I was looking for someone to install the Crown Molding on the top of my kitchen cabinets to span the gap from the cabinets to the ceiling. The molding came with the cabinets and there was exactly enough with no room for error. Eric came by, he looked at the job, and we agreed on a price. The following Monday he came by and did the work. Eric is a fairly quiet man, very competent and capable, and fair in his pricing. I am very happy with the work he did and the time it took him to do it. I would recommend him without reservation.

Sam did a great job painting our kitchen cabinets (which were well built but had a handyman finish). They looked new and trendy when he was done. Saved us a lot of money! (This was 6 or 7 years ago when he was still in Massachusetts.) Friendly and professional.

Tony and Warren did an amazing job on our new house. We originally hired Tony to put a fresh coat of paint in our existing house walls and trim prior to selling (which looked beautiful), but they were so capable and reasonably priced that they ended up doing so much more. In our newer house, they removed plain tile from the entire ground floor and replaced it with beautiful wood floors throughout, including changing carpeted stairs to wood stair steps and rises with a perfect stain job. They also build a custom built-in surrounding a new stonewall fireplace we had installed and they built it exactly per the magazine picture I provided. What made them outstanding to work with was that Warren provided me status updates throughout the project via text and pictures since we weren't living in the new house yet. He was the only contractor to do that, so he ended up helping me keep tabs on the progress of the other contractors. And, he knew when to include us in key decisions and made it easy for us to quickly and timely make those decisions (e.g. sending pictures of cabinet handles, selecting paint and stain colors at Sherwin Williams, etc). The payment process was also very easy. Tony and Warren are both very genuine, hardworking men that we really enjoyed working with and will definitely work with again if they're not too busy.

We were building a home long-distance and needed to find someone who could do a number of things on our behalf. We researched several companies and landed on Green Acres after speaking with Lynn. She described all of the services she could help us with and assured us she would "treat our home build as if it were her own". New construction can be challenging but it was extra challenging doing it long-distance. Some of the things Lynn's team did for us was to cover & protect with cardboard, all our cabinetry and counters, as the workers were setting things everywhere, avoiding lots of potential damage. They cleaned the construction crud everywhere, even in the floor vents and covered them from further dirt. They washed our windows of all that film/dust that happens before the blinds were hung. After each cleaning trip, we were sent pictures of what shape they found things in and what shape it was after they cleaned it all. In fact, while cleaning one of the bathroom cabinets, Lynn's team found a somewhat hidden crack in the wood, that we may have missed otherwise. We even had a need to "babysit" our plants as we could not move them into the house with no heat. We had a need to ship things to the new address but we weren't set-up to take delivery & Lynn was able to do that and hold onto everything till we could come and get it. The response time was great, we would contact Lynn with a list of things that needed handling and within a couple of days they were at the house taking care of it. Our only mistake was not finding Green Acres early enough in our building process, which would have saved us a lot of worry and agnst. Thank you Lynn for all your help! Jim & Linda Moore

Scott, our next door neighbor has been a blessing in more ways than just being a neighbor...... he watches over our home when we are out of town, helps in the yard without asking, but where this testimonial comes in, are the many construction related projects he has done on and in the house....... his work is excellent, his approach to these projects have been professional, his billing is fair....... he has replaced the siding on the home, he has build an enclosed screen porch/deck, re-done the whole kitchen floors and cabinets, and, many other projects..... i would recommend Scott to any of my friends for any project they wish completed, period...!!!!

Today, we continue in these centuries-old footsteps to offer you the finest cabinetry in the world. There are hundreds of cabinet shops and good carpenters. One thing that sets me apart from the rest and that is "design". I have the creative artistic "gift", for lack of better words. Also, I serve my "gift" instead of serving "money" with the opportunity to be creative... money becomes less important. I love what I do. My works will be my legacy, and really, what else is there?

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you refinish kitchen cabinets?

If you’re ready for a new look and feel in your kitchen but don’t want to replace the cabinet layout or your cabinet doors, refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets is a great option. To be a good candidate for cabinet refinishing, your cabinet boxes and doors need to be in good condition. Cabinet refinishing includes taking down your doors, sanding or stripping the surface, preparing the doors with primer as needed, refinishing them with as many coats of stain or paint are necessary, then re-hanging them in their original locations. If you’re not in love with your kitchen cabinet layout, talk to a designer or contractor about creating an alternative. Refinishing simply means adding new shine to the existing setup, so if you’re dying to have a pull-out pantry or maximize wall space by going flush to the ceiling, you may want a different approach. Functional and stylish ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets can be similar in cost to refacing your existing cabinets, so keep the budget-friendly RTA option in mind when making decisions.

How do you resurface cabinets?

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets means that you retain your original cabinet boxes and existing cabinet layout and simply remove and replace the front layer of your cabinet doors. Cabinet resurfacing can also entail replacing damaged cabinet doors, keeping those that are in good shape, and installing a new surface on all of them. Cabinet resurfacing may also refer to a decision to completely change out cabinet doors because they are damaged or their style is out of date, but keeping the existing cabinet boxes and layout.

If you’re handy and have all the proper tools, cabinet resurfacing can be a DIY project, especially if you’re simply repainting. However, if you’re not comfortable removing and replacing your cabinet doors, doing precision measurements and cutting, or working with sanders and power tools, then this may be a project better left to the pros. You or your handyman or cabinet installation specialist will remove all cabinet door and drawer fronts and all hardware, then prepare the surfaces for a new layer. The pros should also update the veneer or laminate the frames to match. Once the new laminate, veneer or surface has been applied and new hardware installed, your cabinet doors and drawers are hung once more in their original locations. The national average cost for refacing cabinets is $5,000.

Can you resurface laminate cabinets?

Resurfacing laminate cabinets is an affordable and relatively easy way to give an outdated kitchen a fresh new look. If your existing cabinets are in good shape and you like your current cabinet layout, putting a fresh face on your kitchen could mean simply painting over the current laminate or putting a new laminate surface on the doors and drawers. Cabinet resurfacing may be possible for the capable DIY homeowner, but if you don’t have the proper tools or the know-how, it’s wise to call a handyman or a cabinet installation specialist to ensure you have a professional-looking outcome. To make sure your kitchen is right for cabinet resurfacing (as opposed to completely replacing your cabinets), ask yourself:

  • Do I like the layout of my current cabinets?
  • Are the cabinet boxes structurally sound?
  • Are the floor and framing in good condition to keep cabinets supported over time?
  • Are the cabinets free of water or wood damage?

How much does it cost to refinish kitchen cabinets?

Cabinet refinishing revives dull or dinged-up doors and drawers. The cost of cabinet refinishing will vary based on factors such as the number of linear feet of cabinetry you have, the amount of nicks and scratches that need repair, the level of detail on your cabinets, and more. The pros typically will remove the cabinet doors and then sand or strip them down to create a beautifully smooth new surface. After prepping the surface with primer as needed, the pros may then repaint or stain the doors to give them a new lease on life. Cabinets with intricate detail or extensive surface damage will likely cost more to refinish, as they will take more time and effort. Keep in mind that you should only elect to do cabinet refinishing if the cabinet boxes are structurally sound and you plan to keep your current kitchen layout for a number of years. The investment will be wasted if the cabinet boxes are in disrepair and will need replacement soon, or if you’re planning a remodel in two years. The national average price range for cabinet refinishing is between $1,500 and $6,000.
