FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My mother was program manager of a preschool/ daycare inside of a private catholic school. I attended the school only until I was old enough to walk to and from my neighborhood public elementary alone, but I still spent a lot of time there afterwards volunteering and hanging out with my mom and her coworkers. Some of them had changed my diapers so I received a lot of special treatment. There was a carnival every fall season as a fundraiser, and I began in Junior High helping out at the facepainting table. Somehow by High School, I became the only face painter at the table. This was the case every year after until soon I was in my early twenties and began getting paid for my time. A few years later, I decided to try it free lance at the Alberta street fair, when it was clear that selling my unframed etchings was more hassle than it was worth. I met some people doing that, started working more adult and all age events through them and on my own. Finally, it just became my staple supplemental income. Its far more portable than sculpting or canvas painting so its possible for me to work even when traveling.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
In my years as a professional, my work has ranged from simple temporary face and body art to designing and building full-body costumes and masks that stand on their own as soft sculptures. I have even designed sets, or rather decorated houses to various themes. I would say(though my current profile may not reflect this accurately) my most common jobs typically involve painting faces at children's birthday parties or all-ages festivals. This is likely my strongest and most requested work because I have been at it the longest..my first event being at age fourteen.
