I had all of my carpets cleaned. They turned out better than I expected. I explained what needed done and the stains that needed attention. I was charged exactly what I was quoted. Sometimes people come and up charge or can do this or that at an additional cost. There were no surprises which is always a plus. The cleaners were very professional and friendly. I would definitely recommend. I will people using them for all my carpet cleaning in the future.

Tom is a conscientious professional. He arrived on time, using text messaging to communicate arrival time. I had him steam clean 5 rooms and two sets of stairs, which he accomplished in approximately 2.5 hours. Service includes moving and wiping down furniture, vacuuming floor and intake vents, pretreating and steam cleaning the carpet. The products he uses, clean effectively and are safe for pets. His rates are reasonable and I am very pleased with the results. Will be calling him again.

We had unexpected and significant plumbing issues two weeks before closing on the sale of our house. The plumbers fixed the pipes but left 3 massive holes in the walls and ceiling. Bill came in and less than two days later it was like the holes were never there. He went above and beyond, primed over the water stains, even cleaned up the mess the plumbers left! All for a fraction of the cost I would have paid the other guys. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for professional, efficient plaster or paint work done in their hone.

Theyou did a great job with the carpet cleaning. It was a small bedroom, small livingroom and about 50-some steps plus landings. My only complaint is the waiting window and that there seems to be a bit of a fallout with their internal communication.

Sage is a very professional cleaner- she came on time, brought all the stuff needed and did a great job cleaning the apartment. My apartment was occupied by couple of young 20 year old bachelors since past 1.5 years and was in a mess as you can imagine. We were in a hurry to have carpeting in 5 rooms cleaned so we could list my dad's house for sale. Zach accommodated us the next day. Even tho he already had a house to clean, he came and did ours afterwards. There were some "light" stains left in a few of the high traffic areas but the carpeting was old and overall he did a good job. He is very hardworking and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend him.

Mike and Jim helped professionally steam clean the stained carpet and upholstery in our home. Some of the areas they cleaned needed a lot of extra attention. They explained everything thoroughly as they did the initial walk through with us. Then they got busy treating the spots and stains prior to the actual cleaning. My husband and I had errands to run, so we asked how long it would take. Mike told us 2 hours, and that's how long we were gone. When we arrived, everything looked beautiful. The carpets, sofa and chairs were not only clean, they smelled great as well. Jim and Mike put all the furniture up on blocks to protect the wood. They also gave us a few pairs of medical overshoes to wear, just in case we had to walk on the damp carpet. Jim and Mike are true professionals! We know and appreciate the value of hard work. These guys were pros from the time they gave us a quote, until they gave us final instructions about proper air circulation and drying times. We know we will be customers for life, and will highly recommend them to all family and friends.

People at Rainbow International are very friendly and honest. They came, looked around and gave us their reasonable and best quote for the job. They didn't promise anything extraordinary. Some of the stains and spots on our carpet they said can not be removed and they were right. However, they did a great job that most or all stains were removed. Initially the carpet didn't look good but once it completely dried up, the carpet look almost like new. And yes some of the stains remained but are faded out. Certainly, our carpet looks a lot better than it before. One thing I was expecting they didn't do. They didn't run a machine on the carpet that suppose to agitate the carpet once they sprayed liquid with detergent. However, they used a grooming rake. Other than that we are happy and glad we had this done. Thank you Rainbow International.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

  • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
  • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
  • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
  • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
  • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.
