It's hard to find the right piano teacher. But when I found Emily I knew I needed to look no further. I have been taking piano lessons on and off 20 years and within the first few lessons she taught me elements of theory and artistry that I had never seen from a teacher. She is patient, thoughtful and an expert in her craft. She listens and selects pieces that are inspirational to my taste and builds a curriculum to my skill level (intermediate) and pushes me just enough to help me feel confident while still learning new skills.
I sent Phil Greek an accappella song that I wrote and had in my mind for many days. He listened to it and in the next day he sent me back a complete piano structure for my song, we talked about ideas that could make my song sound better. When I went to the studio we already has the idea of what we were doing, and took just a couple of hours to record a good sample a my song and also thought about new songs and ideas for some other pieces. Phil is very professional and creative. He would keep telling you new ideas for any type of music. I am willing to keep working in my songs with him, the only bad point is that I live far from the studio, but it is worth the driving.
I have been taking singing lessons with Alisdair and he is great! I've made significant progress in my singing, and his teaching technique is extremely effective, and is different to other vocal coaching I've received in the past. He is reliable, on-time, and was willing to start lessons right away.
Amazing teacher and amazing woman. Singing lessons with Sofia were an amazing journey - to vocal and personal freedom. The teaching method Sofia uses was a revolution, changing almost all I was taught about singin so far - and it brought wonderful, unexpected results! If you are lucky enough to have a chance to learn from her - wow!
Kris is a truly wonderful teacher. I had zero musical experience when I started my piano lessons. He explains things in an understandable and approachable way, answers all of my questions and is super pleasant to work with. I could not be happier with my lessons and would highly recommend Kris to anyone looking for a teacher.
I started taking his piano lessons only about a month ago, but it''s been such a great joy to work with him. He constantly assesses my weaknesses and strengths, and plans my lessons accordingly. He also listens carefully to what I like and what I want to do, too. I live a bit far from his studio, but it's totally worth it. I highly recommend him!
When we arrived for the initial consultation for singing lessons and my daughter saw the piano, she asked if she could take piano lessons first. So, we're now taking piano lessons from Bonnie. I find her to work very well with kids, my daughter is 8, and my daughter likes her and is happy too. She explains things clearly, gives praise when earned, and is helpful and pleasant to work with.
My son is learning so much more than the basics of piano from Shannon and developing the love of music and creativity besides just playing notes. He's 8 and just starting lessons.
My 10 year old son started taking piano lessons with Deanna Maio at Confident Voice Studios a couple of months ago, and she has done a terrific job connecting with him and helping him advance his piano practice. We highly recommend Deanna!
Helen, was AMAZING, she taught my 6 yr daughter her first piano lesson. We were going to try out a few different teachers, but after meeting her, I have no interest going anywhere else. Thank you for being so friendly and so talented! <3 A few things that were important to me were, 1. She could connect with my 6 year old. 2. That she could teach syllabus. 3. That she has opportunities for her students to perform during the year. She met all three of those. :)
Hired off of thumb tack, Nyssa is a good person with patience and knowledge that seems to be good for any age! This makes for a good time learning piano. Hire her! :)
Today was my first day working with Darin, and I must say I was more than impressed by his knowledge in music, skills in pedagogy, and his overall passion and enthusiasm for music and teaching! I could truly sense his excitement for me to learn and how much he cared to provide me with all the resources needed for me to succeed. He is not only an excellent pianist, but truly has incredible talent and knowledge in teaching. He truly spends his time generously in teaching and makes the learning experience so exciting. Darin spend extra time outside of the lesson planning out the lesson and then typing up all the things we covered in the lesson so I would have a summary and point of reference. I highly recommend him and am looking forward to working with him as my teacher!
My son enjoyed having his piano lesson with geoff he said he is a great teach and cant wait to have another lesson
Kelsey is an amazing teacher, the best I've had by far! She is so encouraging and supportive of her students. I have learned more from her than any other teacher. I've learned all my technique from her and would not be the level I am at today without her amazing coaching! Any student interested in singing or piano would be so lucky to have Kelsey as a teacher!
Marcy has been a phenomenal teacher. I am an adult learner just starting on the piano and have been taking lessons from her for 6 months now. Marcy is very patient makes you feel very comfortable about being a beginner. She keeps the lessons interesting, engaging and relevant to your aspirations. She is very knowledgeable about music and about teaching piano. She includes as little or as much music theory as you want. Give her a call. You won't be disappointed. Highly recommended!!
I took cello lessons with Elisa for a few years and played in a group of student, stringed musicians led by her for a few more. She is very good at what she does. She is also very kind. Her lessons are affordable (especially important for a broke college student like me), and her schedule flexible for the most part.
Tom has been teaching piano to my kids (aged 10 and 12) and me for two and a half years. We all love him. All three of us have come a long way in our abilities to play piano and read music in what feels like a short time. Tom is very knowledgeable, able to answer questions on the fly and create lesson plans that keep us challenged and engaged. He is great with the kids and is all-around very friendly and reliable. The kids have played music at school and at recitals with great self-confidence, and I believe learning an instrument has been a huge lesson in achieving long-term goals for all of us. More recently, Tom has been teaching my youngest (7) the drums and is able to tailor lessons to all of our varying attention spans and abilities. I can’t give him enough praise.
