I had written a poem around 2004 that I sadly tried to turn into a song. Moriah took what were simple lyrics full of a multitude of syntax errors, and transformed it into a painting that she eventually gave me for my birthday. From this work of hers, I was able to turn my rubbish of a tune into a beautiful song entitled "Cool in the Shade." Over the years, she has given me so much inspiration even with simple drawings, and has helped me see things that I probably never could on my own.
Daughter loved the class. Really loved the instructor and had a great time while learning so much about her art.
Mariah has delivered above and beyond our expectations, creating a curriculum for our daughter to help her prepare her college application portfolio. She's devised a clever yet structured program that already is transforming our daughter's artwork - and doing so in a truly enjoyable way as well. We're so glad that we found Mariah - she's a talented, delightful woman!
As a practicing and exhibiting artist, my enthusiasm for the subject is fresh. As a teacher I like to open the imagination and inspire my students.
I am professionally trained and actively making artwork for over seven years. I have experience with children of all ages, and I make drawing lessons fun and productive! Promote a well-rounded education in your child early. Get him or her to feel the satisfaction of accomplishment as well as explore their abilities and talents. I focus on basic color theory, perspective, and composition, while supplying plenty of interesting artists' works to get inspiration from.
My many years of experience working as an illustrator and painter has refined my skill set and enhanced my fluidity in collaborating with clients. My strong foundation in the fine arts has given me the ability to work on a number of projects in a wide spectrum of styles. I excel in technical drawing, traditional painting, and graphic rendering. I created palettes for a prominent NYC artist for many years as an artist assistant. I'm an enthusiast for colors, patterns, and whimsical style.
I provide individual instruction in painting and drawing. I'm a second-generation graduate of Art Center College of Design, a top art school near Los Angeles. I have a BFA in Painting. You will begin to draw like an old master in three lessons, and you'll beg for more because you will be so thrilled at what you can do successfully in such a short time. Painting will follow drawing because drawing is the scaffolding of painting: you must build on it. The old saying "When you know the rules, you can break them" applies magically to painting. You'll learn some old master rules, and then break them into your own contemporary works. Your heart, your soul and your thinking mind will thank you for this entirely new way to blast free of convention.
I offer support, instruction and a space to work. Sessions are geared toward all experience levels and interests as well as any styles, historical movements, or techniques that you might be interested in. I see art making as a chance to get to know yourself. It's a ritualistic practice that can be completely engaging intellectually, emotionally, physically, aesthetically, and spiritually. As a professional muralist, commission artist, gallery organizer and fine artist, I have built a valuable skill-set over the years. After finishing my BFA in Painting at San Francisco Art Institute, I began teaching art and love it. For me, teaching has become an invaluable part of my art practice. I hope to share the infinitely enchanting act of making art with you.
I teach a complete method passed down from original masters. I was taught by students of the great jazz masters. I don't just show you how, I make sure you learn fundamental skills that will be useful to you for the rest of your life.
