Erik fixed a broken drain pipe on my bathtub. He was quick and did an awesome job. He was extremely nice and easygoing. Would hire him again, but hope I don't have any emergencies soon.

Sidd replaced the railings for the front porch, painted and did an excellent job cleaning up afterwards. I would highly recommend him for wood work and repairs.

I decided to use A1 sewer, Drain Cleaning and Plumbing Repairs and was very pleased with the service they provided. Satoshi arrived a few minutes early which impressed me, being that most service providers i have dealt with in the past were never on time. He answered my questions and cleaned up after he was done. I will definitely continue to use this company in the future although I'll admit I hope i don't have any other plumbing problems in the future. Pricing was lower than I am used to, but thanks to Thumbtack I have found my new plumber and will definitely recommend this company to all my friends, family and co-workers.

Replaced a broken piece of galvanized iron pipe inside the wall under the sink with PVC pipe and stopped the leak, while leaving the wall intact. Cleaned the entire length of the sink drain pipe and stopped the clogging. Explained everything in detail and with honesty, and charged a very reasonable rate. Will hire him again for future jobs.

I had Carolina Pipe Pros clear a shower drain for me. Mac came and as he was working he explained everything he was doing. It was actually an interesting process. During the process, Mac told me that he used to teach middle school in the South Carolina Public Schools. When he finished clearing the drain, Mac went to his van to get towels and cleaned any mess he may have made. I will definitely use Carolina Pipe Pros again.

I use heavy duty equipment to unclog drain lines when your toilet cant flush no matter how long the lines are that lead to the septic tank. I also will clean my work area before I say that my job is finish, and then you will experience a strong flush in your toilet again. I am very quick job depending on how deep the clog is in your pipes, but no mess but a clean finish will be the outcome when I come and work in your residence. I look forward to making your toilets and drains happy again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
