Chris and his crew were simply fantastic. Our moving job wasn't an easy one and not only did they give us a good rate, they handled it like true pros. I am so glad I chose Music City Estate and Moving and plan to hire them for several jobs in the future (since they do many other things). I highly recommend their services. Great people. Top notch professionals. On time and ready work. Five stars doesn't seem like enough.

Danielle and her team have been providing house visits to our two (very active) boxers a couple of days during the week and on the occasional weekend for several months now. We have really appreciated knowing that our dogs are well cared for during the day when we're not home. We have also appreciated Danielle's flexibility when we've had last-minute changes in plans. We would definitely recommend her services to other pet owners!

I had the good fortune to find Travis and the Balanced Dog when I realized that my 3-yr-old standard poodle needed some finishing work. Although she had achieved her AKC Canine Good Citizens title, there were still a couple of issues that needed attention: mostly around greeting people with restraint, and controlling prey drive instincts when on leash. Travis introduced the prong collar and the e-collar, along with training for me on effective and consistent use. As a result, Annie is now reliable and much more able to control her impulses, even off leash! She passed her Therapy Dog evaluation, and we are able to confidently take her everywhere that's pet friendly with confidence. Additionally, I found Travis to be highly professional and a great communicator. Thank you, Travis!!

From the first home visit "meet and greet" to establish a baseline, through the personalized (hour plus every time) training sessions, and continuous follow up advice, we received high-quality, professional, and - most important - effective means to get ourselves and our dog better aligned. Make no mistake: "Thank Dog! Training" is not a quick-fix, single session solution. It absolutely requires considerable commitment and consistency of everyone in the immediate home of the dog. And that is not easy. But we and our dog are far healthier frames of mind and expectations now.

I started using Snugglemeisters Pet-Sitting Pros/Bohemian Catsody for catsitting almost a year and a half ago and have had nothing but a great experience. Before, I would board my two cats when I traveled, and the whole boarding experience completely stressed out both of them (and me). Since then, Diane has watched the girls at least half a dozen times, and I was impressed with how quickly they became comfortable around her, as they are usually shy around new people. They even come out to play with her when she visits! Diane is reliable, caring, and very attentive to the pets in her charge. After each visit, she sends me a text, sometimes with a video update, noting how the visit went, which I so appreciate because I have a tendency to obsess over how they are doing when I am not home. I love the online client portal, which allows for easy scheduling and lets me provide notes about trip plans, food and watering instructions, and the cats’ latest favorite hiding spots. I highly recommend Diane and Snugglemeisters for all your catsitting needs!

I highly recommend Terrie for any type of household needs you may have....cleaning, organizing, etc. I found her when searching for a professional to help me move out of an apartment. I am very busy running my own business and had very little time to clean and organize for my move to run smoothly. Terrie responded to my search promptly and professionally, and made a job happen that had looked impossible!! I had never hired anyone to help clean before. I guess I always felt I didn't have the budget for it....but in addition to her great work, Terrie's rates are very reasonable. She has been wonderful to work with!!!

Amazing is the only thing I can say about Bobbie and the result of her training. After her two week board and train, my 12 month old German Shepard is a new dog. Before her training he would rip my arm off every time he was on a leash and he would see a person or another dog. Yesterday I took him for a walk around the neighborhood without a leash. We passed two poodles, a boxer, a jogger, and a cat that ran right in front of us. He never left my side, not even once. He sat at the corner on command and would stay even when I walked off. Then he would come to me on command. The freedom of an off leash dog is amazing. I would recommend Bobbie, and her training, to anyone who truly wants to treat their dog like they are part of their family!

We are fellow rescuers and Sherry has been an angel for us. Because of her great services we are actually comfortable leaving our dogs and our fosters at home while we go out of town...we know Sherry knows how to handle every dog in every situation. She sends photos and updates via text and lets us know if any of dogs are under the weather. In fact, Sherry was kind enough to give my Golden, Alice, an extra walk and extra love because she seemed a little down. How amazing is that? Sherry is our guardian angel!

I was flying to Canada to visit my daughter and I was really nervous about leaving my 5year old chihuahua at the vet. She is tiny and not use to cages or seclusion. I started googling and I found Patter Paws. It was short notice, I was promised that my baby would be well taken care of and spoiled. Which she was lol. She was so busy playing with the dogs and family that when I went to pick her up, she took a while to notice me. She was excited to see me but did not do her desperate cry sound she makes when I pick her up from the vet. I will be using Patter Paws from now on and I highly recommend them.

Tatiana is wonderful! She truly has a passion for animals and has taken care of and loved on our fur babies many times. She's great with our two giant dogs (70 and 60 lbs) and our cat. My husband and I love that she has so much experience at the vet and we can always count on her professional knowledge of what's going on if we are noticing any certain symptoms our animals are experiencing. I would highly recommend her. She's responsible, understands animal behavior, and most importantly our animals love her!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
