I would like post a review about the owner Andrew Troiano of this company. He finished my basement in my private home and the experience was beyond what I expected. I must say the level of professionalism was outstanding. Their bid and cost to refurbish was way below other companies but the quality was fantastic.

Dawnell came on time and stayed until the job was completed. She was very helpful throughout the entire process and had so many excellent ideas on how to better organize my house. She's very easy to work with and very knowledgeable. I'd hire her for any future organizational/staging jobs for my home!

When I first saw Adair's staging work I immediately realized that she has the ability to bring an extra measure of style to a job. She goes well beyond basic staging to give a property a high-end look. Although that first job was in a tiny townhouse, I knew she was the right professional to stage my high-end listings. She took a lovely but dated 6,000 squre foot home and gave it the verve necessary to appeal to upwardly mobile buyers.

RudeWood is a refreshingly artistic custom design workshop in Lancaster, PA. Using innovation and creativity to fabricate timeless designs throughout eastern Pennsylvania, Co-owners Alex Rudegeair and Jeremiah Linton, are taking reclaimed woodworking and home renovation to a new level of artistry. Earlier this year, my husband and I were looking for a barrel wine rack to add to our finished basement. We had an idea of what we wanted, and after numerous searches at local furniture stores, artisan shops, and on line, we also knew exactly what we did not want. Being very familiar with Alex and Jeremiah’s work, we reached out to them for some inspiration and design ideas. Within just a week or so, they came up with what would become a uniquely creative, beautifully designed and finished 48-bottle wine barrel stave wine rack and buffet fully fitted with a slide out cheese board made from the barrel’s lid. Although wine stave racks are available all over the internet, what RudeWood created was unlike anything I had ever seen. The entire piece was hand crafted from a Napa Valley wine barrel and nearly all pieces of the barrel were used. Just take a look at their portfolio/website, and you will see how RudeWood exquisitely combines strength, beauty, the old, and the new to carefully create awe-inspiring, one-of-a-kind, heirloom quality pieces and concepts for their customers.

Paul helped me get my house ready for sale. It sold with in a week. What he did: Painted inside and out. Finished laying a floor that was started. Repaired a porch roof. Removed extra furniture to make it appear bigger. Helped with some outside touches. All this was don't quickly, neatly and the way I requested.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

  • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
  • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
    • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
  • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
    • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
  • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
  • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.
