Debbie S. says, "We recently had Philip Evangelisti, of Sunny Ridge, complete a paver patio for our new home. I originally reached out through Thumbtack for someone to build a patio. Philip was the first of several contractors to respond to my request. My husband and I set up a time to meet with Philip to discuss our requirements. He arrived in a timely manner, and presented himself in a very professional manner. I already had a basic design in mind, so Philip worked off of that plan to finalize a drawing for us. He made numerous suggestions as to the best way to approach our project, as well as helping to guide us regarding what type of materials would best serve our purpose. After a couple of meetings with Philip and obtaining a quote for the work, we felt confident that he could take on the project and do a great job. Let me mention that we often like to hire entrepreneurs in order to help them get started in their business and allow them to hone in on their skills. With that desire in mind, we hired Philip to build our patio. Although he is a little young, he has quite a bit of experience and knowledge in numerous areas. Our faith in his skills indeed paid off. Philip worked with us throughout the entire project to make sure that we were informed about what, why, and how he was doing things. Since we were building a portion of our patio over the top of a concrete slab, it was necessary for him to make modifications in order to have one continuous flat patio upon completion. My husband and I shopped for the necessary supplies, and even had a couple of calls with him to make sure that what we were getting would work. (These calls were on a weekend, and while he was out of town, but he was more than happy to talk with us.) We set up delivery of our supplies, and Philip promptly got started on our project. He often hired his brother to help him with the job. The two of them worked hard, in the hot summer heat, and completed the patio in a timely manner. Philip knew what he was doing, he knew how to do it, and took great care each step of the way. I made a modification to the way we were going to have our steps, and Philip just took it in stride and worked with us to make it work. He even went with us to purchase the supplies and helped us figure out what we needed. We are EXTREMELY pleased with our patio, and have received numerous compliments about how beautiful it turned out. Unfortunately I did not take pictures of the completed project before we put everything on the patio, but I believe you will see just how awesome it looks from these pictures. In conclusion, I would not hesitate to hire Philip again if we would have any other project. I also would certainly recommend him to anyone that is looking to hire a contractor. His prices are more than fair, he often went above and beyond what was required, and he is willing to work hard to get the job done in a professional and timely manner. Debbie Scott"See more

“Artificial turf installation can give you a consistently vibrant, low-maintenance lawn year-round. It generally reduces water bills, eliminates mowing needs, and minimizes weeds. Adding underlays (extra cushioning or zeolite to contain odors) can make the space more suitable for pets or children.“

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The best turf filler really depends on how you use your lawn. While silica sand is a common and affordable choice, other options may be better for your needs. For example, rubber infill provides more cushioning for play areas, and some infills help neutralize pet odors. An experienced installer can guide you toward the right option for your situation.

Artificial grass will last between eight and 20 years, according to many companies that provide installation services. Some also say its longevity is closer to 15 to 25 years. Keeping the artificial turf well-maintained is essential to increasing its lifespan. This includes cleaning it by removing dust, leaves and other debris, as well as ensuring that proper drainage is in place.

The average cost to install artificial turf is $3,458. However, this cost will depend on a number of factors. For example, the size of the project will impact how much you pay, as well as the type of turf you choose (nylon, polyethylene or polypropylene). To find out exactly how much it will cost to add artificial turf to your yard, contact the best artificial turf professionals near you.

Artificial grass is low-maintenance, which is a major pro for homeowners with a busy schedule. You don’t have to mow it, water it or fertilize it, and it stays a consistent color year-round. It can also be made from recyclable material.

However, there are some tradeoffs. Low-maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance — you will need to sweep, spray and sanitize the grass. Artificial turf in direct sunlight can become hot. And, the installation cost is typically more expensive than natural grass.

Artificial grass has a number of benefits for those seeking certain qualities. For homeowners who want to minimize maintenance, pooling water, mosquitoes, fertilization and watering, artificial turf may be worth the money. Artificial grass is also durable and can be recycled for those concerned about environmental costs.

After repair, artificial turf typically needs regular rinsing to remove debris and periodic brushing to keep the fibers upright. You should also clean spills promptly and inspect the repaired area to ensure it holds up. If you find you’re making frequent repairs, it might be time to consider a new artificial turf installation.
