Beth is a highly experienced swimming instructor. We used to take our son to the MIT rec for group lessons. Beth had worked there before and knows all the techiniques and skills to teach swimming to small kids. I'm glad I decided to move my son to private lessons with Beth. She is now teaching also other kid from our same building.

I am very pleased with my training at the Body Mind Systems School of Martial Arts. I will not call it a karate school, or even a martial arts school. You learn about martial arts in this school; and how it can impact you in your daily life as well as how the various martial arts that you learn in this school can help you to become better prepared physically as well as mentally towards meeting daily challenges. I would call this a school that enhances and teaches you life long lessons in utilizing your training, understanding, knowledge and observations in the teachings of the martial arts. The martial arts that you learn at this school should become a daily part of everyone’s life just as essential as breathing. We breathe every day but don’t think about it or even notice but it is essential to our daily lives and this is how much I feel about the martial arts as it should be a daily part of everyone’s life and lifestyle. By learning about the various martial arts that are taught within the school I personally have learned a lot about myself. I have learned about how my body and mind works and responds to various martial arts forms as well as the understanding of what my body can do today and what I could expect from it going forward. When I first began this program I started out at the age of 49, my back was very sore to the point where my leg got numb from just plain walking for 30 min per day. I couldn’t even walk 3 miles without having to stop at least 2 or 3 times before completing my walk due to the numbness in my leg. My back went out four months prior to my attending this school and I had to use crutches and canes just to get up and walk around. At one point I couldn’t even put my leg on my other knee and couldn’t even bend forward to put on my socks. When I started with Body Mind Systems they told me to bend over and try to touch my toes, I couldn’t even get past my knees. I also experienced constant back pain each and every day. Today exactly one year later, my back pain is either non-existent or I occasionally have minor back pain that will go away once I start stretching and practicing the martial arts. I can now without any warm up get to within about 2 ½ inches from my toes and with a good warm up actually go past my toes and touch the floor. I am now 50 years old and it is my belief that the last time I was able to touch the floor without bending my knees was when I was 4 years old. Right now I am very happy with my training as well as obtaining a better knowledge and understanding of the martial arts training that I am receiving. I practice each and every day and I feel better and stronger as well as more confident in myself that I can overcome any challenges presented to me. I would highly recommend this school to anyone wanting to improve themselves physically as well as mentally.

I've been attending BodyMindSystems for about 3 years. The school made me realize the importance of my physical state and how it affected all the other areas of my life. Even more importantly, it's teaching me a very different perspective of looking at the world and my place in it. This is leading me to actions that are very beneficial to my life and everyone around me, but actions that most likely I would've never considered otherwise. On a physical plane, I've shaved off at least 15-20 years off my biological age. I am now stronger and healthier than I've ever been in my life and I've never been a couch potato. I've always exercised before but now I am at a completely different level and what's even more exciting is that there are so many more levels to go! My 9 year old son has also trained with me for 3 years. I love the fact that we are doing this together. The best way to teach kids anything of value is to do it yourself. Actions always speak louder than words because they are the real litmus test of our beliefs. My son and I might be at different "life levels" but we are both learning the same things: confidence, focus, patience, the importance of intent and positive perspective, and many other qualities that help live life to the fullest. I highly recommend BodyMindSystems to anyone who desires to get the most of their life.

I have two girls who began swim lessons with Mara. They were 3 & 4 years old at the time and exposed minimally to swim. Like most children, playing and splashing was super cool. Mara has taken them from fun play in water to learning all the skills of bubbles, side breathing, safety, treading, diving, and basics of 4 different strokes. They are now 6 & 7 and have joined a local swim team and keep striving to do their best. Mara's skills in teaching have given them the self confidence, courage and true enjoyment of being in the water. Mara is truly the best coach new swimmer can hope for, which I (the mom) can attest to personally as well. For myself, I was new to swim and was not comfortable in deep water nor did I know how to properly swim any type of stroke. I had taken lessons with Mara as an adult and by the end, I was comfortable in deep water, learned stroke fundamentals and built the confidence needed as a Mom with two young children. Lastly, I found that with private lessons, my children received the attention needed to learn at their individual pace. In addition, the time was always used well and there was no time sitting out as there sometimes is with group sessions.

I have known Mara as our family's personal Swimming instructor for over 2 years now and in this time she has helped each one of us not only swim but swim confidently. She has helped us snap out of some of our apprehensions. I appreciate the fact that she is willing to tailor the course of the lesson based on the comfort level of the student while also motivating you into accomplishing challenges. I find it curious that she always seems to know what you are doing right or wrong underwater and that way she is always very observing and you have all her attention. She continually works with us to correct our form and strokes and instills a great deal of fun for the sport! I highly recommend Mara as an instructor for a student of any age or skill and would be happy to see her take on more students.

Mara has been so patient with me. The fact that I started with her as a beginner, she made me feel right at home and kind. She makes you feel comfortable in the water plus she's very flexible with the payments. She's exceptional and with her good sense of humor, makes the session smooth. My swimming lessons with Mara have been fun. I highly recommend Mara.
