I worked with Keri Ann until I moved halfway across the country. She is the total package: trainer, nutritionist, massage therapist, coach, and drill sergeant. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with her, and wish I could have taken her with me when I moved.

I very highly recommend Sage Holistic's Mimi as a nutritionist and lifestyle counselor to anyone who wants effective advice for healthy living improvements. She suggested practical recipes that I could prepare for my small family, gave specific nutrition advise applicable to my particular situation, and via regular meetings helped me stay on track with implementing her suggestions for improved sleep, lowered stress, and a sensible approach to weight reduction. She did all this with a smile on her face and a helpful, authentically caring attitude. I am continuing to rely on her help to boost my health and energy.

I can’t say enough great things about Gin. She helped support me through loosing 68 lbs and counting, and reverse my diabetes. But... the most important thing is that she helped me see that the weight loss is more of a side effect of living a balanced life. She’s the best nutritionist! And she didn’t take all my favorite foods away!!!!

Christa is a brilliant nutritionist! I was struggling to find balance in my diet and a plan that was sustainable for me. She taught me the basics about how to eat and easily form homemade meals that didn't overwhelm me but were still healthy. She is super knowledgeable and has a lot of great resources to share.

I’ve been working with Laura for almost 2 years now. I went from having all types of problems to being almost completely symptom free. My issues ranged from gas and bloating and other IBS symptoms to skin disorders, namely eczema. After consulting with Laura I soon came to realize that nearly all my issues stemmed from intestinal permeability and gut biome imbalances. With her coaching we mapped out a succinct plan that I was able to follow. It took some effort of course but it was absolutely worth it. I have come so far and feel like I I can finally focus on other things in my life without my guilt holding me back. I couldn’t even go to the gym without the fear of having to run to the bathroom mid workout. I still struggle with certain issues some times (when I deviate from the plan) but I know how to fix them and bounce back quickly. I still meet with her even though I’m more in a maintenance mode now but even in these late stages she has sound advice for me. Bottom line- I support Laura because she gave me knowledge that numerous doctors, nutritionists and other healthcare professionals couldn’t. She gave me details about my issues that I had never heard before and, perhaps more importantly, a plan of care that I could execute right away. So many other professionals said something to the tune of “sounds like you have IBS. Try taking a probiotic and drinking more water...” which of course never worked out. Laura educated me, held my hand when I felt unsure and kicked my ass when I needed it. She showed me how food is medicine and taught me to eat like I give a shit. Thank you Laura!

Wanted to take a moment to share about the work Erin has done. First of all, she was able to catch an underlying autoimmune disease that I had suffered with for way-too-long. While we (my husband and I) feel grief and anger because this health condition has been missed for too many years; we now know what we are battling and are relieved there are answers. I became connected with Erin because I needed a nutritionist and she presented her credentials to me and I was hooked. At the time, I had 90-days into exercising more, changing my eating habits and I wasn't losing weight. I had also developed a cough that wasn't going away. I started with the elimination diet and I am just finishing up my first many weeks and I have began to notice changes. My cough, which has lingered since December has finally lifted and I noticed my digestion has changed, allowing the absorption of nutrients and less stomach upset. Finally, Erin listened to how badly sugar had taken control of my life. We're not talking I love sweets, we're talking: I COULD GET DIABETES THIS YEAR AND STILL, UNABLE TO CONTROL THE SUGAR. Erin recommend a tincture. This has been a GAME-CHANGER with my sugar addiction. One that I could not break without the help of this little product. I feel empowered and confident that my long-calling sweet tooth can finally rest. I am very thankful for her insight, knowledge and help. I feel fortunate to have been connected with Erin and I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking additional help in their overall health. I couldn't have done this without her - I know, because I tried.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
