I feel awful that it's taken so long for me to put a review up for Ray, because when we needed a videographer it took Ray no time to respond and provide us an amazing price with even better quality! Ray not only provided us with video, but stepped in at our wedding and took pictures and helped out our other photographer who was there. If you are looking for someone who will be as excited about shooting your event as you are about having it Ray is your man! 5 star rating!! AMAZING Job and person!!

From beginning to end, John was incredible to work with. Besides simply having a kind heart and fun attitude all the way through our video shoot, he knew what he was doing. He is a professional through and through. If you are looking for a videographer, look no further than John. You will not be disappointed. It was an absolute joy to work with him.

Tyler filmed our American Warrior Whiskey video for our crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo. I can't say enough about the phenomenal service we've had since our first meeting with Tyler. He approached our project with a sense of ownership and always had our best interest in mind. His ideas we're on point, and proved crucial in creating the perfect video for our brand. Tyler is very creative, kind, easy to work with and driven towards perfection. Let's not forget, detail oriented! We look forward to bringing all our filming projects to him. Thank you Tyler! First, I must mention how luck we were to find Christian. My wife and I, one week before our wedding, found the budget to add a videographer to our long list of wedding vendors. Christian happened to be available that week, and boy are we glad he was. Christian is very easy going, and accommodated our hectic schedule with a smile. His style of work fit perfectly for what we wanted to go for - natural and unforced. The result was FANTASTIC. Our trailer and full length video were filled with artistic shots, neat sound bites, and most of all...we didn't feel pressured to perform in front of the camera. We are so glad we had an opportunity to work with Christian, and will be recommending him to our friends. -Cole & Angelina M

Getting Daryl as videographer of my wedding was amazing. He created an amazing video of our wedding and the memories that were made that day. The intro to our video was the best. I wasn't sure how he was going to pull together an intro to the metal song my husband picked out but he did it. We love the video so much. Daryl... you are truly the best!!

He got our pictures back to us very fast and was a breeze to work with. He was on time and very professional. I would recommend Grant Sutton for any photographic or video-graphic needs. 10/10 would recommend

Jason had give me a quote to DJ AND video my wedding months before the date but me (being cheap) decided to just use him as a videographer and hire a seperate DJ (from this site) After all its just music right? lol boy was I wrong. Flash forward to the date of my wedding - Jason arrived about an hour and a half early to set cameras up and get everything just right but the dj still hadnt arrived or called.... Me and my fiance go on with our pictures and everything... 30 mins before the ceremony is supposed to start - still no dj.... 15 mins to go, no dj.... no word at all! Jason got wind of what was going on and took over. Luckily he had one of his speakers and his laptop with him (just for these occasions he said) lol I guess it happens more than youd think! he rigged up a small system for my ceremony music and even set up for the reception so I could have my first dance and father daughter dance. My day would have been ruined if not for Jason.... plus, the video we got back looks like somethin you would see on one of those chick flick movies! lol Me and my husband are so happy!

I needed a video for my newest single, and after an extensive search for an affordable videographer who understood my vision, I landed on VFD's web page, and took a chance. Glad I did! Wayne and his partner, Michael, have been awesome throughout the process thus far. They are 100% vested in the project, and have taken considerable time getting to know my music. They are both easy to work with, and approach their work with enthusiasm, and a sense of humor, which is greatly appreciated! I felt comfortable at the actual shoot, and was able to get everything done in less time that we allotted for. Highly recommended for your video project.

Nick was one of the first videographers I worked with in Nashville. We collaborated on a small budget studio performance series out in Franklin, TN. Since then, Nick and I have worked on countless projects such as; weddings, music videos, and live concerts. Nick takes a very technical approach to his craft. With a lot of videographers, you can always spot their work right away due to their artistic tendencies and "comfort zones". Nick is always branching out his shooting style to best fit the customers needs and vision.

In June 2015, my husband and I were married in Galveston, TX. Our perfect day, which flew by entirely too quickly, was captured and encapsulated in a video by Shane Blindert. I have had the pleasure of enjoying Shane’s work on several occasions. Before our wedding, I knew that Shane was a talented and gifted videographer. However, after viewing the video compilation he shot and edited of our wedding, I was blown away! Shane’s attention to detail and eye for special, unique moments brought out the beauty of the day perfectly. Though he was filming my husband and I most of the day, there were times we forgot he was even with us and in those moments, he captured the natural and raw emotion – nerves, peace, pure happiness – that we did not even recognize in ourselves that day. Shane went above and beyond to not only video my husband and I, but our venues, guests, and intricate details that we missed during the day. As mentioned, our wedding was on Galveston Island, and I believe Shane went around the whole island (in the rain) making sure he shot every piece of the day. We have hundreds of photos of the wedding, and they are gorgeous, but Shane captured in video something that a still photograph cannot: the emotion and precious moments we will treasure forever. I have watched our wedding video over and over, and each time, I notice new details and moments that I missed before. It brings tears of joy to my eyes every time. Shane’s professionalism, calm demeanor, and artistic ability are qualities that make him an excellent videographer. My husband and I would highly recommend Shane Blindert to capture your wedding or special occasion!

We couldn't have been more thrilled with our experience with having Natalie as our videographer. I knew from the minute we hired her, we had made a good decision. She met with me in advance to make sure she knew what we were looking for and listened to everything I asked for. Our wedding video turned out perfect and we have something that we can look at and cherish for many years to come. Thank you Natalie for all of your hard work and for being a wonderful videographer! :)

Penrod Films consist of the sweetest couple who go above and beyond to make sure the most important parts of your wedding day are captured. They exceeded any expectations we could have had. Potential clients: Look no further because this couple has an incredible talent. But, Incredible does not begin to describe the quality of work that Ashley and Tyler put into making our wedding day so perfect. They made us and all of our wedding party feel so comfortable through out the entire process of the wedding day. We are so grateful we came across Penrod Films and we are 100% happy with our decision to choose them as our videographer. Y'all are the best and we hope other couples make the right decision to use you guys. -Emily and Ross

About

Everybody has a story. Whether it's a wedding video or a commercial piece, there is always a story. We find it, and tell it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
