Just re-read these reviews and am amazed that these guys can do it all and are honest, reliable, and great to have around the house! I hired for drywall and wall restoration for water damage from a burst pipe. What started as hanging panelling, drywall, trims and painting ended up with a putting a huge dent in my maintenance to-do list - replacing sheet rock, tile and grouting in huge hole in main bathroom without the entire gut and redo recomnended by others, repairing drywall damage on part of 3 walls and repainting the entire walls, rewiring and hanging new motion detector and exterior lights, checking wiring and replacing a new ceiling fan/light in our great room, repairing an exterior door knob - that required new screws (thru a heavy metal door!) replacing a ballast on a flourescent light, and checking/fixing an electrical outlet in our laundry room. They moved and replaced furniture and always had time to answer questions, and cleaned up all messes. I was surprised (and overjoyed) when I heard Jason, one of the brother's, specialized in outside jobs and am getting an outside list queued up for later this spring. Highly, highly recommend, and THANKS, guys!!

I hired Jeffhomepro to install a walkin shower with a bench and ceramic tile floor. Jeff and his team were punctual everyday. They were very friendly and pleasant to be around. Jeff would ask my opinion when doing my shower to make sure its the way I wanted it. His team kept everything spotless as they worked. Jeff finished the job on schedule and followed up with me afterwards. I highly recommend Jeffhomepro.

We highly recommend Eric Plomchok and Second Nature Home Improvements. We engaged Eric to take down a wall between our kitchen and dining room, remove cabinetry and a desk and to install 11 sets of cabinets, cabinetry and ceiling lighting, shelving and wallpaper. The result is amazing. The finished ceiling blends so well that it is impossible to see where a wall might have been. Eric’s care and attention to detail in all of the work he completed is extraordinary. No seams are visible in the wallpaper, the numerous relocated electrical switches and outlets are in perfect places and no nail marks are visible in the cabinetry. The last bit of work left of the original job is matching the wooden floor boards where the wall once stood and we trust that, given his track record so far, this will be completed soon and will look terrific. Eric is professional, friendly and always cleaned up at the end of the day. He was also very patient when changes were made to original plans. We came to think of him as family and to trust him in the house when no one was home. We were so impressed with his work and so reluctant to see him go that we kept finding other things since he was so proficient in so many areas! In addition to the original work he was engaged to do, we also engaged him to help install new electronic temperature controls and a keypad system for our garage doors. Unfortunately, now that Eric has completed the extension of the kitchen in such exemplary fashion, the rest of the kitchen looks old and tired and needs updating! As a result, we have asked Eric to provide estimates for the kitchen update as well as a remodel for our master bathroom. Again, we highly recommend Eric and Second Nature Home Improvements! We’ve leveraged the experienced professionals at G.S. Flook for multiple jobs during our transition from our old house to our new house, from vinyl siding and outdoor deck maintenance & repair to custom electrical work and indoor entertainment room design & consultation. We couldn’t possibly be happier with every job completed by the G.S. Flook team – they clearly take pride in their work and walked us through every step of the process while providing guidance and recommendation as needed. We appreciated the fact that they are perfectionists who won’t settle for anything less than superior quality in every way. In addition to their professionalism, the other reason we have recommended and will continue to recommend G.S. Flook to all of our friends and family is their personal touch that separates them from other companies we have used in the past. They exuded trust, kindness and generosity in every single interaction with me and my family. We look forward to doing business with them again in the near future.

We recently gutted our kitchen and replaced everything. I turned to Thumbtack once again looking for a contractor to tear out our old floor and install new LVP flooring as well as tile backsplash. I got 2 repspones form Thumbtack and my wife got 2 from Facebook. Out of the 4, 3 cancelled the day they were to come and look at the job and give us estimates (one guy 10 minutes before he was supposed to be here). Only Andrew from Wick's Helping Hands showed up when he said he would (10 min early actually ). He was very professional and got me a written estimate within a few days. We did end up getting another estimate from a contractor who had canceled on us originally. Both estimates were very similar, but Andrew was by far the more professional and thorough!! In the end we could not have been happier with our decision the hire Andrew from Wick's Helping Hands. The work he did was top notch and he showed up on time each day he was scheduled to work at our home. It took him 4 days to complete the work streched out over 3 different phases. Each time he left our home very clean and removed all his contruction trash. I do alot of work around my home myself and I am very picky , I can honestly say Andrew's work met all my expectations! I would not hesitate to hire Andrew again and I would reccomend him to anyone looking for remodeling contractors!

I was extremely pleased with the quality, service and attention to detail they deliver. I was so pleased after my kitchen floor tile was installed I immediately scheduled my tile backsplash installation. They were very prompt in responding to my request for a quote, offered pictures, and gave sound advice to assist us with determining which tile and grout would work best for our needs. They offer fair prices for top notch work. They were very respectful of my time and were on the job at the exact hour they stated. They completed the work on the time line given without any delays or extensions. I will continue to recommend C.E. Witmer to all my family and friends. As we work on the other upgrades to our home we will be using C.E. Witmer for all our tile and marble remodeling.

Keystone flooring installed a floating laminate wood floor in my living and hall areas. They also installed ceramic tile in my bathroom. In my shower they installed ceramic with numerous inlays. The product selection process and the installation were both done very professionally.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
