I talked my parents into coming down to help us stain our fence and after spending a day trying to figure out how to get the sprayer we rented to work we gave up and figured we'd see how much it would cost to have a professional come out. Mike and Michael came over to give us a quote the next morning. They said adjusted their quote for what we needed and the price was really great! When the rainy week finally took a break they came out first thing in the morning and knocked it out pretty quick. The quality of the work was the real seller for me though. They covered the entire fence including taking the gate hinges and latches off and pulling some weeds I missed to ensure the stain was complete. The photo doesn't do it justice but the right side to the gate door is where we did it overly thick and the left is where they did it with professional skills! (don't mind the left over paint buckets I haven't moved)

Bill was very courteous and did amazing work. We have hired him for several other projects since including repairing our fence to planting a tree and extending our flower bead, to minor projects that needed done around the house. He is jack of all trades and always kind and prompt. will use for anything that comes up in the future.

Very professional, knowledgeable and creative. Easy to work with, willing to discuss ideas, changes and with his vast construction knowledge made necessary changes to better suite requested needs. Keith was great to work with and open to any suggestions. Very pleased with his workmanship. Constructed very nice new goat barn with hay feeders, divided stalls, sleeping loft. Also used repurposed privacy fence lumber to build a nice goat shelter.

From the time he came to my house to give me an estimate to the time the work was completed was just 26 hours. I couldn't be more happy! Isaac has a great attitude is very professional, reliable and personable. When Isaac left it was like a magic wand was waved and the work was done. I didn't even have to clean up. He repaired a damaged fence, installed a garage door opener and fixed a damaged dryer vent. Isaac is just the professional we where looking for to get work done at our house. I will continue to hire him for more work in the future and highly recommend him! Thanks Isaac!

Danny did an excellent job on installing our fence and new gates. He did a barn door style on on side and regular gate on the other. Everything is level and framed correctly. Will use again and will recommend to others.

We noticed they were installing a fence in our neighborhood so we stopped, introduced ourselves and asked them to stop and give us a price, which they did. We agreed on a price and scheduled a time for them to begin installation. They showed when promised and completed everything in a timely manner. Good family. We even met the wife/mother. Father and son did all the work. They showed up when promised and did everything we agreed on and even volunteered to come back and correct anything we might have discovered later.

We are so grateful we chose Franky and Chris to install our new fence! They tore down the original fence and the new one looks great!! Franky is easy to work with, as he communicates during all aspects of the project and they both work tirelessly - even during a heat wave and the rain! I was initially hesitant of hiring a company new to the area, but they will quickly establish a positive name for themselves here in Chattanioga. I encourage you to consider them for all of your fencing needs!

Called and had Steve come out to discuss the project. Once the order was placed, it took about a week and a half to start. Took about 4 days to install fencing and gates. Fence looks good and is installed well.

Mr. Burbage designed, prefabricated to the extent possible, and installed multiple projects for us. Those items included 2 Adirondack chairs and side table both beautiful and comfortable! He also designed and built a round-bottom swing and swing stand for a specific location at our home. Again beautiful and comfortable! Then he designed and built us an arbor which also serves as an entry to a rose garden. We provided some examples and Mr. Burbage designed an arbor to satisfy the need in our garden functionally and within the space limitations. In addition to accommodating our initial design thoughts, he made some significant enhancements in the appearance. The arbor truly exceeded our expectations! Lastly, since the arbor fit in the garden area so well, we decided to replace an existing fence with one built by Mr. Burbage. Again, he designed us a 30-inch decorative and functional fence. The location of this fence presented Mr. Burbage with some challenges such as elevation and direction changes that Mr. Burbage accommodated very well! The fence blends into the garden very well and again exceeded our expectations. His craftsmanship was excellent! We have known Mr. Burbage for a long time professionally but were very pleased to be able to work with him on these personal projects for our home. In addition, we were in a time crunch for the fence and arbor and he worked through any schedule conflicts to meet our timeline. We would never hesitate to contact him for any future project! Lastly, he is very honest and dependable and we did not think twice about allowing him to work at our residence with no one home. All projects went well and there are no complaints about any aspect of the product or Mr. Burbage's performance! He also befriended our dogs and never complained about their "help" in his work! :-)

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

          • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
          • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
          • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
          • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
          • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
          • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

          • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
          • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
          • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
          • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
          • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
          • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
          • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
          • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
