T&C did a complete cleaning of my home. Overall a very good job. The followed my instructions almost perfectly. It was my first time using them and with a little more instruction, I'd call back again. I was disappointed that my ceramic glass top stove was left untouched and they clearly missed mopping underneath some furniture and behind doors, which, for this customer, is important.

Kevin and Liam arrived at my house at the appointed time and replaced a picture window over my master bathtub. They were very careful not to cause any damage in removing and replacing the window, were very professional, and did a great job. They cleaned up after they finished and even cleaned the new window. I would definitely hire them for again.

Mr. Calabrese was right on time at 7 am and was well prepared. He has all the special equipment to clean every type of window ; casements, double hung , sliders , door windows and transoms. I have around 75 windows and have 3 stories. He completed all of the windows plus a 12' mirror in 11 and a half hours. Because of his sofisticated equipment he did not need to use a huge ladder to reach the third floor. He has these telescopic poles with brushes that carry distilled water to keep the water from spotting. The outcome was spectacular. The windows are cleaner than I have ever seen them. They literally sparkle! His price was very reasonable too. I will definitely use him again . S.O.

We used Southern Home Cleaning LLC to do a deep clean of a luxury condo rental between tenants about 1 1/2 weeks ago, and we were amazed at the results. The unit is very high end, but there had been no dusting, cleaning of refrigerator, appliances, window sills, blinds, or screened porch or baseboards in 4 years. The work that Lise-Lotte Newell and her team did was spectacular and we will definitely use them again. They were very professional, on time, concerned with the details that concerned me as to the cleaning, and asked me to check the unit upon completion to be sure that I was satisfied. We could not ask for more! Thanks so much. Beth Davis

I hired David to paint two interior rooms in my home, the living room and master bedroom. My home has crown molding and multiple windows, and I wanted to make sure the job was done by a professional. David did a wonderful job! He was able to paint both rooms in one day, and I'm so happy with the final outcome. His prices are very reasonable, and he was able to work me into his schedule quickly. I will certainly use him again in the future for any painting/construction needs. Thanks so much!

Nate and his crew did a beautiful job cleaning my home. Baseboards, ceiling fans clean and no more dust bunnies. Very friendly and understanding of my explanation of problem areas in my home. Will most definitely use their services again on a regular basis. A company I will recommend to all of my friends.

Fantastic experience with Deaville Roofing from start to finish. Highly recommend for roof repair or a new roof. John came out and gave us a very fair quote after he inspected the roof himself. Not all roof repair companies do this. We had a long detailed house inspector's list of concerns and John addressed everything within a couple of days so we could wrap up the sale of our home. Most importantly he is licensed and insured.

What an amazing experience we had working with Junior! He is incredibly competent. Any idea I had, he could pull up pictures on his phone from similar jobs he had completed. We had him do crown moulding, including a detailed tray ceiling, window trim, install cabinets above the washer/dryer, and next week he is putting in a counter above the washer/dryer.

I highly recommend Andy Yates for anyone who needs window cleaning. I needed someone fast to clean my windows in my house ( Ballantyne area) and Andy worked me in to his busy schedule and cleaned my windows the next day! He and his partner were prompt, friendly and courteous. My windows are sparkling and I couldn't be happier with the service. They worked quickly yet carefully. I asked for business cards from Andy so I could recommend him to my neighbors. I will be using his window cleaning services in the future.

Mr Binnarr repaired wood rot on the front trim and also wrapped the garage entrance. He took the extra time to explain as the job progressed. He was thorough and professional. I asked him to come to repair some siding issues. I would highly recommend him to others.

We asked Ryan to bid on a room to be painted and was pleased with his price. We were also pleased with the work he performed. While he was doing the paint job we decided to replace a bedroom and dining room windows. His price was again fair and he performed the work quickly and with high quality. Highly recommended.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
