Should you tip piano tuners?

Tipping piano tuners isn’t customary. If you had a great experience with a piano tuner, you can also show your appreciation by leaving a review on Thumbtack.

What happens if you don't tune a piano?

Tunings can help prevent damage and maintain your piano. When you tune your piano, you’re correcting its pitch. So if you go too long without tuning your piano, the pitch will likely drop — which can add tension to your piano’s structure, according to the Piano Technicians Guild.

Is piano tuning hard?

Tuning a piano can be difficult if you haven’t done it before and don’t have the correct tools. For example, you’ll need a piano tuning lever, tips, electronic chromatic tuner and mutes. If you don’t have the tools or experience, you might be better off hiring a professional to tune your piano.

Is it worth tuning an old piano?

It may be worth tuning your old piano, especially if it’s highly valued or has sentimental value. Bring your piano to an expert piano tuner. They can assess your instrument and help you determine if it can be restored.

Why do my piano keys squeak?

If your piano keys are squeaking, it may be because something is stuck between the keys. Or, your piano may be dirty. You may be able to fix your keys. If not, hire a professional to take a look at the problem and perform the repairs.

How often should you tune a piano?

Some experts recommend tuning your piano at least two or four times a year, according to the Piano Technicians Guild. You should always see what the manufacturer recommends for your specific piano. And you should schedule additional tunings as needed.

How long does piano tuning take?

Tuning your piano might take a few hours or less. Before your appointment, ask your piano tuner how long the process will take.

Reviews for Providence piano tuning professionals

John spent a great deal of time on my piano. He was thorough in his work and he is very knowledgeable about pianos. I would highly recommend him, and he will definitely be my permanent piano tuner.

Blake did an amazing job with my old baby grand. As a professional singer with a very sensitive ear, I am so pleased with his tuning! It sounds far better than the tunings by the last two tuners who I had hired in the last two years. He took the time and care to get the best sound he could. My ear, and my piano/vocal students are very thankful!

As pianist most of my life, my piano has always received the utmost care. Now living in Providence, I no long had anyone to care for my instrument. I was referred to Sophia Krishnaswami of Sophia's Piano Services by Thumbtack. She was most prompt in the appointment scheduled. Her knowledge of the piano was immediately recognized. A further appointment, based upon her assessment, was scheduled. In light of the fact that the piano had been moved, she first began by gluing the tuning pins to stabilize them. She then seated the strings at the bridge pin to improve the tone. At that point, she adjusted the pitch to universal concert pitch, thereby improving the tone. She also filed the hammers to fit to strings, checked them to be level, and did her final tuning. I have hired numerous piano tuners. However, her ability and quality of workmanship astounded me. Her fees were most reasonable and well worth the investment. I am most satisfied and thrilled to have witnessed such talent and dedications to one's profession. I highly recommend her to those whose main concern is a most professional job with attention to detail. She is truly an Artist.
