Did a great job installing my garage door opener. Arrived on time, very professional and made sure everything was cleaned up afterwards. Was able to schedule the work within a couple of days of me contacting them. Very reasonable on the price. Would recommend......

Great experience, I have too large dogs and needed a way for the furry family members to go out through the garage to the backyard. Unfortunately the garage didn't have a door to the back yard. I would need a door and then a dog door installed in it. He was able to make the door look as though it had always been there. He even fixed the craftsman style door to look like it had been ordered specifically for the dog door. It was a great experience.

I hired Alex for 2 separate visits. The first was for a routine garage door maintenance, and the second was to replace the current garage door opener unit with a better unit. Alex did a great job. He was very informative and responsive throughout the process, and although I decided to upgrade my unit through him, he was not trying to upsell. Rather, I decided to use him based upon the quality of work and the reasonable prices he offered.

Very friendly & courteous guys. They finished an unfinished basement for us and it looks nice. There were just a few areas I had to touch up paint wise and one spot in the flooring in front of the door that leads to the garage. But the price was right and they worked quickly and had it finished well within the expected time frame.

I needed a new door opener installed on my door but I didn’t have any good service provider in mind. I requested a quote from Thumbtack and Tip Top garage doors called me a while later. They patiently listened to my specifications and advised me on buying the best type of opener for my door. They arrived as agreed, installed the opener and went ahead to lubricate the door. Thanks for a good job!

Casey does an excellent job. I couldn't open my garage door one morning due to broken springs; I called him around 6:50am and he came right away from across town and got it fixed. Keep up the great work.

Palmetto Painting and Home Improvement LLC was the number one pick for the job out of numerous inquiries due to the numerous repairs needed within the house. Their prices and commitment to giving us a great price that we could afford seemed as if it was just as important to them as it was to us. The crew was very professional and knowledgeable on every aspect of the house from garbage disposal repairs, door frame replacement, porch and deck repairs, pressure washing, and painting to very small repairs such as holes in walls and simple toilet repairs. The fact that no job was to big or small was an amazing plus that i loved about this crew. They were very punctual and wasted no time getting started or completing jobs. There is no doubt they have earned my respect and business from years to come. I have already bragged about their work and showed it off to numerous neighbors and friends because the work is just that damn good. You wont be disappointed. I would strongly recommend their service to any and everyone.

We've had great service from Casey and GarageWorks. We had a kind of unusual situation with the configuration of our garage door opener. Instead of installing it hanging from the ceiling as usual, he had to install an opener that was positioned on a wall - a side mount opener. We had a problem with the mechanism after a few months. I was afraid Casey would charge us for coming out to fix it because it had been a couple of months after installation. But he didn't charge us anything for the repairs. He said he'd always make things right and he did. We really appreciate his honesty and work ethic. Thanks!

Michael and his team were very professional. They did brick repair on my chimney painted the outside of the house as well as most of the inside of my house. He repaired a broken pocket door that I asked him to fix while he was there painting. He was very timely prompt and professional. He also had a good price compared to several quotes I had on the paint job. I would highly recommend Michael and M & M coatings

I had a garage door repaired and an opener installed. My door was hanging off the track and was pretty banged up. Ryan was able to get it back on track and did a great job on the repair and install. My door opens and closes smoothly now. Very good work.

My Garage door was bent, and all of the sudden quit working. I contacted Stephen the owner, and he said he could come take a look. Stephen arrived on time, and spent about ten minutes to determine what was wrong, and stated he could fix it right away. The price was outstanding, as well as his professionalism. I learned so many things about garage doors that day. I would highly recommend Rose Quality Garage Doors, Inc. for repairs, service, or installations. My garage door was working within the hour.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

The national average for garage door repair cost is between $80 and $110. Some of the factors that affect your garage door repair cost are the type of springs (most often torsion or extension), the size and weight of the door, and the door material. Many garage door pros will charge a service fee to visit your house and determine the problem. Often, the service fee includes a set amount of labor. One example of this is an $80 service fee that includes the first hour of work plus testing and inspecting your garage door and garage door opener, while another pro may charge $150 for the same standard service call.

Broken or jammed springs are a common problem. In one example, the starting price for spring repair was $99, while another pro’s cost started at $185. The $185 starting price included $40 for transportation costs, $60 for parts, and $85 per hour of labor. Professionals may charge extra for late-night garage door repair emergencies.

How much is it to replace a garage door panel?

Replacing a garage door panel can add significantly to the cost of a garage door repair. Panels run horizontally on sectional roll-up garage doors. They may be made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiberglass or steel. Garage door panels can become damaged from hail and other extreme weather, dents and dings, car accidents, and age. When deciding if you want to replace a garage door panel, it’s helpful to compare the potential repair cost to the cost of a new garage door. Panel replacement requires a pro with the proper tools as well as the new parts. With parts and labor you could be paying more than $500 for one new panel. In comparison, a new garage door may cost $800-$1,200 (on average) with installation. If there is a possibility your garage door was structurally compromised when the panel was damaged, have the pro assess whether it’s better to completely remove and replace the door, rails and framework to ensure your home’s safety. It may also be better to completely replace your door if it is severely rusted or dented; if the paint is peeling and fading; if the door model is outdated or you can’t find replacement panels; or if the panels or rails are structurally compromised.

How much should it cost to replace a garage door cable?

If your garage door is not opening or has become jammed, you may need to replace the garage door cables. Unless you have the proper tools and know-how, this is a job best left to a professional due to the weight of the garage door and the extreme tension of the springs. The cost of repair will vary depending on your location, the length of the cables you need, and the time it takes the pro to do the replacement.

From a big-box store, basic garage door cables can run between $8 and $20, depending on the product. Your pro may charge you a different cost if they provide the cables. Your cables may not need to be replaced if they have simply come off the track, but broken cables will need to be completely removed and replaced. In either instance, the pros will need to secure or take down the door; unwind the springs; reset or replace the rollers, cables, and drums; and then wind the springs once more. For example, a pro could reset cables that have come off the track for $129.99. The average national cost for a garage door repair specialist is $80 - $110 per hour and the typical cost to replace a broken garage door cable is anywhere from $130 to $200.

How much does it cost to get a new garage door?

A new garage door can add serious curb appeal, not to mention myriad home safety benefits. The cost of a new garage door will vary based on the type of garage door you want and the materials it will be made of. You can purchase a new garage door and have the pros install it for you, but proceed with caution as many installers won’t guarantee their labor if you didn’t purchase the garage door through their company. A new door (without installation) may cost anywhere from $200 to $4,000 or more, depending on size, brand and materials. Here are some examples of average new garage door costs, including installation:

          • Raised-panel, insulated,16x7 garage door: $1,100
            • Without insulation: about $900