Liz is the kind of teacher I yearned for when I was taking music lessons as a child. She makes it possible to succeed by her encouragement, high expectations and the fact that she breaks each task down into manageable pieces. My 9 year-old daughter has been taking lessons from Liz for almost 5 years. During that time, she has grown so much in her love of music, her poise in performing and in her work ethic. My almost 7 year-old son has been taking lessons for 2 years. He is a bouncy, energetic boy and it took him a while to learn to pay attention to detail. Now he is so proud of himself that he can memorize music carefully and not have to correct mistakes later. My husband and I chose the Suzuki method because it trains the musical ear and focuses on developing good technique. We chose Liz because we knew several of her students and has seen their fabulous growth. We also really like the Group lessons (which many other teachers do not offer). They provide a chance to become comfortable with performing and the games make learning theory fun. Group also helps the families at Studio 88 be a chose-knit group. The students become friends and encourage each other. If you choose Liz as your piano teacher, she will expect you to practice with your child on a daily basis. She will give you a list of tasks to complete during the week. She will expect you to take notes during lessons. Her lessons continue year-round (with breaks for the major holidays). If you want to drop your child off at lessons and let your child practice by him/her self, then you should look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you are looking for the highest quality piano teacher who is willing to work extremely hard to turn your child into a topnotch musician, Liz is the teacher for you.
My son has been taking piano lessons with Ryan for a year, my son is excited to go each week and has learned so much!!! Ryan responds to questions quickly & is willing to work with our ever changing schedule.
Holly taught my children how to play the piano. She was very patient, thorough, and knowledgeable. She related so well with my kids that they continue to love playing the piano to this day, and they still say she was the best teacher they’ve ever had.

I'm Doc Fleetwood, and I teach guitar, music theory, jazz, and music concepts and philosophy. I focus on my specialty: fingerstyle jazz, covering blues, and folk with some instruction in country, bluegrass, classical, pop, and rock guitar. I also teach skills and concepts of leading church and small group worship with guitar, and of playing as a member of a worship team. My Teaching Background: It's been my privilege to teach countless students for over 38 years. I am the senior guitar teacher at Uptown Music in Keizer, Oregon, having enjoyed a teaching relationship with the store for more than 20 years. A number of the current and past guitar teachers at Uptown Music were originally my students who have gone on to become excellent teachers themselves. With the obligatory introductory lessons, exposure, and apprenticeship to colleagues in various ensembles, 40 years playing, and 35 years of teaching experience, a tremendous amount of self-instruction and research, I offer a vast perspective of playing and performing experiences to share with my students. Performance Background: I have played in various ensembles and solo endeavors for over 40 years. I currently play in the unique violin, guitar, and trumpet jazz trio "Kilde, Fleetwood, and La Freniere" in the vocal and guitar duo BJAZZ, and various solo and sideman engagements. My Teaching Philosophy: I practice what I call "prescriptive teaching". The purpose is to determine your interests, background and learning style and build lessons that provide you with the tools and guidance to become the musician you want to be. I constantly remind my students that I can't magically turn someone into a guitarist in half to 1 hour a week, but I do provide the tools and guidance for them to turn themselves into the musician they are destined to be. I love introducing youngsters to the joy of making music and helping adults realize that lifelong dream of making music. Testimony: "Being a music teacher myself, I have really appreciated what Doc Fleetwood has to offer. He's a teacher of teachers and highly skilled on the guitar. I have learned so much from him the last 3 years. He never ceases to amaze me with his knowledge and expertise and goes out of his way to help his students. You can tell that he loves to teach and it has been fun playing some of his arrangements and original compositions. I have also enjoyed watching and listening to him as he plays in a professional Jazz Trio. (They have produced several excellent CD recordings). I am happy and honored to recommend Doc Fleetwood." - Darrell Robertson, Piano and Guitar Teacher, Guitar Instructor at Chemeketa Community College "I have been meeting with Doc Fleetwood for about six years now. I have enjoyed every moment of his instruction on the guitar. Doc uses a unique approach to teaching, in which he makes complex ideas easy to grasp. As result of this type of teaching, music theory has become simple and easy for me to apply to my music. I believe that music theory is of no use if it becomes a distant entity to playing music. Music theory should serve as a tool to take an individuals creativity to another level. I have truly seen this take place over the years under the instruction of Doc Fleetwood. I have greatly enjoyed my time with Doc and would recommend his teaching approach to anyone who wishes to take their guitar playing further. As a result of his instruction and encouragement, I myself am now teaching and seeing others expand in their musical potential." - Ben Schott, Music Pastor, Champion Life Center, Keizer, OR ; Guitar Teacher, Uptown Music, Keizer, OR "Ive been playing guitar for a long time, but recently, I had begun to feel that I hadnt challenged myself to grow at it in years. Doc Fleetwoods strengths as a teacher mesh beautifully with what I am looking for and need as a student. Hes a great listener and took the time to find out what I can already do well, using that as a resource upon which we can build. Deeply knowledgeable about music and music theory, hes also very patient with me as I step out into uncharted territory. A great teacher makes a world of difference when learning a new skill. Doc has the chops as both a master teacher and musician to help students of all levels rise to the challenges theyve set for themselves. I would recommend him without hesitation." - Loren Depping, guitar student, member of Oregon Valley Boys western swing band Rates and Availability: I teach from my primary studio in Keizer, OR, serving students from Portland to Corvallis, and I provide occasional consultations in the Portland area. I also now offer live online sessions using the Skype webcam technology for students who may live too far distant to travel for weekly lessons. I teach from beginning to advanced, and I also offer consultations for advanced students and professional musicians desiring to hone their skills and supplement their knowledge, particularly in the areas of fingerstyle technique and music/jazz theory. Please contact me regarding rates as they do vary depending on locations and technology used.
