I couldn't open my front door without yanking it, and turned to Thumbtack to help me out. Soon after submitting a request, Dutch contacted me and he came over to give me an estimate for the door. While he was here, I asked him about installing some cabinet hardware in my kitchen & bathrooms...and he was more than happy to oblige (and was kind enough to not say anything about my messy house). He quoted me a fair price, and returned later that week to complete the work. He was on time (early, even!), and the work took about 2.5 hours to complete. Just before he was leaving, I asked him if he could fix a bifold door that was driving me crazy, and he was able to fix and adjust it in like five minutes flat. I highly recommend Dutch - he is professional, prompt and courteous. I will most definitely utilize his services again! Well done!

Mark came out for a cabinet repair and to remedy a dishwasher not properly affixed to cabinet box by a bad appliance repair company. He was responsive and out in no time. Really nice guy. We plan to use him for many more projects!

Full kitchen renovation including, tile backsplash, drywall work, electrical, plumbing, cabinet making, and cook top restoration. Truely nothing he can't do. He even hung antique doors for us. He is more picky about how his work looks than I am and that says a lot.

We noticed leaking pipes in our bathroom late Saturday night so I called Tommy. I was prepared to leave a voice message because it was around 11:15 pm but I didnt have to because Tommy answered the phone. He was so nice and patient. He told me what we could do to get through the night without flooding the house and stated they would be out first thing the next morning to check out everything. Just like he said they arrived the next morning ON A SUNDAY with no problem and fixed the leaking pipes for a very reasonable price. Tommy and his crew take the time to answer your questions and they are very friendly and professional. I WILL be calling them for future projects. Tommy you have a very pleased customer here!! Thank you!

In an age of hiring crews of cheap labor, where "good enough" is just that, it's refreshing to find someone who is a true craftsman. Paul is what others here have stated, hard working, skilled and lightning fast. He is also someone who can not only hang the store bought cabinets but can build the cabinets from scratch. I am well pleased with the work he has done and highly recommend his services.

Rick and his staff did a fantastic job. The first job was the closet organizer in the master bedroom, it turned out so well we asked Rick to look at remodeling the master bathroom and Kitchen cabinets. we could not be more pleased with Rick and his team. Very professional, always on time and extremely easy to work with. We started out just looking at the closet organizer and finished with a whole lot more once we met with Rick and saw the quality, craftsmanship and level of detail they put into all of the projects. Thanks again Rick!!!!

Additionally, he has done a host of other jobs that include one or more of the skills previously listed and is highly competent and honest--a true professional craftsman.

I met Mr. Riherd this week for the first time to come by my home to evaluate a problem & recommend a fix for a bathroom plumbing & flooring problem I had. He arrived promptly at the appointed day & time & immediately got into my situation. I was impressed with his sincerity, business manner, price quote, & efficiency. He is scheduled to begin work on my project this coming Wednesday & I will evaluate Mr. Riherd further upon his completion of work. My early impression is very favorable.

Tyler and his crew were great! He had excellent ideas and his knowledge of construction was great. I had Tyler come out to do some hardwood floors, and they turned out awesome. Me and my wife couldn't be happier. We are now in the process of having him do a bathroom remodel for us. I can't wait to see the final product. I would defdefinitely recommend contacting Tyler for any of your projects.

Mr McClain was hired to perform a variety of repairs at our home. They were: 1- repairing an area of our kitchen hardwood floor that had been damaged by a water leak from the refrigerator, laying tile to do so on part, 2- remove a cabinet above the fridge, 3- replace the tread boards on two sets of stairs, removing carpet, finishing the treads, and installing the new ones, 4-replace and fix the outside lower sill of three windows, 5- replace two ceiling lights with a light/fan and light in the kitchen/eating area. Mr. McClain was very easy to work with. He is very knowledgeable and able to facilitate these repairs. He was very patient with all of my questions and shared what he was doing if I asked. His fees were very reasonable, and he communicated well his responsibilities and mine in these repairs. I would definitely ask him to come again when we have more things to repair.

Wayne recently replaced a bedroom floor, installed new windows and did a bathroom remodel for us, with a new tile floor, refurbishing cabinets, changing out the fixtures and adding a beadboard to the lower halves of the walls. He had great suggestions for ways to improve the look of the bathroom. The hardwood floors look terrific and Wayne went above and beyond when he found a way to get a large closet done with the available materials, (which had not been computed to include the closet.) The windows look great and no more leaks.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

          Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

          How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
