I had 4 overgrown trees in a small backyard. The branches were overtaking my small deck and scraping my roof . Had to cut one down and canopied the other ones. Jared responded quickly and he came to my house to give a quote within a few hours of requesting help. Worked with my work schedule so I could be there while the work was being done. In 90+ heat the crew finished the job quickly and did exactly what I requested.

We hired Antonio a couple months back to fill a hole left from a pool in our backyard. He did such a great job. He was very good an communicating and was very flexible as we were out of town during the time he did the work. Our backyard looks great! We will definitely hire him again for future landscaping work.

We just moved into a house that had overgrown bushes. Adam did a complete transformation on a short notice. He is very professional, answered all of my questions and his work with landscaping is phenomenal. He trimmed bushes, trimmed a tree and also explained in detail about certain shrubs. A++. I will definitely hire him again! It looks like a different house out front!

When David came to our house to build a simple wooden deck and patio cover, we had no idea what we really wanted. After David drew up several possible plans, my wife and I decided we wanted to change to a pave stone patio, so David rolled with the punches and drew up several new ideas for us. We finally came to a decision and David jumped on the project. What an incredibly hard worker! His expertise in construction is evident in his work. Every joint is perfect, every cut on the money. He never got frustrated with all of the changes we threw at him and has created a backyard oasis for us that we love! Start to finish on this job was about 6 weeks, mostly because of the changes we kept making. We could not have chosen a better man for the job! I have another project down the road and hope David is available (to come back to Austin, TX) to handle it for us! Thank You David!

Man how could I not write a Super Glowing Review about my Newest Brother in Life and Landscaping! I had a few quotes but I knew Kevin was my guy from the first handshake! Not only did he and his team at K&R performane an absolutely amazing Service but the Price was incredibly fair! No only that but Kev was also more than happy to pressure wash the front of our home after we both discovered the dirt and grime the Holly berry he removed left behind! So... Let's Recap to really drive this one home. Tree / Stump Removal, Gutters Cleaned, Front House Pressure Washed, Front lawn Mowed and Leaves Removed, Mulched, Manacured the Area around our Mailbox and Managed to still cut down a dead tree in our backyard and so graciously even cut the wood up for our Fire Pit! All that in 1 1/4 work dayso! I mean he knocked this job so far out of the park is had to get a Selfie together! How Rare is that?! Thank you and the great team you put together for this job Brother Kev!

Excellent experience. He bid the on job, won the bid and followed through with all aspects of the bid in a timely matter. His job was a landscape of front porch plantings, replaced some plants that were destroyed by ice this winter and mulching of all beds. He also fixed some paver stones in a backyard walkway..

When my wife and I purchased our home, the backyard was an absolute mess. Gravel, glass, trash, and more. All that combined for no grass, and lots of mud. When I made my request, Josh came out within a day to check out our yard and was able to provide me a rough estimate on the spot. After working it up, he actually quoted me $400 less than we had originally discussed! Once I gave him the go ahead, Josh was out by the end of the week to get it knocked out! We had Josh grade out the entire backyard, get it nice and level, add top soil, then seed and straw it. I looked outside this morning, and like a chia pet, our grass is starting to grow and it's looking beautiful! People usually say you can have cheap, fast, or quality... pick two. Well, I am happy to say that Josh was reasonably priced, got it done quick, and did great quality work. Couldn't ask for much more.

Lively Landscape has designed and installed plans for us at 2 homes. Both homes, we had major hardscape design and installations. The entire process is very easy with Paul overseeing the entire project. We will recommend him to everyone. He stands behind his designs and projects. He coordinates and oversees everything from landscape design and install to irrigation and lighting. We could not be happier with all the projects he has done for us. It was a wonderful and pain free experience. He does exceptional designs. We are constantly getting compliments on his work.

I am a Realtor, and I have a degree in interior design from Auburn University. I specialize in new construction, first-time home buyers, staging, real estate investment and "ready for re-sale". I work with Barry Sullivan, who has been a custom home builder in Williamson County for 25 years. Together, we can help make your renovation, custom home or project into something that you'll be proud of, as well as make the process enjoyable and pleasurable. In this ever-changing, discriminative housing market that is flooded with inventory, you must make your home stand out above the competition. The first impression on the buyer must be positive, and it can either make or break your selling experience. In a lot of cases, it just takes some updating and creativity to make a space show well, or be more appealing to potential buyers. You would be surprised at what some paint, de-cluttering and rearranging will do for a space. Sometimes, there are small pieces or accessories that need to be purchased, but I have a small inventory of items that can be utilized in some cases. All in all, having your home stand out above the competition doesn't have to break the bank. It just takes a different perspective and little experience. I would love to help you achieve your goals!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

    • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
    • Read online reviews of client experiences.
    • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
    • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
    • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
