garbage we had from other house projects. If we ever need HVAC work done again, or a friend needs a recommendation, I will gladly use Jacob again.

Great experience. Tech did maintenance and replaced the filters. He did forget to turn the furnace back on, but was able to provide directions so my husband to get up into the area and turn it on.

Got a quick response from Robert of Revival to replace my furnace and unlike some other contractors someone actually showed up to go over the job details. After getting other estimates we chose Revival because of the competitive price for a furnace with higher output than others were offering. On installation day Robert arrived on time and replaced the furnace as quickly as promised. There have been no problems with the installation or furnace. THANK YOU Revival for a fast installation and your professionalism.

Nikolay & his crew are the best! Came to bid the project (on time), scheduled a start date, actually started & completed the 3 day installation removing the old beast of a furnace/ductwork etc and installed a new furnace/ductwork/A/C unit on time just like he said they would. If I seem shocked its because all the other contractors I've used during this remodel have been late, delays, over budget, just overall a disappointment...but Impact Heating & Cooling is the exception! I'm so so happy. And he even took an extra 20minutes to help me program my thermostat, filled out my rebates/went over warranties etc. Thanks again! ~Sara

Don was great. Very communicative about what he's doing, when he's doing it and, as an added bonus, how it all works. I really appreciated that he coordinated much of the process with NW Natural. And then there were little things, like adding a light in the furnace room or offering to fix the broken attic opening where the furnace vents. All around, a great experience where I didn't have to worry about anything.

I originally had an appt for 3:00 so made arrangements to leave work early… By 4:30 I had not heard anything so called and got the answering service. Almost ½ hour later I recd a call from the technician to let me know he would be on his way (just finishing another job) and shortly after that, another call from who I assume to be the owner or manager. I completely understand that circumstances force changes in a person’s schedule but had I received a phone call, I would likely have planned my day differently. In the end, the technician arrived and in short order had my furnace back in working condition and informed me that he had been instructed to make an adjustment to my bill. I had been assured that the issue of not being notified would be looked into and indeed I did get an email acknowledging responsibility for the failure to communicate (rare in this day and age). All in all, I would recommend Morrison Heating and Cooling, would use them again, and would recommend them to others. I appreciated the immediate response in providing a quote so quickly once I posted my need on Thumbtack. They treated me fairly and the technician showed me that part that needed to be replaced and had it available on his van. This was my second experience with Thumbtack and I will use it over and over again.

By far the best deal around. Igor gave me several different options to choose from and helped me pick the best furnace and A/C for my situation. He ended up saving me a lot of money compared to what other big name companies quoted. Professional service and installation, couldn’t be happier!!!!

Marc was great. Showed up right on time. I had forgotten to tell him that I live in the studio in the back, and he called rather than just leaving. He got my furnace working again in under an hour, and gave me candid advice on the expected lifetime (it's old) without any pressure to act now. He was pleasant and respectful. Sure I'd call him again if I needed service.

Ben Fish provided our inspection/bid and was dead on the money with what could improve our house's energy efficiency - and make our upstairs bedrooms livable in the summer heat. He was knowledgeable - and both found (and fixed) a natural gas leak he stumbled on (loose nut on the fitting to our furnace) and identified asbestos tape/wrap on some of our ductwork and register boots. While he couldn't be certain - he was confident it was asbestos (it was) and that we should remove it before doing any AC/ductwork with Revival (we did). Revival was not the cheapest bid - but the quality of the work speaks for itself. I am comfortable that we got the best quality work that we could've - and they really surpassed our expectations. When Ben arrived the day of the work due to start - he mentioned that our bathroom fan vent wasn't connected (which we knew) and offered to add a vent into the project for free since they'd be cutting roof sections for the mushroom vents anyway! I installed a new bathroom fan the next weekend - and we're so thrilled they did that for us. They even connected a 4'' duct and left it for me to connect once I had the new fan installed. The crews were both fast, courteous, and skilled. They communicated with me every step of the way - and made judgment calls which were accurate and sensible. The project took longer than anticipated (by a day and a half) - but I'd happily take that over rushing through the work. They sealed every joint - and greatly improved the efficiency of our existing air handler and ductwork - and the new ducts and boots were installed with great precision. The fact they could even install the AC coils is a miracle - we had to drop the whole furnace and redesign the air intake to accommodate it with the 6' 3'' ceilings. We're totally overjoyed with the work that was done - and would recommend revival in a heartbeat.

I hired 2 other techs before finding Phil on thumbtack. The other 2 techs misdiagnosed my furnace, i have feeling it was on purpose so they could repair more parts. Phil on the other hand explained it in detail and went out his way to make sure i was back on track. He also charged me less then what he quoted me after he finished. He was honest, didn't try to gouge me and knows what hes doing. I will be sure to call him in future for my furnace needs.

Jantsen did a great job. I had an old gas furnace that needed to be replaced. Jantsen not only gave me the lowest bid, but he installed a new unit for me within days of contacting him. He thoroughly explained everything that needed to be done and the workmanship was great as well. Would definitely hire again.

We installed a Mini Split Ductless Heat system and we needed the lines vacuumed out. We called several HVAC companies and got quoted high rates and could be up to 3 weeks before we could get someone out to help us,no one wanted to help us. We found Supermen on Craigslist and sent a message at about 7pm, they responded quickly and gave us a quote. We called the next day when they opened up and they were able to schedule us for the next day after that. The customer service was excellent and the technician (Oscar) was very professional and helpful in making sure we could get our system up and running even though it was not there system. I would recommend this company to my friends and family. We will be calling when we need maintenance work done. Thank You

My wife and I decided to get air conditioning early summer when she was pregnant. We got a quote, all labor and installation done within days. All done very well, and at an amazing cost. We have had no problems with the system since we've had it. I highly recommend this company to anyone!

RA Schwartz has done both service work and a complete installation for us, and we're very pleased. Their pricing is good, they do good work, and then they clean up after themselves (when they finished the installation the area looked as good or better than it had before, both inside and out). I have recommended them to several friends who have also had very good experiences with them. They were there when they said they would be, they were capable and honest (plus, they are just plain nice folks). I strongly recommend them for your consideration for either service or installation work!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

        • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
        • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
        • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
        • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
        • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
        • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
        • Cleaning and oiling the blower
        • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
        • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
        • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

        • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
        • The temperature cannot be regulated.
        • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
        • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
        • The thermostat isn’t working.
        • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
