I had the honor of taking part in a private in home dinner featuring lead Chef Shaun Forsett. Overall: My experience was amazing. Being accustomed to small plates, tasting menu, and high end prix fixe experiences in Washington, D.C. it was a delight to have a taste of foodie heaven in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Hosted in a private Shadyside home, I experienced an amazing evening of expertly paired flavors. "Shef" Shaun is ever the professional. He was personable and knowledgeable giving step by step guidance of what he was doing. He assured us of the highest quality of his ingredients and gave a casual walk through the art of food. What left me amazed is that the food tasted as beautiful as it looked. There is nothing like having a photo worthy of Instagram depicting food worthy of praise. We began the evening with a first course of pan seared sea scallops. It was a colorful creation accented with fresh mango, endive, dill, a balsamic reduction and a beautiful basil oil. It was an energetic flavor pairing and it literally danced on my tongue. He walked us through step by step and I realized how much knowledge Shef Shaun had when explained exactly why he used every ingredient he used. Our second course was a Chili Crab Toast topped with Pickled Cucumber, Paprika Aioli, Leeks & Coriander.. Can I tell you how delightful this was? The cucumbers were freshly pickled and garnished with cilantro. As the Chef prepared this dish, he explained how he only used claw meat and for what reasons. It was like getting a cooking lesson and an fun evening all in one. And finally this amazing third course. Who the heck would think to put caviar on a grape. We has a Raspberry Coulis with Kiwi, Creme Fraiche, Grapes topped with Caviar, Sliced Almond... I will just leave that here. It was THAT amazing. I wish I could kidnap this guy and bring him to DC it's like having an amazing chef in your home whenever you need. I also think he would be good for many other intimate occasions. Or if you just want a cooking lesson, Shef Shaun was not apprehensive about sharing his knowledge. The mark of someone truly confident in his craft.
I asked Brian to not only cater a birthday event with a Mexican-themed feast but to cook it on site in our home kitchen for a specific dinner time. That's a real challenge and Brian handled it beautifully. He hauled in the ingredients for mussels as an appetizer, homemade soup as a first course; beef, chicken and ground meat - all cooked to perfection on site for a taco bar that also contained just made salsa, grated cheese, chopped lettuce, and hot sauce. He let us be the prep cooks so we had fun just working alongside and learning, too. He roasted the peppers right on the flame and toasted the flour tortillas there, too. That was cool. The crowd was ages 9 to 70 and everyone raved about each item. Several of the children decided they like mussels! All enjoyed filling up tacos with fresh ingredients cooked on the spot and served immediately - and with delicious tastes. The final surprise was a dessert - flour tortillas cut into fourths, fried quickly in hot oil, dusted with confectioner's sugar, and drizzled with chocolate sauce. OK, those just flew off the plate. Brian not only made delicious food but he make a family party. This was a uniquely difficult assignment and Brian handled it with enthusiasm, planning, great food, patience, and a sense of fun. I highly recommend Brian at McClaren's Pittsburgh Catering for traditional catering from his wide menu, but he can do things extra special, too.
This was a buffet style dinner in celebration of my wife's birthday in our home. We had approximately 40 people. Everyone at the party raved about the food. It was great having someone else do the cooking and serving so we could spend time with our guests. The process of selecting the menu, signing contracts, and taking care of details was very easy . There were a number of head count changes which Chef Jacob easily accommodated. He and his staff were very friendly and polite. Overall a great experience. I am sure we will use Chef Jacob's service again. He's flexible, accommodating and most important a great Chef.
We searched the Internet for someone who had done a mashed-potato bar and other delicious foods for my daughter's graduation party. Lisa responded quickly with ideas for foods and pricing per person for each choice individually. She also advised us that we could order as many of each item as we wanted and were not locked in to ordering the same number of everything. She happily obliged when we asked to come out for a taste of her food and even had us in her caffe when it was convenient for us (which happened to be when they were closed.) We knew right away that we wanted her to cater our event. From the time that we booked to the time of the event, Lisa was fabulous. She was very responsive to any questions that I had before the event. She also helped me figure out what all was needed...even for things that she wasn't making. She worked within our budget and assured me that everything would be perfect. It is an understatement to say that she did not disappoint. She responded to my very last minute request of bringing coffee with a 'No Problem'. Lisa and her husband, Ed, arrived in plenty of time to set up. They were very professional and a delightful couple. We got rave reviews on all of the food...from the very youngest of guests to the very oldest and everyone in-between. Numerous guests asked us who catered our party. We were so pleased. They made absolute delisiousness, with a touch of elegance, out of what seemed to us like such simple choices. We would definitely hire Lisa and the team at Caffe Barista for any other event...no matter how casual or sophisticated -- big or small it may be. Thank you Caffe Barista!
Every year I struggle to find a gift for my husbands birthday. This year, I got the coveted “ best birthday ever” from him after our at Home cooking adventures with Art. Art was great! He taught us things we asked to learn, and added things we had not even thought of. Art really knows his stuff. It was a fun night, and dinner was spectacular.
Ms. Emily is amazing she not only taught me new cooking skills but she also gave me the comfort to have courage in my cooking and exploring beyond. She also taught my children cooking that give them a chance to help me in the kitchen we now have a new bonding opportunity. My favorite is making home made brotha and stocks I can not wait til fall to use my new skills we love Ms. Emily thank you

We've been using The Carefree Table for the past 2.5 years and love not only that we eat delicious and healthy foods, but that it had also made our busy lives a lot less stressful at meal times. We no longer shop for groceries, prep, cook and clean pots and pans. We simply decide what we'd like to eat and request it from The Carefree Table. When we get home, the meals are in our fridge/freezer and all we need to do is heat and eat. We highly recommend this service for anyone looking to eat what they like (menu is customizable) without having the time to shop, prep, cook and clean.

We had Rich do a live cooking demonstration on flavor profiling. Not only was Rich prepared and informative, but he was lots of fun and his food was fantastic!! I loved how Rich customized his training to our likes and needs. He was very sensitive and focused on customer satisfaction. Did I say the food was amazing!! My favorite was the coffee rub flank steak!! The smoked jalapeño potato salad, watermelon 3 ways, and pineapple dessert was fabulous!! Would definitely recommend Gastro-Smith Food Services for catering and cooking classes.
Gaynor's School of Cooking is truly a wonderful culinary experience! I have taken two classes with Gaynor and learned so much in preparing, cooking/baking, culinary shortcuts, and presenting delicious dishes. Gaynor is so personable, fun, and is an amazing culinary expert!
