Communication could have been more frequent and clear to be a better experience. I was anxious about the work getting done as promised. But I am thankful overall for the team’s availability during this very busy season. Excellent quality work was done at a fair price. Our trees were pruned and they look so much healthier and well shaped as Justin described they would. I was impressed with the care the team took with the trees and clean up. They worked hard for several hours. Had it not been for the dramatic improvement with the trees, the grounds were left like the team wasn’t even there. Be patient, the work is worth the wait!

Anthony and his team are hard workers and cleaned up our yard exactly the way we'd hoped they would. We'd let things get out of control -- weeds were taking over bushes, hedges needed trimming, and more -- and we needed to get the place in shape fast. We found Anthony online, reached out to him, and got a quick response. After he came by to see the yard, he gave a free estimate. We thought the price was fair (based on the comparable prices we'd received) so we had his team come back a few days later. The team did a terrific job clearing and pruning everything, and cleaned up the area perfectly. We're going to have them back to do fall/leaf clean up later this fall.

Dan took down two trees including grinding the stumps and pruned back another tree. Overall extremely pleased with the work and the clean up he did once done. Very accommodating with any requests. This was the first time Dan did any work for me and since I was so happy with the result I have asked him for an estimate for additional work. As I need work done in the future Dan will be my first call.

I never knew tree trimming could be such fun! They were all very friendly and knowledgeable. They told me exactly what type of trimming my trees needed and pruned in a way that not only made my trees grow in the proper direction but also kept them very healthy for years to come. I love that they didn't just come in and hack limbs. It was a very thoughtful process. I will definitely call them in for next year's pruning. Thanks guys!!!

Joe Shenberger with Kleenscaping did an amazing job for us. It included installing a brick patio, re building a pond, removing a tree, tree pruning and painting/staining and repairing the fencing and deck. He also introduced new plantings as well as transplanting a few things. I was extremely pleased with the job he did. Joe spent a lot of time with me planning the project and kept me informed regularly of their progress. Joe and his crew were extremely hard working and made sure they got everything exactly right for me. I even threw in an extra pruning job at the end. I highly recommend Kleenscaping for all your landscaping needs.

We're extremely happy with the work that was done by Caleb and his team. He was prompt with coming to our home and providing a quote. On the day that the work was scheduled to begin, he arrived early which is always a good sign. He offered helpful suggestions based on the health of the tree in mind such as why you would want to just prune a tree rather than remove it altogether. Caleb has the expertise to get the job done. In addition, he's a friendly and down to earth individual who I wouldn't hesitate on contacting again for future tree on our property.

I had a few fruit trees that needed a good pruning. They came in and pruned them up perfect and I asked if they could trim up a crazy pine tree. It made it so much easier to get in our driveway. Their price was not to shabby either.

Applewood Tree Service built a fantastic three foot high walk across the back of our new addition, but because out back yard looked like a swimming pool they dug a drainage system befor the wall. Now we have not only a fantastic wall and raised flower bed but a lush green puddle free back yard!! Very professional, would have them do more work anytime!! Oh wait we did, they pruned a huge holly tree for us and cut down an old maple tree!! What can I think of next???

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

    • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
    • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
