I could not have picked a better caterer than Chef Jeff and CJ's Catering. Very professional in every way, prepared for any situation that may pop up in the last minute. I have never had so many people rave about the food, comments like "That is the best food that I have ever had that was at a catered event". Thanks You CJ's. Derrick McCollum

Ms. Cogan catered an Employer Appreciation Breakfast for National College and it was, as always, wonderfully done. She offered helpful suggestions for the event, was timely, and the food was amazing. I received so many compliments for my choice of caterer. Lettuce Do Lunch makes me look good!

The food prepared by "Our Table Catering" is delicious and generous portions. The staff is helpful in planning and flexible with the time schedule, which we needed. Excellence is at the heart of Mrs. Shannon Brown's catering. I especially like her chicken salad...... but all the food was great, not one complaint out of 99 women. That alone speaks volumes!

Please read this review!!!! I can not say enough of Jonathan and Nashville Events & Catering. My daughter got married on January 13, 2018 in Hendersonville, TN. That was the weekend of the big ice/snow storm. It was a rough go. Friday night Nashville Airport closed, and a few out of towners could not make it. Hairdresser was snowed in Saturday morning. I spoke with Jonathan Friday night and he assured me he will be there. Jonathan and his crew was there early and took over and made sure everything was perfect. We had a buffet of three entrées, three veggies, and three unique appetizers and all the food was delicious. What a class act! The servers were impeccable! Our guest continue to compliment us on the catering. Any request we had was responded like we were royalty. From preparing the champagne for the toast, serving the cake. The servers worked with smiles and grace. The immediate family stay long after the guest left and Jonathan stay over because we had to have a licensed bartender. He was there till the end. Priceless!!! Reliability and Quality is there speciality. I want to Thank Nashville Events for making our daughters wedding a day to remember.

I contacted Chef Casandra with a catering idea for a unique birthday party... an afternoon High Tea! She got right to work researching the traditional menus and history of High Teas. She was quick to respond with suggestions and took my initial concept to a whole new level! Chef Casandra took care of everything from the serving trays to rentals to the food (of course) and even hand-selected the assortment of tea offerings. Her creativity and professionalism are superb... not to mention, the food! Everything was so delicious! My guests left impressed, delighted and -- most importantly -- full! I will absolutely work with Chef Casandra again and will be quick to recommend her to anyone seeking an amazing catering chef. Thank you, Chef Casandra, for making my birthday one to remember!!

Peg Leg Porker responded to our Thumbtack request with a personal note indicating familiarity with our rehearsal picnic location. Heather, their catering manager, was well informed to work with us offering advice when asked. She was available during the four month waiting period to answer additional questions. The set up was on time, the food was FABULOUS (providing a great topic of conversation beyond the engaged couple). Heather and Christopher served us well without intruding on the joy of the evening. They cleaned up quietly but only after waiting until there was a lull in the activities that wouldn't interfere with the anecdotes being shared. GREAT CATERERS and true professionals.

They have been so much fun. It is a great learning experience. You leave with great everyday tips, delicious recipes, and the confidence to make the dishes you just enjoyed eating. I have participated in a date night and a team building Christmas party. How can you top great food, friends, learning, and laughter!!

I had the pleasure of working with Chef Sean for an appreciation dinner I hosted for a few special friends. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Chef Sean was more than prepared with his own cookware, utensils, seasonings, and all the extras that added a special touch. He came early to my home to prep and came back later to complete the meal. Everything was fresh and right on time. I would not change a thing. He is the expert and made all things seem simple. It was a small, intimate event, however Sean gave me the same treatment as if I was a big time client. I would recommend Chef Sean for any style event. He is sure to please!

Aundrea was awesome!!! I was working in Texas and wanted to have my daughters’ sweet 16 family dinner in her hometown,Nashville ,with friends and family. I didn’t know how I would pull it off being so far away. I found Aundrea online on thumbtack. She was the first to call and sounded enthusiastic to do the job. I looked at her reviews and they were all excellent. I told her my vision and she delivered 120% . We had the dinner at a restaurant and she handled all the coordinating of the events and the services relating to the restaurant staff. The decorations were exactly what I ask for!! I saw ideas online and in magazines and she put them together perfectly!!! I was nervous because I never met her in person until the day of the dinner!! I was praying it wasn’t gonna be a nightmare as I had paid her a deposit and had never done an event without meeting the person! She delivered!! I asked for a videographer and she arranged for all of that as well. Not to mention the videographer got all the memorable moments when I surprised my daughter with her first vehicle!! Those moments in action ,of her being surprised, and the excitement seen from all the quests will never be forgotten and I will have the video to cherish forever!!! I will definitely use Aundrea for ANY big or small events I plan in the future ( my 50th birthday is coming up next year -wink wink). I planned for 30 guests and they all were impressed with the decor and entire flow of the dinner party. Later I found out she recently bought a travel agency where she can come to anyone , anywhere and plan an event. Now that’s awesome!!! Aundrea, you rock!! And I will definitely recommend you to friends and family!! I’m glad you’re in Nashville as that’s my primary residence. The price was well worth every penny ! I believe in that saying “ you get what you pay for “ I wish you continued success in your business , Aundrea. GOD BLESS YOU! Annie

I sought to give my husband a personal and unique catering experience for father’s day in our home and reached out to Vee-Go and asked if they could deliver on my desire. They developed a menu for the occasion, mapped out the evening, and far exceeded my expectations having never requested an in home caterer before! The food was exceptional and the private chef experience was luxurious! I’ve literally recommended to all my friends vegan or not because the food is that good and experience that sexy for a date night in! My husband even shared their information with our job and they are catering the office’s next meatless Monday! We plan to use them for a family dinner party real soon

Lori and The Country Cabin delivered a beautiful basket arrangement of 2 different kinds of Lori's chicken salad, along with several side items to one of my largest clients. Not only did my clients say that it was the best chicken salad they've ever tasted, but they also were amazed at the incredible professionalism and friendliness shown to them by The Country Cabin folks. Lori and her great catering service made my clients, along with myself, very happy people. I highly recommend The Country Cabin for all of your catering needs. Thanks Lori!

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

            • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
            • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
            • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
            • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
            • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
            • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
