This contractor was very professional and knowledgeable. We went to him after our regular contractor fell through and needed someone to help us out quickly. He did so and his work was beautifully done. We would recommend him to anyone!

Bart was a pleasure to work with. His professionalism and communication were excellent. As an out of state homeowner with a long term tenet and management company in place, he communicated effectively with all parties involved while keeping my best interests as the homeowner a priority. He was focused on the repairs while keeping costs in mind and offering suggestions and advice along the way. I would highly recommend Bart and intend to do business with him again in the future.

I’d really started to hate my 1920 Craftsman because it needed so much work and it was so hard to find quality contractors at reasonable prices. Tord and Jeff did an AMAZING job remodeling my bathroom and laundry room. They were punctual, they’re prices are great, and everything looks even better than I expected! I am so grateful to have found them! I will definitely be using T&J again for future projects in my home.

Phil installed a Eucalyptus floor in our Master bedroom/walk-in closet and a cork floor in kitchen. He responded in about 5 minutes to our posting on Thumbtack with contact number. He responded to our text on a Sunday afternoon and provided a very reasonable quote the following Tuesday. We had to order more floor and Phil said just get 5% over estimated square footage versus 10% and he was right (saving us money). He arrived the day we planned on time and finished the job a day earlier and it looks great. He is even going to help us with more of the Eucalyptus in a study upstairs. He is very nice and super easy to work with. You will not find a more responsive, reliable, professional, and reasonable flooring expert.

Donald came by to provide a free estimate on an interior remodeling job we were thinking of. He was on time, extremely thorough with his evaluation, and really easy to get along with. We haven't pulled the trigger on the job itself yet but my initial experience was nothing but positive - look forward to working with him in the future.

Josh Pearl has done several projects for us in our home in Savannah. We have been very happy with his work. He is a creative problem-solver and has helped us achieve the results we wanted on budget. Josh has corrected issues caused by other contractors and has brought ideas to projects that have made our original plans better. We would hire Josh again.

Michael completed a project on our back porch because it would leak with the rain. He did it quickly and well done. He also reviewed a list of materials from a previous contractor and manage de to cut it in half for the cost of the materials!!! Left the work space clean after each day and would start really early as well which which is why He finished so fast. Loved the job done. Was a huge headache to have a leaky backyard roof ! Thank you Purvis Remodeling. I definitely recommend them

I hired them to do a complete remodel of my home. The remodeled my kitchen and both bathrooms, refinished my floors, installed new doors, painted the interior and exterior, all new plumbing, all new electrical, new landscaping. Had a great experience with them. Always answered my calls and their work was far less expensive than others I received quotes from.

He was just the right size company to deal/work with and he had the correct type of technicians for my job. He was responsive and kept his dates/time of any appointments. His hires were courteous and polite. Chris was a great fit and he was honest and open with suggestions for improving the concept and followed through with anything he promised. He was involved with 3 bathroom renovations on my villa in Sea Pines. His team handled the entire drywall removal and installation with new. He also handled the reframing associated with the relocation of 2 walls in one of the bathrooms including the electric switches. About the only negative thing I can say is that he could have provided a written price in advance, but his verbal price was pretty close.

Willis Construction Group was one of the greater repair workers I’ve used in a while. Aaron Willis (President and Owner) provided me with a quote for my work which was very reasonable. He then communicated a time to get the work done. I liked this as I knew exactly what time to expect the repair. Aaron showed up right on time very ready to get the job done. I felt very comfortable with Willis Construction from the start and Aaron’s communication skills wowed me even more at arrival. He was very engaging and definitely made me feel like my repair was his most important priority at the time. One could tell he’s extremely organized. Those are the types of gentlemen you want working on and remodeling your house, apartment, condo, etc. I felt very comfortable letting Aaron get right to work as he came off as a trustworthy young man. I didn’t have to watch over Aaron or make sure he was efficiently getting the work done. He gave me a time frame of how long the repair would take and he was done right within that range. I was able to check out his work and was very impressed with the cleanliness. Aaron was very tidy and cleaned his working area to look exactly like he found it. I would recommend this group of men to anyone looking to remodel or needing any range of repair work done. He was truly a breath of fresh air! Thank you Aaron!

I needed to have the door to a spare room in my house fixed. The door wouldn't close and the door jamb was just pieces of broken wood on both sides. I tried to fix it myself and that didn't work. I got a few estimates and they were more than I thought it would cost. One guy said I needed a new door, even though the door was fine. It was a solid wood door. Then he said to replace the door jamb he would have to take out the old one, and part of the wall surrounding it would have to be removed and rebuilt. ... and cha ching $$$. e was showing me her new porch and other work she had someone do on her house. It looked great. I asked for the name of the company that did the work and it was Ruth's. I called Ruth's to get estimate on my door. All I needed was to have the jamb removed and replaced. the door and walls were fine. The quote was very reasonable, I only paid what the materials cost him. I hired him. It didn't take very long to fix. He cleaned up any mess and took the broken wood . I also got a quote on my porch which is falling apart. His price the best of 3 estimates. Plus my friends porch that he built is so nice. I'm hiring him to rebuild mine.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
